IES (Indian Engineering Services)• IES officer is a Class - I Central Government

employee equivalent to an IAS officer.

• IES is appointed by President of India after securing

a rank in Engineering Services Examination (ESE)

conducted by UPSC, which consists of 3 stages viz.

PRE, MAINS and Personality Test.

• Some of the central departments through ESE are

Indian Railways, MES, CPWD, CWC, BRO etc.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in

Engineering)GATE is an all – India Online examination administered &

conducted by IISc Bangalore & 7 IITs on behalf of MHRD,

Govt. of India. Getting a good GATE score is mandatory

for:

• Jobs in PSUs such as NHPC, ONGC, HPCL, IOCL,

EIL, RITES, which offer handsome salary packages

of 12 – 15 LPA.

• Scholarships in Masters/PhD of Rs. 12,400/

Rs. 28,000 p.m. + book allowance of Rs. 5000 p.a.

• Admission in prestigious IITs, NITs and some

universities of Singapore and Germany.

• Direct recruitment as SDE in some states.

• Cracking interviews of MNCs (L&T, PunjLyod, SPCL,

Bechtel etc.)

SDE/JE (Sub Divisional Engineer /

Junior Engineer)• SDE (Class I) officer holds the rank of an Assistant

Engineer.

• JE holds the rank of an Overseer.

• State commissions recruit SDE and JE in

engineering departments of the state government.
