Arcade UCC has designated the 4th Sunday of every month to accept donations for the PAC Food Pantry. Please bring in any non-perishable food items and place them in the basket in the narthex. Thank you! ************************************

Search Committee Updates Ryan Bechdel, for the Search Committee, announced on Sunday, Nov. 17, that the church profile is now online and they can start accepting resumes from prospective pastors. It is a living document, which means they are still making some changes. There is a copy in the library that anyone may look at, but they ask that no one make copies of it at this time. Rev. Gary Ferner, Associate Conference Minister for Search and Call, stated that our church profile was one of the best he had seen. This is a true testament to the hard work the committee has done to complete this profile!

Cantata Performance – “A Christmas Offering”

Pioneer Community Chorus and Arcade United Church of Christ, will present their Cantata performance, “A Christmas Offering,” on Sunday, December 15 at 3 pm. It will be held at Arcade United Church of Christ, Congregational, 297 Main Street, Arcade 14009. The performance will include live local musicians from throughout the Arcade area. Everyone is a volunteer and amateur who just loves music! A small pit orchestra, also from the local area, will accompany them. This is a wonderful community event! Cookie reception to follow the performance. Admission is free. Please join us for this joyous holiday performance!

Change in Service Time Begins

January 5,2020 Council met with Pastor Shawn Hannon and he has agreed to provide us with service two Sundays a month and emergency pastor care. Due to his 8:30am and 10:30am services at Hope, he will need us to move our service start time to 9:30am. We greatly appreciate his support of our church and giving of his limited time to provide us with more consistent services through Lent/Easter.

Time to Ring the Bell! It’s that time of year again! For anyone who would like to donate a little time to help the Salvation Army this holiday season, they are looking for folks to ring the bell at Tops of Arcade. Please contact Dawn Harrison at 585-492-2428 to sign up. There is a need for bell-ringers from 10am-7pm Tuesdays through Saturdays from now until Christmas! Did you know that 90% of the money raised stays here to help our local communities? Please consider helping with this important cause!

Christmas Fund and Christmas Memorial Blessings

Enclosed within the hard copies of the Carillon and within upcoming bulletins, you will find the Christmas Fund envelope for the Veterans of the Cross and the Emergency Fund. For over 100 years, this Christmas Fund has been a way to ensure that a light of love and hope will always shine for faithful servants of our church who find themselves facing unforeseen financial need. We are grateful for the generosity of churches and individuals who contributed a total of $2,539,471 to the 2018 Offering, enabling us to provide Pension Supplementation, Health Premium Supplementation, special grants for emergencies, and Christmas “Thank You” Gift Checks to over 1,000 individuals and families in need. You will also find our Christmas Memorial Blessings Project within the Carillon and upcoming bulletins, which will be used to assist those locals in need with their home heating bills through Crabb Oil. Please take a moment and prayerfully consider giving to these important collections. Envelopes can be returned to the Church Office or placed in the collection plate during service. We thank you for your thoughtful contribution.

News of Our People Jay May and the Arcade Village Board of Trustees presented a proclamation, which Jeff Mason shared at Dr. Gordon Comstock’s memorial service, that November 22, 2019 would be Dr. Gordon Comstock Day in the Village of Arcade. This is in honor and memory of the work and service he provided to our community, the surrounding areas and the residents of La Laguna, Honduras. A banner will be created, with the help of his grandchildren and the youth of Arcade UCC, which will be displayed on the anniversary of his passing next year. Deb Wood and Vanessa Adams have worked to create a memorial for Dr. Comstock in the windows of the front office. The proclamation given by the Village of Arcade is displayed there, along with a glimpse of just some of the good work he helped with through NY/HELP Honduras. Please stop by to check out this special display.

The office windows facing Main St. display a memorial

for Dr. Gordon Comstock.

The church received a newsletter recently from Lynda Hauser, daughter of Pastor Charles Hobbs. It is a wonderful interview with Pastor Hobbs containing pictures and direct quotes from him. This newsletter will be displayed on the desk in the Church Library if anyone would like to read it. Worker’s Union and the church office both sent him letters in return to let Pastor Hobbs know we are thinking of him and praying for him as well. Kim Common, and several others, presented a powerful service on Sunday, November 17. It was an enactment of the modern day parable “the Ragman.” With the help of Ryan Bechdel, Debi Lutz, Jamey Craft, Jim Vrenna, Rich Vogt, Dona Roll and others, it was a unique way of presenting a heart-touching message that everyone took something from.

Women of the Bible Who are the women of the Bible? Why are they important? Read along with me each month as we discover their stories. Eve: In His Own Image "So God created man in his own image; in the image of God created He him: male and female created He them. Genesis 1:27 The fact that God did not give man dominion until he had woman standing beside him is evidence enough of her exalted place in the Creation. The theme of the story is that God, seeing the incompleteness of man standing alone, wanted to find a helper for him. God was obliged to make for man a helper who was equal and shared the same process of creation in which he shared. And so, God created Eve, whose name means "Life" not from the animal kingdom, but from the rib of Adam himself. Despite her later transgressions, Eve still stands as a revelation of the Father, and as one who can rise above her transgressions. Mary: Mother of Jesus For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 Mary stands apart from all the other women in history. No other woman in the world has been so honored or revered. Today, as in the time of Jesus birth, Mary is the embodiment of one of the greatest and still unexplained miracles of the Bible, the virgin Birth. Because of this, she is unique in the history of women, as is her son, who brought salvation to mankind. Reference: All the Women of the Bible by Edith Deen

Weight Watchers Date Change

Due to Christmas and New Years Day falling on Wednesdays, Weight Watchers will be changing their meeting dates for just those two weeks. They will meet on Monday, December 23 and Monday, December 30 at their usual time. All other weeks will remain the same on Wednesdays.

New Links on Church Webpage

Ryan Bechdel has worked to put links for both the Carillon newsletter and the Annual Reports for the church onto our church webpage. Currently, they both date back to 2013, but we hope to add more issues in the near future. This will allow you and prospective pastors, to look back at important information about our church from previous years with ease! Be sure to check it out! www.arcadeucc.com

Advent Windows

Have you stopped to see the stunning Advent windows facing Main Street yet? Wynn Roll and Deb Wood spent hours creating these beautiful masterpieces that are a wonder to view during the day, but even more amazing after dark! We would like to thank both of them for their time, dedication and hard work to make our windows a sight to behold yet again! We appreciate you so very much and love that the community, including the students on their Walk Around Town coming up December 4 and 5, will be able to witness such beauty at our church!

Financial Report

INCOME November $8,034.77

EXPENSES November $6,236.07

INCOME Oct 1-Nov 30 $26,092.55

EXPENSES Oct 1-Nov 30 $11,706.00

Our non-pass-through expenditures in November included $1,978.26 salaries; $1,410.50 insurance; $415 pulpit supply; $400 Our Church’s Wider Mission to the state and national UCC; $308 village utilities; $279.94 Christmas cantata; $270.78 copier leases; $256.78 office supplies; $200 brick (see below); $169 gas bill; $149.30 Sunday School curriculum and activities; $143.45 Sunday School supplies; $104.45 phones; $87.20 postage; $54.92 custodial supplies; $50 Chamber of Commerce dues; and $20 mowing.

Hope Lutheran Church is making rapid progress on the construction of a new community center. Individuals can purchase bricks in honor or in memory of someone, and churches can purchase a brick that will become part of a brick cross. Our church has purchased a brick to honor the ministry of Rev. Robert Dievendorf.

Our members have continued with their generous financial support during our time without a called pastor. This has made it possible to purchase term notes from the United Church of Christ Cornerstone Fund that will provide us with a reserve for when we call our next pastor.

Church Profile is Ready for Viewing!

Our Search Committee has worked hard and through many long hours to complete the profile for our church. It is now up and ready to be viewed! It is a fluid document, which means there is still work being done to it, so we ask that you do not make copies of it yet. There is a hard copy in the Church Library if you wish to view it. We would like to give our Search Committee the kudos and recognition for an amazing job on this extensive project!

FAREWELL

We send our best wishes along to Tom and

Deb Scott and to Helen and Gary Boling. The Scotts

have sold their home and are traveling in their

motor home, and the Bolings are in the process of

moving to Texas.

Committee Reports

Workers Union Workers Union met November 13th and began

the meeting with prayer and concerns for our

friends who are having difficult times. The

Secretary’s report was approved and was followed

by the Treasurer’s report. Treasurer, Sharon

Hawley reported that she had “rolled” thirty dollars

in pennies and thanked all for giving. All Holiday

giving was approved and noted that the NY/Help

mission, as always, is in Rev. Charlie Hobbs name.

He is 93 now and sends his love to all. An addition

to our giving list, CHOICES was recommended and

it was agreed to purchase diapers for their baby

supply.

A wonderful program was given by Sheila Vrenna

about the windows in the sanctuary. She has

delved into the history of two of the dedicated

windows and an amazing ancestry of our church

members is revealed. We look forward to future

dissertations.

The next meeting is December 11th at 1:30 in the

church. After Christmas dessert, a CHRISTMAS

MEMORIES program will be shared. We welcome

all to join us for a very pleasant social time—Merry

Christmas.
