The Joy of My Soul The  third Sunday  in Advent  is also known as Gaudete Sunday. We  light  the pink candle on  the Advent wreath. We are half‐way through Advent. We hear joy proclaimed in the readings today.  

Our collect reads in part, “ see how your people faithfully await the feast of the Lord’s Nativity, enable us, we pray, to attain the joys of so great a salvation and to celebrate them always with solemn worship and glad rejoicing”. We are encouraged to celebrate with worship and glad rejoicing. This is our reminder as we begin our Liturgy.  

In our first Reading, Isaiah declares that “the Spirit of the Lord is upon me.” He also proclaims, “I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the joy of my soul”. He gives many examples of how he has experienced God’s  love and goodness. This Sunday gives me the chance to call to mind all the graces and blessings God has given and continues to give me every day. Even during a pandemic, the goodness of God  is all around me. I just have to have eyes to see it.   

Mary, our Mother, is another example of proclaiming the joy she feels from God. Our Responsorial Psalm today is Mary’s Magnificat. It is her response to the greeting of her cousin Elizabeth. “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”.  These words tell of Mary’s great trust in God. She speaks of the wonderful things God does for her and us. She speaks of God’s mercy  in every generation, of God filling  the hungry  remembering his promise of mercy. Mary  reminds us also of  the great things God does for all of us.  

St. Paul tells the Thessalonians, “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing.  In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you.”  Rejoice and give thanks in all circumstances. Pray without ceasing. This is our message too. Even when circumstances are not what we want or  like, we are to rejoice and give thanks for what God has done for us.   

In Mark’s Gospel, John the Baptist tells the priest, Levites, and Pharisees that he is not the one they have been waiting for. There is one coming after him and John says he not even worthy to untie his sandals! He also tells them the “one” is among them and they do not recognize him. Do we recognize Jesus with us? Do we see Jesus in each other?  Is Jesus the joy in my soul? Gaudete Sunday gives us time to think about this before we celebrate our Savior’s birth.

Comenzando con misas el fin de semana del 2 y 3 de enero, cambiaremos el procedimiento para  las reservaciones  de  la  misas.    Todos  deben  llamar para hacer su reservación cada semana, pero ya no tendrá  que  recoger  los  boletos.  Tendremos  una lista con  los nombres de  los que se  inscribieron y las entradas que solicitaron en casa. Revisaremos su nombre a medida que  ingrese. Esperamos que este  nuevo  procedimiento  lo  haga  más  fácil  y conveniente para quienes deseen asistir a misa.  También a partir del 3 de enero de 2021, la misa de las 6:00 pm. del domingo ya no será bilingüe.  Solo será en inglés. 

Starting with Masses the weekend of January 2nd & 3rd, we will be changing the procedure for mass reservations.  Everyone  must  still  call  for  a reservation each week, but you will no longer have to  pick  up  tickets. We  will  have  a  list  with  the names  of  those  who  registered  and  how  many tickets  they  requested. We will  check  your name as you come  in. We hope this new procedure will make  it  easier  and  more  convenient  for  those wishing to attend mass.  Also beginning on January 3rd, 2021, the 6:00 PM mass on Sunday will no longer be bi‐lingual. It will be in English only.

El Gozo de Mi Alma El tercer domingo de Adviento también se conoce como domingo de Gaudete. Encendemos la vela rosa de la corona de Adviento. Estamos a mitad de camino del Adviento. Escuchamos la alegría proclamada en las lecturas de hoy.  

Nuestra colecta dice en parte: "Mira cómo tu pueblo espera fielmente la fiesta de la Natividad del Señor, permítenos,  y  oramos,  para  alcanzar  el  gozo  de  una  salvación  tan  grande  y  celebrarlo  siempre  con adoración solemne y gozo". Se nos anima a celebrar con adoración y gozo. Este es nuestro recordatorio al comenzar nuestra liturgia.  

En nuestra primera  lectura,  Isaías declara que "el Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí". También proclama: “Me alegro de corazón en el Señor, en mi Dios está el gozo de mi alma”. Da muchos ejemplos de cómo ha experimentado el amor y  la bondad de Dios. Este domingo me da  la oportunidad de recordar todas  las gracias  y  bendiciones  que  Dios me  ha  dado  y me  sigue  dando  todos  los  días.  Incluso  durante  una pandemia, la bondad de Dios está a mi alrededor. Solo necesito tener ojos para verlo.  

María, nuestra Madre, es otro ejemplo de proclamación de  la alegría que siente de Dios. Nuestro Salmo Responsorial de hoy es el Magnificat de María. Es su  respuesta al saludo de su prima  Isabel. “Mi alma proclama la grandeza del Señor; mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador”. Estas palabras hablan de la gran confianza de María en Dios. Habla de  las cosas maravillosas que Dios hace por ella y por nosotros. Ella habla de la misericordia de Dios en cada generación, de Dios colmando a los hambrientos recordando su  promesa  de misericordia. María  también  nos  recuerda  las  grandes  cosas  que Dios  hace  por  todos nosotros.  

Sn. Pablo les dice a los tesalonicenses: “Estad siempre gozosos. Orar sin cesar. En toda circunstancia, da gracias, porque esta es la voluntad de Dios para ti”. Regocíjate y da gracias en toda circunstancia. Orar sin cesar. Este es también nuestro mensaje. Incluso cuando las circunstancias no son lo que queremos o nos gusta, debemos regocijarnos y dar gracias por lo que Dios ha hecho por nosotros.  

En el Evangelio de Marcos, Juan el Bautista le dice al sacerdote, a los levitas y a los fariseos que él no es el que estaban esperando. Hay uno que viene detrás de él y Juan dice que ni siquiera es digno de desatarse las sandalias. También les dice que el "uno" está entre ellos y no lo reconocen. ¿Reconocemos a Jesús con nosotros? ¿Vemos a Jesús el uno en el otro? ¿Es Jesús el gozo de mi alma? El domingo de Gaudete nos da tiempo para pensar en esto antes de celebrar el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador.

FINANCIAL REPORT The financial report summarizes our fiscal year that ended June 30, 2020, which included three months of parish/school closure. The  shut‐down  impacted our  liturgical celebrations: first, daily/weekly mass  then the Easter Triduum. The pandemic continues to have a significant  impact on our finances as well. From March‐June 2020 our church collections were down by 50%. In addition, social events like the Noche de los Americas  and  Fall  Fest, which  also  provide  financial  support, were  cancelled.  From March‐June,  our expenses were down by 15%. We continued to pay our employees through the end of June but have, since then, made some changes to our staffing. While we continue to minister in ways that are COVID safe, we have made changes to standard parish operations (office hours have changed, the Breaking Bread/Misal del dia order was cancelled, church flower order has been reduced, etc.)  

Since July and the start of the new school year, our schedules and school attendance procedures have changed  several  times.  We  continue  to  follow  CDC  guidelines  to  maintain  a  safe  environment  for everyone. We appreciate your continued support and ask that in this time of need you consider increasing your parish contributions, if you are able. Please also consider using Give Central as your giving platform. Thank you for helping us as we navigate the remainder of the pandemic restrictions. 

REPORTE FINANCIERO El  reporte financiero  resume el año fiscal que finalizó el 30 de  junio del 2020 que  también  incluye  tres meses donde  la parroquia y  la escuela estuvieron cerradas por  la pandemia. Durante este tiempo todas nuestras celebraciones fueron afectadas. Por este motivo, las finanzas de nuestra iglesia también fueron impactadas de forma negativa. De marzo a junio de este año nuestras colectas semanales bajaron en 50%. Además, debido a la pandemia tuvimos que cancelar muchas actividades como la Noche de las Américas y muchos otros eventos que generaban ingresos. Por este motivo tuvimos que hacer cambios importantes para ayudar a nuestra parroquia financieramente. De marzo a  junio pudimos reducir nuestros gastos en un 15% y así mejorar un poco nuestras finanzas. Durante este tiempo no dejamos de pagar salarios ni otros gastos, pero debido a  la pandemia hemos cortado horas de oficina y  también  reducido algunos gastos como los misales para la Misa y flores para arréalos de la iglesia.  

Desde julio, y al empezar el año nuevo escolar, modificamos los horarios de la escuela para así garantizar la salud y el bienestar nuestros estudiantes y maestros. Todo eso lo hemos hecho con el fin de seguir los protocolos y las normas del estado y de la nación. Como siempre, les agradecemos de todo corazón sus contribuciones a nuestra parroquia. Aunque estos son momentos difíciles para muchos, si ustedes tienen la oportunidad de incrementar su colaboración semanal, se los agradecemos de todo corazón. Consideren también  la  oportunidad  de  utilizar  Give  Central  como  una  forma  diferente  y  segura    de  hacer  sus donaciones  semanales en  línea. Gracias  a  todos por  su  ayuda  y generosidad durante estos momentos difíciles de la pandemia. Que Dios les pague su generosidad.
