RESIDENT C

ECILY TIPPERY • OCTOBER2012 but also how runs have to be certifi ed and

sanctioned. The course this year was

certifi ed and after it becomes sanctioned,

Jamie is thinking this will be an event that

puts Brentwood on the map and really

help our cities realize the impact that we

as Realtors have. It takes one step to go

on a journey and succeed; we have taken

the second step. It gets easier as we move

forward.

We Realtors do a great deal for our

community and seldom get the recognition

we deserve.

Our newly

formed

Public Affairs

committee is

asking for an

estimate of how

many of you

do some sort

of community

service. So get

that into Scott

MacIntyre or

John Bedford,

or me, so that

we can start

to let our community know how we help in

our community. There was a survey sent

out that each Broker received, if they did

not talk with you, then let them know what

you are doing and how much time you are

spending.

It is also election time; one way to make

an impact is to make sure your clients

are registered to vote. We have voting

pamphlets at the Association and you can

get them to take to your offi ce. It has also

been suggested that as part of your buyer/

seller post closing efforts, to send a voter

registration change form to your clients.

There are, I am sure, many ways to be

involved. Let us know what you are doing

so we can publicize the value of Realtors in

our community.

I am truly amazed at how our Realtor

Community comes together… First of all,

huge kudo’s to our Foundation, headed

by Cathleen Griebling. Members include

Maggie Hurtado, Dan Barnes, Curtis

Holzer, Patti Gonsalves-Shaner, Jill

Fister and Wendy Shearer. The Delta

Realtors Community Service Foundation

(DRCSF) committee is out there working

to increase our community presence as

well as raise funds for scholarships for

local students. This Foundation has a

Board of Directors made of up Realtors

and Affi liate Members

of our Association.

The Delta Harvest

Run, headed by

Wendy Shearer, was

a huge success and

I was told it had

improved from the

year before. Still

learning and getting

better, that is what

we Realtors are all

about.

I had the privilege

to “volunteer” at

the Run. I helped a bit at the fi rst aid

tent as well as the Family Fun Run. I

think most of your Board of Directors

also participated. I saw families and

almost “professional” runners on hand.

I was truly impressed when I saw Gene

Clare pass the fi nish line as well as

Cathie Marples who won an award;

I think she walked the 5K distance.

Jody Marfi a and Leia Hartje fi nished

the half marathon, wow!!! I know that

Ramesh Suman, Cynthia Alfred and

Scott MacIntyre were out on the course

keeping runners on track. If there were

others, let me know. I want to thank

Jamie Gonzalez for being a valued

member of the team. He educated me

a bit about body building, of course,

Route Flaggers gearing up before dispensing to their assigned position on the route

deltaharvestrunMany thanks to all those who got up very early in the

morning to volunteer for the 2012 Delta Harvest Run;

making it anothersuccessful event for DRCSF. Funds

raised help to support local food banksand local High

schoolscholarships.

This year the Delta Harvest Run Committee

successfully certifi ed the course. The new fast &

fl at course united Brentwood, Oakley, and the East

Bay Regional Parks using the Marsh Creek Trail.

Mayor Bob Taylor of Brentwood sounded off the gun

for the ½ Marathon, and Mayor Kevin Romnick of

Oakley sent the 5K & 10K runners off. The races all

started and fi nished at the 50 yard line at Liberty High

School Sports Field, traveling down Garin Parkway,

to Sunset Blvd where the runners enteredthe Marsh

Creek Trail. The ½ Marathon runners ran the trail into

Oakley just about out to Big Break and then made

the trip back to the school. Yes that’s 13.1 miles in

LayMan’s Terms!

KooDoo’s to Curtis Holtzer of Farmers Insurance

who was in charge of laying out the route for safety

concerns to keep the runners safe. This was an

enormous undertaking not to mention his crew

started 2 hours before everyone else! Now that’s

early!!!

The DHR Committee has already begun planning

the 2013 event. We look forward to everyone’s

participation whether it be running, walking or coming

out to help with the event. Remember this is your

Realtor Association putting on events showing the

community at large the works we do to give back to

the neighborhoods we work in.

Again thanks to everyone for all your support and we

look forward to successful events for years to come.
