Thank you to all who participated in this year's Harvest Festi-val. It was by any measure a success. You all came together and supported the work of the church with your gifts.
I would be wrong not to publicly thank Brandon and Lesley Williams and Jimmy and Candy Jones. I can't name everyone that had anything to do with the event but these four people spearheaded the whole thing. Again thank you!
Everyone is excited about the amount of money we raised. I agree that over $38,000 is nothing to sneeze at. That is a lot of money and it will do great things for the church. But that's not the real blessing of the Harvest Festival. One of the blessings was seeing the Family Life Center filled with children and adults - all of them hungry. Another blessing was the need to bring more chairs into the gym to accommo-date all of the people who gathered there. Even then we couldn't get enough chairs to allow everyone to sit down at the same time. WOW! Another blessing was the various groups that gathered early in the day to prepare the chili and stew and desserts. (I was on the chili team - now that's fun).
But the real blessing is when God's children gather together to do God's work. An auction may not seem like God's work but it is just one more means by which God's work gets done. To see everyone together either working or relaxing or joking around is truly a blessing. Thank you all for bless-ing Maggie and me through your presence and participation at this year's Harvest Festival. God is so good!
"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" (Matthew 18:20 NIV).
PETE’S PLACE
DEBBIE’S DARING ADVENTURE Have you ever had a Friday, the 13th experience on a Thurs-day? As you started on a trip? Before 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 10, I had squished Lew’s glasses, missed the exit for HWY 183 to the DFW airport, missed the exit at the airport for South Remote, got in the wrong line to check in at the American Eagle ticket counter, put my jacket on inside-out after security, and started to head into the men’s restroom. I’ve even forgotten what the 7th flub was. With Lew not being able to see anything at a distance, he had to trust me. I wasn’t sure that I trusted myself or felt worthy of trust with all the wrong turns. My praying to God for help and peace started on the drive to the airport. Yet the missteps contin-ued. Eventually we started laughing at the whole experi-ence. What a lesson in trusting and letting go of control. Whom I really need to trust is God, even in the unexpected experiences. My adventure is to put my life in God’s hands.
WOW! We have our ten S.S. classes plus a new group tak-ing The Journey together in exploring Mary and Joseph’s story of their actual and spiritual travels to the manger in Bethlehem! We’re learning new aspects about the story and exploring what it means to journey with God! It’s not too late to participate. Join a SS class, try out the new class in the Ad Bldg in Conference Room 2, or purchase a book from Nancy in the church office or download the Kindle version at www.amazon.com.
THE JOURNEY
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us " (1 John 4:8-12).
Journey with us this Advent Season as we explore the promise of love given to us by God. It will be a rewarding and uplifing time. A time of celebration and joy and sharing God's love. A time of experiencing the presence of Jesus Christ with us and within us. A time of love.

Lighting of the Christmas Tree at HCMH Our Children’s choirs have been asked to sing at the hospital Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 1st! This is a special honor as well as a great opportunity for us to give back to our com-munity. Please come and show your support for our children and the hospital!
Last Wonderful Wednesday for Fall Wednesday, December 7th will be our last Wonderful Wednesday for the semester! See below for more information on this busy but exciting evening:
Rehearsal It is also our last rehearsal for the Christmas concert! Parents, we appreciate you trying extra hard this week to have your children here by 6:00. There is a lot to go over, and our children always have lots of questions before a per-formance, and we don’t want any children to miss any important information.
Ornament Party Following the rehearsal, we will have our annual Ornament Party! This is a family event and we invite parents and children of all ages to come participate in making ornaments. We will have 3 or 4 ornaments for parents to make with their children and take home to decorate your tree! Parents, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to spend time with your children in the midst of the holiday craze. It is a relaxed evening of fun, fellowship and, of course, cookies and cocoa!
Once Upon a Time in Bethlehem, Dec. 11th at 9:45 am The Kingdom Kids and Joyful Noise choirs will have their Christmas concert on Sunday, December 11th during the Sunday school hour! Mark your calendars now and join us in the sanctuary for a joyful night of songs and celebration! Children will need to be in the choir room by 9:15 that morning.
Mission Possible Kids Thank you to everyone who purchased an ornament from the Mission Possible Kids at Harvest! The kids worked hard making them, and, thanks to you, they raised $340 for Sarah Fox’s mission trip! All proceeds from ornaments and FUMC decals went to Sarah’s mission fund.
Advent Adventure! Advent is here and we’re ready to celebrate! Look for an advent-themed craft or activity in the Zoo each Sunday morn-ing, as well as special surprises for just stopping by!

A Christmas Awakening . . .
Everyone is invited and welcomed to attend a Christmas Awakening on Wednesday, Dec. 14th at Heritage Park starting at 6:30 pm. Worship will be led by a group of local students from all of the youth groups participating in the event. And we will have special guest speaker Daniel Cooper from Blue Fish Ministries joining us to lead us in the message of what Christmas is really all about!
I hope you will make plans to attend this wonderful event. You might want to bring a blanket to sit on in the little amphitheater at Heritage Park. We will drop off and pick up directly from the park on that evening. If weather is a factor, we will move the event to Davis St. Baptist Church, but we will get the word out if that occurs.
My prayer is that this event, as well as everything we do this time of year, reminds us of the true meaning and spirit of this season!
SnS . . . see you next semester
Well it was another great semester for Sunday Night Stud-ies (SnS). We want to say a special thanks to everyone who helped make it such a success. A huge thanks to Lane and Brooke Doughtie for leading our Jr. High study, and for Darryl and Laura Doughtie for allowing us to in-vade their home each week. It’s really hard to get Jr. High students excited week in and week out to come to Bible Study!
And another huge thanks to Kendall Smith and Jenna Davis for leading our Sr. High Girls study. They had a wonderful time getting together and talking about God in a “girly” way that I was not “allowed” to wit-ness! Thanks to Mike and Susan Smith for letting them hang at their place each afternoon.
And then yet another huge thanks to John Prick-ette, Ryan McKenzie and Jason Dietze for working with our Sr. High Boys each Sunday night. As always, “if you burn it, they will come” (at least pizza boxes anyway)! We had a great time hanging out around the fire and sharing our thoughts and lives together.
We will let you know the exact the date we will resume SnS in January at our Parent/Student competition night. Thanks again to everyone for helping make this a great semester.

Now that Christmas Day is only four weeks away, FUMC is well into studying the Advent series The Journey based on the story of Mary, Joseph and the birth of baby Jesus.
In the last two weeks, dozens of Church members have begun preparing for another component of Christ-mas: Increasing the focus on Christ throughout the community. They have chosen the theme “Christmas Begins With Christ.” At the Harvest Festival more than 50 ordered colorful shirts with that mes-sage.
The Objective: Given the fact that every year organizations and individuals mount vicious attacks on Christmas, with some retailers even prohib-iting the use of the word in signage and greetings, it’s time to circle the wagons and remind the world that without the birth of Jesus Christ, there would be no Christmas.
Choice of Styles and Colors: All shirts are top-quality cotton, available in three styles and three colors. Crew-neck sweats, hoodies, long-sleeve tees; in white, green or navy blue. The sweats and hoodies are $14 and
the tees are $10. Also children’s sizes in navy blue with silver print, $5.
Shirts Ordered, Ready Sunday, Nov. 27th: Those who ordered and paid for shirts can pick them up on
Sunday, November 27th. There will be a table in the Gathering Room of the Educa-tion Building near the restrooms.
New Orders: On that same Sunday (Nov. 27th) there will be another table in the same area with sample shirts and order forms. Shirts or-dered and paid that day should be ready to pick up by Dec. 8th.
Shirt Sunday: Interest is growing from several members in selecting Sunday, December 11th, as a day for all who choose to wear their shirts to Church. As you know, there is a special Children’s Music program for the normal
Sunday School hour.
What a timely opportunity to demonstrate our focus on and commitment to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

The First UMC Choir presents
Tapestry of Light A Celtic Christmas Celebration
by Joseph M. Martin
The music of Christmas is a treasure for both the ear and the heart. Each winter it covers our lives with a hopeful blanket of sound and reminds us that even in the silence of winter, there is song. Each tradi-tion offers its own rich vocabulary of holiday carols joining together faith and art into a glorious fabric of melody and truth. From angelic acclamations to delicate lullabies, the message of God’s love leaps from the pages of our songbooks and finds a home in the tender places of our hearts.
