Structure
• DSSDI Project
• DSSDI Metadata
• Participation of DSSDI in India Geo Portal
• OGC Compliant Metadata
What is NSDI?
• The NSDI is an overarching
framework for the existing
agencies with the authority to
mandate constituent
agencies to commit their
data sets and generate new
data on the basis of user
needs
To provide a “ single window ” for spatial data access through digital technologies Ensure standardisation of data-sets Avoid duplication of data-sets Provide for inter-agency co-operation
The NSDI Vision
National infrastructure for the availability of and access to organised spatial data
Use of the infrastructure at Community, Local, State, Regional and National levels for sustained economic growth
NSDI Objectives
Develop and maintain standard digital collection of data
Develop common solutions for Discovery, Access and Use of spatial data in response to the needs of diverse user groups
Increase the awareness & understanding of the vision, concepts and benefits of the NSDI

Metadata Updation-Cases(1) Consider a geographic data provider generating vector
mapping data for three Administrative areas (A, B and C).
Initially the vector mapping was generated using a common series of paper maps, which were processed in the same way into a vector format.
The bulk of the metadata for this initial data could be carried at a single level, (Dataset series).
This metadata would describe the quality, citation, source, processing, of the data for the three administrative areas.
So, the metadata is exclusively at Dataset Series level.

Metadata Revision-Cases
(2) Alternate vector mapping of Administrative area A (South West District) becomes available.
The metadata would then be extended for Administrative area A, to describe the new quality date values.
These values would supersede those given for the Dataset series, but only for Administrative area A.
The metadata for B and C would remain unchanged. This new metadata would be recorded at Dataset level.

(3) Eventually further data becomes available for Administrative area A (South West District), with a complete re-survey of The road network.
Again this implies new metadata for the affected feature types. This metadata would be carried at Feature type level for Administrative area A. All other metadata relating to other feature types remains unaffected.
Only the Metadata for roads in Administrative area A is modified. This road metadata is recorded at Feature type level.
