MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Take a look around and my, things really have changed in 112 years in downtown Saginaw and throughout our area. One change that has not occurred is the rich and proud tradition represented by your membership at the Saginaw Club. As we wind up the calendar year, one of the cherished landmarks of distinction in downtown remains your club.

What no longer exists? The list is long and includes five proud department stores with names most of you could rattle off in a heartbeat. Some of the best locally owned jewelry stores around. Major banking institutions. Specialty men and women’s shops.

Those were the good old days. The great news is this. They are still here. Your Saginaw Club is here for your night out for the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra or Saginaw Choral Society performances at the Temple. Your Saginaw Club is still here for a Maids night out for Thursday night dinner. Your Saginaw Club is still here for one of the best holiday parties you’ll ever attend. Your Saginaw Club is still here for any kind of special event you and your business associates or family would like to celebrate. The only thing missing from time to time is you. Can’t wait to see you soon at your club.

Some quick reminders.

The annual Christmas Stag happens Wednesday, December 12th. This holiday get together is very casual with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a few bad jokes. During our November Stag for Past Presidents’ Night bartender Lee was busier than the 4th of July at T. I. Over 50 fellow members and past presidents had a great time reminiscing and telling stories of significant embellishment.

Don’t make me eat my words. The Saginaw Club Christmas Dinner Dance is a must for you and your guests to attend. I’ve promised Manager Lindy Mills and Chef Ben a record crowd. Can we count on YOU? This is an evening of great celebration which brings back many fond memories for Deirdre and me. I’m reminded of how many families are able to come together with their adult children and spouses to celebrate the holidays in the unique setting the Saginaw Club offers with three floors of FUN!

Toast to the Office of the President of the United States!

Last year we spilled the beans prior to the toast. This year the element of surprise returns. What prominent member of your club will provide the toast? I can assure you this individual will bring a perspective not often found in many communities. Sure hope you can join us.

“Mac” MacDonaldPresident

HAPPY HOLIDAYS The Board of Managers and Club Staff wish you and your loved ones peace, happiness and good health this holiday season and throughout the coming year.

CHRISTMAS IN THE CITYIt is truly a wonderful time of the year at the Saginaw Club. Remember to “Leave the burden of your toil outside the friendly door” and let us share the holidays with you.

WHY I BELONG – A new monthly feature. Contact the club if you’d like to share your story.

“I belong to the Saginaw Club because I believe this club is an institution and very important to the vitality of our downtown. It is a historic building which makes it a great meeting place to spend time and socialize with many other business leaders from our area. When I look at the pictures of all our past presidents, in the bistro area, I find myself thinking about how much these presidents did to help build and shape our community. I am left wondering and somewhat challenged by these mentors as to what I will do as a Saginaw Club member to make this city better, stronger? At the Saginaw Club we find friendship and comradely from our daily lives!” - Tim Hausbeck

S A L U T E!November Stag Night was the 3rd annual salute to the club’s past presidents! Apparently not all were headed for Deer Camp Wednesday night with a lively crowd of 60 joining the Saginaw Club Past Presidents Night celebration, which included 12 past presidents. Chef Ben was at his best serving 40 guests a delicious roast beef dinner. Thanks to all that joined the fun.

MANAGER’S MESSAGEThe Holidays! It’s the time of year to set some of life’s troubles aside to enjoy the season. Our beautiful club slogan “We leave the Burden of our Toil Outside the Friendly Door” exemplifies the

holiday spirit. Perhaps it explains why the club has played such an important role in member holiday activities since the beginning in 1889.

In many respects coming into the club dressed in its finest traditional holiday decorations is somewhat like stepping back in time. That’s what makes the season so special – reflecting back on all your

personal and family memories and tradition while enjoying the moment. Those beautiful Courier & Ives pictures, enjoyed by so many, also serve as a reminder of the club in a bygone era.

There are several nice events scheduled which begin with Thanksgiving. Please let your club be a part of this year’s holiday celebration.

NOVEMBER’S “INSIDE BUSINESS” SPEAKER SERIES A HIT!SVSU President, Dr. Eric Gilbertson, along with SVSU Alumni Chair Dave Abbs, shared the Saginaw Valley State College story from its 1963 roots to its pending 50 year anniversary to be celebrated next year. It was all part of the Saginaw Club “Inside Business” Speaker Series with guest speaker and former Saginaw resident Mike Finney. Mike is currently the head of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for Governor Rick Snyder. Over 70 were in attendance with 16 staying for dinner following the presentation. Lots of positive feedback has been received by the Club from those attending.

CHEF’S CORNER Holiday Wine Sale – Let the club add some cheer to your

holiday season! Fabulous wines at great values. Bottle prices are just 15% over club cost and cases are only 10%

above club cost. Wine will take approximately one week

to get in so provide ample time if you’d like to receive it for a specific holiday celebration. You will receive a separate flyer/order form in the mail listing available wines with
