2. Monitor Milking Interval•Checkmilkingqueueforcowsthatare

notmilking2xper24hours.•Checknumberofmilkingsforthe

differentstagesinthelactation.•Fetchcowsformilkingifnecessary.•Lookattheredcowsandcombineinfo

withtheexpectedyield.

3. Check Quarters•Alwaysusedisposablegloves.•Neverstripmilkontothefloor.•Examinethemilkforflocculation,

colourchangesorotherinconsistenciesaccordingtoalarmsincowmonitor.

•AlwayschangedivertmilksettingsinDelProbeforethetreatmentofthecow.

•Alwayskeepabnormalmilkseparate.

4. Ensure Effective Teat Preparation•Checkcleaningofteatprepcupatleast

1xperday.•Useapprovedpre-milkingteat

disinfectantswhereallowedforcowswithhighconductivityorOCC.

•Bearinmindthatteatprepisnotonlycleaning,butalsostimulatingthemilkletdown.

•Morestimulationmostlymeanshighermilkflow/minute.

5. Check Milking Vacuum •Checkthemilkingvacuumatleastonce

perday.•Vacuumlevel,pulsationrateand

pulsationratioshouldbeinaccordancewithDeLaval.recommendations.

Note: low vacuum slows down milking time, prolongs the teat end pressure and increases the risk of udder health problems.

6. Check Milking Attachment•Keepthecameraclean.•Alwayscheckindividualcows’VMSteat

positionsifmilkoutisincomplete.•Check/adaptteatpreptimeifmilkflowis

lowforindividualcow.•Checklinersandshortmilktubeforair

leakage.•Checkarmpositioning.•Checkquartersettingfortilt.•Checkcleaninginside/outsideofteat

cups.

7. Avoid Over or Under-milking •Checkthresholdfortakeoffvs.

emptyingquarter.•Over-milkingcandamageteatends.•Checksettingsforre-attach(#trials)

andafterkick-offandasktechniciantochangeifnecessary.

8. Check VMS Settings•Checkmangerposition.•Checkfunctioningoftherearplate

sensor.•Checkfloorcleaningandsettings.•Checkfeedingdispensingrateandstop

feedingattakeoff.•Checksettingonconcentratefeedingin

VMSandOPF.

9. Prevent Post-Milking Infection•Alwaysuseanapprovedpost-milking

disinfectant.•Thisisthemosteffectivewaytoprevent

thespreadofmastitis.•Keepthecowsstandingaftermilkingby

sendingthemtothefeedingarea.

10. Keep Milking System Sterile•Changemilkfilterevery8hours.•Adaptcleaningsettingstolocal

conditionsafterdivertingmilk.•Runacompletecleaningcycleevery8

hours.•Useapproveddetergents,following

dosing,routineandtemperatureinstructionsonthelabel.

•Disinfectthemilkingsystemwhenrequiredusingapprovedsanitizers,followinglabelinstructions.

•CheckcleaningalarmsinDelPro1xperday.

11. Cool Milk Promptly•Alwayschecktemperaturestoensure

correctcoolingisreachedduringmilkingandaftertankcleaning.

•CheckcoolingalarmsinDelPro1xperday.

•Makesuretoalwaysfollowdairy-specificrecommendationsforcoolingtemperatures.

•Cleanmilkcoolingandmilkstoragetanksimmediatelyafteremptying,usingapproveddetergents.

12. Monitor Milking/Feeding Results•ReviewDelProlists/infoonmilkquality

andmilkcompositionregularly.•Ifavailable,crosscheckwithdatafrom

CMT,DCC/OCC,HN,etconaregularbasis.

•Regularpreventativemaintenanceincludingreplacementofliners,tubesandotherparts,accordingtoDeLavalrecommendations,isthebestwaytoensureawellfunctioningmilkingsystem.

•Takecareofroughagefeedavailabilitymix24hours/7dayaweekforallcows.

•Cleancubiclesmin.2xperday.•Adjustbarnventilationasneeded.
