Motorcycle SafetyCourse Information

The Motorcycle Basic Rider course is for both the inexperienced rider or for a rider needing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation certification and teaches the basic techniques of safely riding a motorcycle. The course meets S.C. law for an insurance discount so please contact your insurance company to verify your eligibility. Motorcycles are provided; use of personal motorcycle is optional. Students must pass both a written and riding assessment to receive the Motorcycle Safety Foundation card. Prerequisite: Basic Rider enrollees must be eligible for a driver’s license and able to ride a bicycle. Books included.

The Motorcycle Experienced Rider course is a skills tune-up for the experienced rider and a refresher for licensed operators or for those riding with a passenger. Both the rider and the passenger must be registered as students (course fee is for rider only). This course meets S.C. law for an insurance discount so contact your insurance carrier for eligibility. Students must pass both a written and riding assessment. Students must provide a street-legal, insured and fully registered motorcycle; proof of ownership is required. Prerequisites: Students must have either an M class motorcycle license, motorcycle license endorsement or a motorcycle learner’s permit.

The Motorcycle License Waiver course is for individuals with a S.C. Motorcycle Learner’s Permit who successfully complete the Basic Rider (BRC) or Experienced Rider (BRC2) course. Participants successfully completing this test within 14 days of the completed BRC or BRC2 course earn a SC DMV Motorcycle License Waiver to be presented to their local DMV to receive a license. Testing time slots will be pre-scheduled upon the conclusion of the previous BRC or BRC2 course and students must be pre-enrolled for the test on one of the two following Saturdays.
