Delhi University North Campus and South Campus The University of Delhi , also known as DU and Delhi University is a public university, wholly funded by The Government of India. It was first established in the year 1922. At that time it had only three colleges and students as few as 750. But today, in addition to a sprawling green campus that is spread across a massive area of 69 acres, it has 16 faculties, 86 academic departments, 77 colleges and 5 other recognized institutes spread all over the city of Delhi. Due to the massive size of the University, it was soon classified into two campuses – the North Campus in the Kamla Nagar area and the South Campus in the Dhaula Kuan area. Both campuses offer graduate as well as post graduate courses of study in various fields ranging from business studies to science to fine arts. The South Campus is famous for the Bio Technology center and the Plant Molecular Biology department. The North Campus is known for its Arts and Law colleges. Both campuses also boast of research institutes that have contributed a lot over the years to their respective fields of study. Competition for admission into the colleges on both campuses is very fierce. The toughest competition is perhaps seen by the Arts and Commerce colleges in the North Campus that offer admissions purely on merit basis. Millions of students from across the country apply for a handful seats. Students wait with impatiently for the results to be declared every year and eve for the waiting lists that are released after the merit lists. The mode of study in the colleges of the University is very structured and special attention is paid towards developing all the skills of the students.
