We demand that you immediately remove the offending comments and related video, and that you post a full apology and retraction within five days. Concerned Chicken Farmers of Canada (CCFC) is a national, not-for-profit advocacy organization representing more than 1,000 individuals and businesses operating in the Canadian chicken industry. The chicken industry contributes approximately $9.5 billion to the Canadian economy including wages and production. Millions of Canadians enjoy chicken in a variety of forms all the time, including grilled chicken breasts (either alone or on top of salads), whole roasted chickens, cut up chicken pieces (including in many ethnic “stir-fry” type dishes, and chicken wings (both fried and baked). It is critical that the reputation of chicken as a healthy, nutritious, and delicious food is never compromised. Your disparaging use of the term chicken is an insult to the entire chicken farming industry. The insult perpetuates a myth about chickens and reinforces a damaging but unfounded perception among the Canadian population. Through our ongoing “Love Chicken Campaign,” t he CCFC works tirelessly to put an end to this myth, and many other anti-chicken myths. It is our responsibility to protect the reputation of chicken in order to make sure our sustainable industry continues to grow. The economic crisis has negatively impacted our industry, and we hope you understand the addition harm your actions may have caused. Failure to act on your part will result in legal proceedings being launched against you and your collaborators. Please govern yourself accordingly. Sincerely, Burton W. Smith President
