your Advantage:Transfer Opportunities
Dual Admission
The College offers an array of transfer agreements with four-year schools.
One of these agreements is Dual Admission, which eases the admission
process to the partner college or university and can also guarantee
admission to a particular bachelor’s degree (if specified). This agreement
prepares students who complete a specific associate degree to transfer
their credits into a parallel bachelor’s degree program at the partner
college or university. Most Dual Admission agreements offer merit-based
scholarships and an application fee waiver, so students participating
in these agreements save money as well. Students must complete an
Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.), Associate in
Science (A.S.), or Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree pursuant
to the articulation specifications.

Meet with your advisors to check in at least once a semester. Do not be afraid to ask questions
about how credits transfer. Also if you have the ability, stay at Delaware County Community
College and earn your associate degree. It looks great on a transcript as well as a resume.
ELIZABETH BETANCOURT ’15
Administration of Justice Major, Transferred to West Chester University
Elizabeth Betancourt, 34, of Clifton Heights,
enrolled at Delaware County Community College
as a nontraditional age student, and the College
helped her transition back into an academic setting.
While a student, she was recognized by the Phi Theta
Kappa honor society of two-year colleges and the
Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges for
academic achievement and community volunteerism.
She earned a 3.92 GPA, majored in Administration
of Justice and graduated with an Associate in
Applied Science degree from the College in May.
She transferred to West Chester University in
September to study Criminal Justice. Her long-term
goal is to earn a master’s degree and become a
juvenile probation officer.
While at the College, Betancourt served as vice
president of scholarship for the Alpha Tau Epsilon
chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, which involved teaching
and guiding fellow students through the often
challenging task of applying for scholarships and
attaining their academic goals.

Delaware County Community College is committed to student
success. That’s why the College offers a variety of support services
to help you meet your educational goals, including:
After finding out about my
veteran status, all of my professors
here have been extremely
supportive. They’ve held me to

Veteran Services
Another one of the many support services the College provides
is assistance for veterans. This includes preferential registration,
which allows veteran students to register for courses on the two
business days before formal registration opens for fall and spring
courses. This preferential scheduling is in compliance with Act 46
of 2014, which requires public institutions of higher education in
Pennsylvania to provide veteran students, as defined in the Act,
with preference in course scheduling. Course scheduling preference
means that veteran students are able to start registering for courses
sooner than students with the same class standing.
Veterans also have access to the new Veteran Center, which is
located on the Marple Campus. The Center provides computers
as well as space for studying and socializing.

your Advantage: Internships
Through a co-op or internship, Delaware County Community
College students have the opportunity to combine classroom theory
with practical, real-world employment experience in order to gain
exposure and prepare for their chosen career path. A co-op, which is
short for cooperative education, is a full-time learning experience in
which the student is employed by a company on a full-time basis for
a period of time. An internship is a part-time, paid or unpaid, learning
experience in which the student is supervised and guided in several
facets of the work environment.
There are a variety of companies and organizations looking for
interns, and the Student Employment and Co-Op Services Center
helps to place students in an internship. Students will earn college
credits each semester in which they complete an internship and pay
for these credits as they would a class. Internships range from one to
three credits. Many students complete two internship experiences
while at the College, earning as many as six credits. The number of
credits earned is determined by the number of hours worked.
Completing a co-op or internship will allow you to:
• Gain professional experience
• Decide if a certain career field is the right fit
• Obtain firsthand information about your career options
• Apply what you have learned in the classroom to real work experiences
• Make employment contacts
• Earn college credit
• Earn a paycheck (for some positions)
