Grade III - V Dear Parents and students, January is the first month of the year which means that it is the year’s doorway,

an entrance into a bright new beginning! It’s also a great time to take new

resolutions in life. January is a great time to reflect on the areas in our life where

we felt successful during the past year. It is also a time to consider arenas where

we can improve. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to

the New Year 2014.

Academics and Assessment Classes were held and the course for all subjects is nearly complete. FAs and SAs were conducted as scheduled:

R-E-A-D Books The following READ books were distributed for the month of January 2014 Gr3- Tumku is Scared Gr4- The Jungle Book- Mowgli and the Bear Gr5- Pirates Don't Wear Pink Sunglasses WEBZINE TOPICS Webzine topics for the month of January 2014 Grade- III Write on the ‘Importance of air and water’. Grade- IV Water is one of nature’s most important gifts to mankind. Comment. Grade- V ‘Water conservation around your house’. How could you make this possible?

ASSEMBLIES

Weekly Assembly 7 - 1- 14 Grade 5 A Girls presented a Class Assembly on the theme, ‘Importance of Healthy Eating’. The teacher in charge was Ms. Beena Prakash. Students presented the ‘Thought for the Day’, World News, Sports News and School News with emphasis on healthy food. The Islamic message from Ariba was apt for the occasion. They presented a skit based on the topic and also rendered a poem by Roald Dahl in the form of a group recitation. Certificates for Talent Tap were given to the deserving students.

Class Assembly 14 - 1- 14 Grade 3 I students presented a Class Assembly on the theme ‘Explorers of the World’. The teacher in charge was Ms. Supriya. The Islamic message and Arabic conversation was apt for the occasion. They presented a wonderful skit based on the topic. Certificates for Wiz Kid were given to the deserving students of Grade III.

Class Assembly 15 - 1- 14 Grade 4 I students presented a Class Assembly on the theme ‘Tips to Cleanliness’. The teacher in charge was Ms. Reagul. Students presented the ‘Thought for the Day’, World News, Sports News and School News with emphasis on cleanliness.. They presented a skit based on the topic and also rendered a song. The Islamic message was from Hiba of 4 I and Saran Shyam was on the keyboard for the song.

Class Assembly 21 - 1- 14

An Assembly on the topic ‘The Amazing World of Birds and Animals’ was conducted by the grades 4 H & 4 E. The teachers in charge were Ms. Nancy and Ms. Shaista. The students presented a wonderful skit which was entertaining and colorful and with a message to save birds and animals.

Class Assembly 22 - 1- 14

An Assembly on the topic ‘Republic Day of India’ was presented by the students of grade 5E. The teacher in charge was Ms. Kimmi. The students presented a wonderful assembly which was informative and colorful. The Republic day fervor was instilled by means of a patriotic song and classical dance.

Class Assembly 28 - 1- 14 An Assembly on the topic ‘My Planet my Responsibility’ was presented by the students of grade 3 D & 3 J. The students presented a wonderful assembly which was informative and inspiring. They conveyed the message of preserving the environment and keeping the earth clean.

Class Assembly 29 - 1- 14

An Assembly on the topic ‘Hindi – Hamara Rashtra Bhasha’ was done by the students of grade 5B. The students presented a wonderful assembly which infused a feeling of patriotism among the students.

Special Events Science Quiz – Grades III, IV and V Venue: Sundeep Hall and Junior Library. • The participants were the high scorers of the Preliminary Round conducted in the month of April which was a written round with 100% participation of all the students. • The competition was conducted house wise and the highest scorers of each house from each section were shortlisted. • There were 3 Thematic Visual Rounds and the last round was the Rapid Fire Round

Math Quiz – Grade V • The participants were the high scorers of the Math Talent Search conducted in the First Term which was a written round with 100% participation of all the students. • The competition was conducted section wise where the highest scorers from each section were shortlisted. • There were 3 Visual Rounds and the last round was the Rapid Fire Round

The winners of the quiz were students of 5J (Agnij, Manas and Pritesh) The first runners were Students of grade 5 I and second runners were Students of grade 5 C . Islamic Studies Elocution Competition The Annual Elocution Competition of Grade 4 was conducted in the Junior Library on the 15th of January 2014 organized by Ms. Samira .The judges for the same were Mr. Ashkar and Ms. Zainab. There were 8 finalists selected from 20 participants. They were given three different topics on Islamic morals and manners. Grade 4 students were the audience.

Qirat Competition The Annual Qirat Competition of Grades 3-5 was conducted in the Junior Library on the 16th of January 2014 organized by Ms. Samira .The judges for the same were Mr. Saquib and Ms. Noora.

There were 12 finalists selected from 70 participants. Grade 4 students were the audience.

Republic Day Celebrations The 65 Republic Day was celebrated at DPS Dubai with the hoisting of the Indian tricolor, rendition of National Anthem by the Choir and the march past by the students. Republic Day is celebrated every year on 26 January to commemorate the date and moment when the Constitution of India came into effect.

Yardstick activities Yardstick activities were conducted in all the classes for Science and Mathematics.

Yardstick activity- Mathematics – Forming solid shapes from Nets (Grade 5)
