Every production plant uses clamping elements, jigs, fixtures, reference pallet systems and many other facilities to be able to clamp the range of workpieces machined efficiently and econo-mically.

The Delphin modular zero-point clamping system allows the machine table to be equipped individually with position-deter-mining chucks.

It thus allows the complete work area to be used and offers substantial advantages in relation to reducing setting times and enhanced flexibility thanks to substitution of preset workpieces.

Consequently, it opens up entirely new options for manual and automated workpiece change.

Function of the clamping spigotscentring free of play

One special feature in relation to modular equipping of the machine tables is the option for arrangement and number of chucks. Regardless of the requirements of the application, you determine the quantity and the particular centre distance with which you wish to equip the machine table. Our recommendation: use at least 4 chucks per workpiece. You may need to work with pallets.

The conical clamping spigots are mounted directly in the device or workpiece. Centring of the conical face of the centring and compensating clamping spigots free of play achieves maximum accuracy.

The centre distance is the centre-to-centre distance between the relevant chucks. The recommended centre distance is the default centre distance of 250 mm or 200 mm (with HCP also 100 mm are possible).

Turrets without clamping spigots in the base remain permanently on the machine table. Turrets with clamping spigots in the base can be fitted and removed quickly on Delphin baseplates. This means that the machine table is also available for jigs and fixtures.Turrets are available customised. Material GG25 unless otherwise specified by customer.

How to read the diagram:A chuck can raise a weight of 400 kg at an hydraulic pressure of 35 bar. With 4 chucks, this results in a total workpiece weight of 1600 kg.

One major advantage of using hydraulic systems instead of pneumatic systems is controlled lowering of the workpieces during the clamping operation. The workpiece is lowered slowly onto the Z-supports, consequently protec-ting them.The Z-supports are cleaned during this clamping operation on the HHP chuck.This increases accuracy over the years and thus prolongs the service life of the Delphin chucks.

Advantages of pneumatic systemApplication for vertical installation

In the case of vertical installation, there is no lifting func-tion. For example, the pneumatic chucks (PHP, PSP) are better-suited on turrets. Gentle clamping is not advisable vertically and the piping is simpler.

OEM Automation with Delphin

Automation with DelphinAutomation demands special preconditions in a clamping system, and these are already met by the Delphin versions.

Actuation is either pneumatic or hydraulic, depending on Delphin clamping system.The control signals can be sent by the machine/by the robot to the corresponding machine valves. These valves then control the media lines inside the machine.

There is also the option of sending the machine/robot signals directly to the Delphin chucks via the hydraulic unit. However, this requires permanently coupling the media hoses to the connection manifold.

Please use our standard automation pallets (see automation pallets, page 43).

The modular Delphin BIG zero-point clamping system allows the machine table to be equipped with position-determining chucks.

In the case of non-symmetrical workpieces, it is frequent-ly the case that they cannot be lifted straight. They are suspended at an angle on the frame. When clamping on conventional chucks, this inclined position poses major problems.This is not the case on Delphin BIG. As shown by the illus-tration, the workpiece can still be clamped with no major problems even with major inclination.

The Z-supports of Delphin BIG clamping bushings and rings are protected by an all-round ring: the Z-supports remain protected if the workpiece is placed on the floor.

If the workpiece moves into the chucks, the edge of the bushing strikes the cone of the chuck. These minor im-pacts may leave notches on the clamping bushing. There is a recess at the end of the cone (chuck) in order to prevent inaccuracies of the system, consequently ensu-ring constant accuracy.
