Junior Boys Volleyball (Grade 9)
The Junior Boys, coached by Mr. Greening, spent most of their season practicing
and preparing for the final playoff tournament in Weyburn. Their hard work paid
off and they advanced to meet a strong Weyburn team in the final. Although they
lost, they played their very best volleyball of the year. Their serving, hitting, and
overall grit allowed them to hold their own against Weyburn and showed me that
they are ready to play on the Senior Boys volleyball team next year.
This year’s players included: Olivier Poirier, Peyton Stewart, Merrick Sanborn,
Layne Chicoine, Jon Ulmer, Evan James, Zach Hill, and Kameron Martin.
Mr. Greening would like to thank Mrs. Ulmer and Mr. Martin for
driving.
History 20 Road Trip to Brandon/Shiloh
In October, the History 20 class travelled to Brandon Airport to
see the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) Museum. Highlights in-
cluded our tour guide Judith, the new Remembrance Wall of Names, and a Hawk-
er Hurricane. This museum’s goal is to educate the public about Canada’s enor-
mous contribution to World War II. The students then travelled to the Royal Cana-
dian Artillery Museum at the Shiloh Military base. This is one of Canada’s greatest
military museums. The history of artillery use in Canada begins at the beginning,
with the First Nations. This is followed with the coverage of key events in Canadi-
an history, such as The Riel Rebellion, World War I, and World War II. The tour fin-
ished with a special exhibition—World War I, 1916. This is another museum in
our own back yard that everyone should make the effort to visit.
This year’s tour participants included: Kelsey Van Sprundel, Bailey Garnier, Savan-
nah Matthewson, Kamila Sanborn, Zane Schwandt, Obe de Juan, Kaye de Juan,
Jessica Hamilton, and Chelsey Ross.
Mr. Greening would like to thank Mr. Sanborn for driving and the Leadership Group for providing funds for admission and tour guides.
This is the first year for all of our rookie volleyball boys (Grades 5 and 6) to participate in the volleyball playoffs. The team, coached by Mr. Pilapil, have developed some basic vol-leyball skills throughout this fall season. On November 10th, 2016, our Rookie Boys played the teams from Maryfield and Yellowgrass in the Volleyball
Playoffs in Maryfield School. The team showed great sports-manship and supported each other throughout the event. Members of the team are Ay-den Raymond, Declyn Hender-son, Minetesenot James, Sam George, Taylor Martin, Jordan Campbell, Miles Nord, Cade Mohrbutter, Kaleb Cop, Kori Roberts, Shane Sanborn, Turner Jacobson, Justin Poirier and
