Finally! I can’t believe this has been put off for so long! Let me tell you guys the entire long, fantastic story why this hasn’t been started until now. Last year, I had some “exciting news”. So exciting, in fact, that I waited three days before I told. This news was about the new show MTI was putting on, Footloose. Alas, apparently my news wasn’t as good as JANESSA’S (of course). Audition Tips Tips for the needy actor.

What to Wear For some people (including myself) this is a very important topic. Sydney’s and my singing teacher, aka Ms. Ferris, aka Ms. Wheelie, a VERY reliable source, told us that she doesn’t know why but directors like to have girls look like girls, so wear a skirt. Katy Porter said that if you don’t know what to wear, show up in black, and if you don’t have black, wear red. I’ve also read from professional actors that it’s good to wear the same thing to callbacks that you wore to your audition.

When to Arrive Ms. Ferris says she always arrives at least 40 minutes early to a professional audition to calm her nerves, and brings a book or a crossword puzzle or meditates. She only eats two hours before her audition, and she COMPLETELY stays away from dairy products.

What to Expect When you show up, you sign in at a desk and turn in your resume and headshots. Then you sit down until you are called. When it’s your turn, you walk into a pitch-black room with only a casting director and a pianist, and tell the pianist what bars you’ll be singing. Then you stand in the middle of a single spotlight and do your thing.

Etiquette Make sure you’re nice to EVERYBODY, because sometimes the director calls the backstage people and asks them who they liked the best. When you talk to the pianist, tell him your name, what songs and which bars you’ll be singing (which should be specially marked in the sheet music), and give him a tempo. If he plays the song too fast, say “I’m sorry. I must have made a mistake.” Then tell him the tempo again.

Dance Lessons?!

One thing I really, really, really want to take is dance lessons! I would totally be a triple threat like Sydney if I just knew how to dance! So I’ve been looking for dance places because it would be super fun if we all took some together and I found this really awesome one that incorporates musical theater in it but it’s over $300! That one’s called Broadway in May // Broadway Today A Musical Theatre Performance Workshop by the

Butler Community School, by the way. But looking at other programs (including A.C.T. dance lessons that can’t work because of Saturday rehearsals), $300 seems to be the norm. Right now, that’s the only one I found

that works for our age group and I actually like. I know there are a LOT cheaper ones at Westlake, though, because I went there a few times before. There’s also Dance Theatre International’s Open Program - All Styles, which I just found from looking through my old emails. If we take dance, we should probably take jazz and tap, and DTI has both. Jazz is on Friday and tap is on Sunday, so we could do both at the same time! I just can’t find the price.

Headshots Not as hard as you think!

Gina and Jena, I don’t know if you have any plans for this, but I’m going to get my headshots taken from my mom’s friend sometime soon because I just got my braces off, and Syd, you can just use the ones your uncle did. Ms. Ferris said that she just went to one of those photo stores at the mall and asked them to take some of her head, basically. They need to be in color and look like the “real” you, or how you look in everyday life. Prints need to be 8”x10”. Audition News: New Disney Channel Series Pilot “Madison High” Seeking Triple Threat Talent

“Disney Channel is in pre-production on a brand new single-camera comedy series pilot currently titled ‘Madison High’. The show’s casting directors are holding a national talent search for ‘triple threat’ performers. A ‘Triple Threat’ performer is a performer who can act, sing, and dance. ‘Triple Threat’ performers are multi-talented and well rounded performers who have generally had years of education and performing experience in acting, dancing, and singing.

The series pilot will be directed by the Directors Guild of America Award winning Paul Hoen.

Hoen is no stranger to directing Disney Channel productions, and has directed the Disney Channel Original Movies and series ‘The Luck of the Irish,’ ‘Tru Confessions,’ ‘You Wish!,’ ‘Even Stevens,’ ‘Eddie’s Million Dollar Cook-Off,’ ‘Read It and Weep,’ ‘Jump In!,’ ‘The Cheetah Girls: One World,’ ‘Dadnapped,’ ‘Jonas,’ and ‘Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.’

Lester Lewis, who served as executive producer on the Disney Channel music-driven single-camera comedy, ‘Jonas L.A,’ is writing ‘Madison High’, and executive producing with Paul Hoen.

‘Madison High’ will follow the ‘High School Musical’ franchise style with all-original music. The show will commission new songs while also featuring artists from Disney’s music label. The preliminary roles being cast as stars of the series consist of male and female kids and young teens from 11 through 16 years of age. There are currently 5 series regulars being cast.

The series is under Screen Actors Guild contract and shooting is set to begin late January, 2011 in Los Angeles.”

Audition News: Disney Live-Action Series Pilot ‘Austin & Ally’ Holding Auditions for Lead Roles

“It’s a Laugh Productions is currently in pre-production on a brand new teen sitcom pilot for Disney Channel titled ‘Austin & Ally’. The show centers around two young teens with very different personalities who both have musical ambitions, and end up with a unique relationship between them.

The two lead actors being cast are a male of any ethnicity, early teens, who is a very good singer – and an attractive female of any ethnicity, early teens, who can preferably sing and play the piano. And because this is a sitcom, both actors should also have very strong comedy skills. Other series regular roles to be cast are the best friends of both Austin and Ally.

The show will be a filmized videotape multi-camera live-action teen sitcom. Filmizing is a process that makes video productions seem to have been shot on film. Several Disney Channel and Disney XD sitcoms are shot using filmized videotape, including ‘Sonny with a Chance’, ‘Shake It Up’, ‘Good Luck Charlie’, and the

upcoming ‘Wasabi Warriors’ among others.

Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert will produce and write the pilot. They both have collaborated as writers/producers of the Disney Channel sitcoms ‘Sonny with a Chance’ and ‘Jonas’. Kopelow and Seifert have also just signed a deal with Disney for their screenplay ‘The Most Annoying Man in the World’, which will be produced by Andy Fickman’s Oops Doughnuts Productions.

Shooting on ‘Austin & Ally’ begins mid-February, 2011. The series is under AFTRA contract and will be shot in Los Angeles at Hollywood Center Studios. This casting call has gone out nationally, and also to Vancouver and Toronto. Actors who are interested in working on the show should have their agents or managers submit them for this project. Actors who do not have an agent should follow the strict submission protocol listed at this site: http://www.filmtelevisionauditions.com/2010/12/disney-live-action-series-pilot-austin.html”

Gina, you should audition for this one because you can sing and play the piano! I would have if I was chorus this year because then I could

have dropped out of my commitment and done this instead.

Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus both rose to fame on It’s a Laugh Productions shows
