tins Welcome to Déda’s new programme for

Summer 2012, packed with events andclasses to keep you dancing through the year.

Despite its size, Déda has always been anorganisation with a wide-reaching influence, both within the city and regionally. Alongside ourDance Development work throughout Derbyshireand our involvement with celebrationssurrounding the London 2012 Torch Relay (29 June), we’ve been working for the last year ona huge project funded by Legacy Trust UK, GamesTime, which is part of London Festival 2012.

Following an eye-popping debut in front of10,000 people on the Skegness sea-front in Julylast year, Games Time comes to Loughboroughand Northampton in June and July, before closingthe Cultural Olympiad in the East Midlands asthe headline act at this year’s Derby Festé.

Onto the season at Déda. If you’re looking for a more enjoyable way to stay in shape, Déda’searly evening classes – including Dance YourselfFit, Freestyle Tap and Zumba – offer a range ofenergetic post-work experiences.

Key performances in the Déda Theatre includethe return of Mark Bruce Company. Made inHeaven continues to develop the rich visual andtheatrical world of past productions – not to be missed!

We’re also delighted to be one of the partnervenues in the Jump In festival, bringinginternational children’s theatre and dance tovenues across the East Midlands this summer.Performances include Catherine Wheels atDéda and award-winning Spanish theatrecompany Aracaladanza at Derby Theatre.

We’ve been touched and amazed by thesupport that we’ve had since the city councilannounced its proposed budget cuts. Manywrote to your MPs or signed our petitions – oreven took part in a Flash Mob outside a councilmeeting in November! Whatever you did, thankyou – Derby City Council has frozen cuts for ayear to allow for a Leisure & Culture review totake place so the challenges are not over.

Keep an eye on deda.uk.com, or get in touch viaFacebook or Twitter to ‘Keep Derby Dancing’.

PS: Big Dance 2012 is happening between 18 May and 9 September. Visit www.bigdance2012.com and look out for special events across the region.
