Thank you to everyone w h o donated so generously to Sophia's K i t c h e n Christmas bags! The r e s p o n s e w a s

overwhelming. We were able to share more than 1,000 bags of groceries with our guests. Each bag had more than a week's worth of food, and they also received either a turkey, ham or Kroger gift card. The bags were donated by I l l inois American Water Company. Thanks to Frank Abdnour at Peoria Township, we

had some turkeys to give out. Kroger gift cards were a blessing from a parishioner. Our guests want to tell you thank you from the bottom of their hearts. This kindness means the world to them!

Sophia's Kitchen will be closed now until we reopen on January 11. This pause allows our volunteers to quarantine, and for some necessary repairs to be made at the kitchen. Ductwork will be replaced, and after eleven years of service, paint will be refreshed. The main rooms will

remain the same great mushroom brown that Fr. Larry so wisely picked. The lobby will be updated to a durable dusty pink with wainscott to withstand the heavy wear this room receives. We are grateful to Born Paint for their donation of all the paint. When guests step into our building, we want them to know they are valued. This begins with beautiful surroundings. Thank you for making this possible!

REPAIRS have begun at St. Joseph Church to replace the roof that was damaged in the storm last spring.

The "Holy Hour for the Rights of the Unborn" will be temporarily held at Saint Mark's Church, 1113 W. Bradley Avenue, in Peoria. It will be held at the usual time of 7:00 P.M., on the first Monday of the month, in this case on January 4th, 2021. For the time being, facial masks and social distancing is requested. It normally consists of Benediction, the Rosary, and other prayers. Please join us in praying to God for the protection of these innocent lives and the restoration of their Constitutional rights. Please remember that to have a right to do something is not the same as being right in doing it.

Tragedy and disappointment are inevitable. What sees you through this? There will be challenges, changes, unexpected circumstances, interrupted plans, hurts, and injustices experienced by every human being at some point in their lives. We will be asked to adjust our plans, change course, and even encounter suffering and death. Where do we learn all of the lessons we need to live life well? Some of them we learn along the way but much of what we bring to life, positive and negative, comes from our early beginnings, our families. This is our early world and provides the blueprint for how we see the bigger, more inclusive world, which unfolds before us.

Our families of origin can be sources of grace, heartache or a combination of both. Families are intended to be pivotal in providing us with proper social structure and understanding, a support system, lessons about relationships and communication, and the unconditional acceptance and love we so desperately crave. They can also determine whether we have an accessible and healthy relationship with God. Many of life’s challenges can literally bring us to our knees and require that we possess a strength of character that resides well beyond the superficialities of our world. At some point we will all need three coping gifts that can be given to us only by God: faith, hope, and love. Our families help us learn that we are not the ones responsible for their creation, but God!

Our experience of early family life colors all of our relationships and what we expect to achieve from life in general. Resolving conflicts, dealing with difficulty and suffering, celebrating accomplishments, prioritizing our needs, listening to God’s call, understanding relationships, understanding disappointment, learning about the virtues and living a centered focused life are all lessons our families either succeed in teaching or do not. To succeed, as God has designed and ordered our world, is to discover his presence and then trust that Presence. The Holy Family can teach even the most dysfunctional family how to best use God’s gifts of faith, hope, and love to find him and do his will. Their simple humble example is always before us, showing us the way. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!

“Porque mis ojos han visto a tu Salvador, al que has preparado para bien de todos los pueblos; luz que alumbra a las naciones y gloria de tu pueblo, Israel”. (Lc 2; 30-32)

Querida familia, la frase que elijo para esta semana es la siguiente: “porque mis ojos han visto a tu Salvador, al que has preparado para bien de todos los pueblos; luz que alumbra a las na-ciones y gloria de tu pueblo, Israel”. (Lc 2; 30-32) Una de las frases más fuertes para mi es la que Simeón dice levantando al niño: “Luz para alumbrar a las naciones”, realmente, tenemos que vivirlo así, el Señor trajo la Luz a todas las naciones cuando estas estaban perdidas en el pecado y la triste-za de haber perdido la Vida Eterna, este niño que hoy es presentado en el Templo es el que restau-

rará absolutamente todo en Él, dará nuevo sentido a lo que había perdido la “Luz” y devolverá la alegría a todos los que cre-an en Él como el Mesías. Ha llegado el momento de Gracia para todos y ahora todo tiene sentido pleno, de una forma nueva porque el Señor así lo quiere para cada uno de nosotros. Es una única oportunidad, el dejarnos abrazar por el amor de Dios es difícil, no estamos acostumbrados a dejarnos abrazar por un amor desinteresado como el de Dios. Pero Él solo quiere darnos lo mejor y esto es “La Luz”, la luz frente a mis miedos, luz frente a mis tristezas, luz frente a mis dudas, luz frente a mis problemas, luz frente a mi discernimiento, luz frente a la muerte. ¿Lo pensaron así?, ¿pensaron en el Señor como la luz que quiere devolvernos absolutamente todo lo que hemos perdido por el primer error de Adán y Eva? Espero que sí, porque justamente este es nuestro Dios, un Dios que es generoso con cada uno de nosotros. Es por eso que debemos luchar conti-nuamente para “ser hijos e la luz”, “jamás de las tinieblas”, este siempre será un desafío que tendremos que enfrentar co-mo comunidad pero que lo lograremos si valoramos el regalo que el Buen Dios nos hace cotidianamente: “ser iluminados por la Luz”. Quiero, en conjunto con este mensaje, dejarles un abrazo a todos los que semana a semana leen la editorial del Bo-letín del Corazón de Peoria, mis reflexiones no serán como las de un escritor o exegeta pero son reflexiones que brotan del Corazón para poder caminar juntos en medio de este mundo. Domingo dentro de la Octava de Navidad. Domingo de la Sagrada Familia. Lc 2, 22-40 Transcurrido el tiempo de la purificación de María, según la ley de Moisés, ella y José llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor, de acuerdo con lo escrito en la ley: Todo primogénito varón será consagrado al Señor, y también para ofrecer, como dice la ley, un par de tórtolas o dos pichones. Vivía en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, que aguardaba el consuelo de Israel; en él moraba el Espíritu Santo, el cual le había revelado que no moriría sin haber visto antes al Mesías del Señor. Movido por el Espíritu, fue al templo, y cuando José y María entraban con el niño Jesús para cumplir con lo prescrito por la ley, Simeón lo tomó en brazos y bendijo a Dios, diciendo: “Señor, ya puedes dejar morir en paz a tu siervo, según lo que me habías prometido, porque mis ojos han visto a tu Salvador, al que has preparado para bien de todos los pueblos; luz que alumbra a las naciones y gloria de tu pueblo, Israel”. El padre y la madre del niño estaban admirados de semejantes palabras. Simeón los bendijo, y a María, la madre de Jesús, le anunció: “Este niño ha sido puesto para ruina y resurgimiento de muchos en Israel, como signo que provocará contradicción, para que queden al descubierto los pensamientos de todos los corazones. Y a ti, una espada te atravesará el alma”. Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser. Era una mujer muy anciana. De joven, había vivido siete años casada y tenía ya ochenta y cuatro años de edad. No se apartaba del templo ni de día ni de noche, sirviendo a Dios con ayunos y oraciones. Ana se acercó en aquel momento, dando gracias a Dios y hablando del niño a todos los que aguardaban la liberación de Israel. Y cuando cumplieron todo lo que prescribía la ley del Señor, se volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret. El niño iba creciendo y fortaleciéndose, se llenaba de sabiduría y la gracia de Dios estaba con él.

Domingo de la Sagrada Familia

Querida familia, estamos celebrando este Domingo 27 de diciembre, dentro de la Octava de Navidad, la “Sagrada Familia de Nazaret”, esta fiesta muchas veces pasa desapercibida pero es una de las fiestas, a mi modo de ver, más importantes en conjunto con tantas otras celebraciones, es más, una fiesta que estos últimos años nos invita a rezar muy profundamente por todas las familias muchas veces atacadas por la modernidad que perdió el sentido profndo de la Familia.

No dejo de pensar en los días compartidos con mi familia cuando estaba en Argentina, siempre fuí testigo de como mis Padres, a pesar de las dificutades, caminaban juntos, ellos ahora tienen 81 años (Leonardo, mi papá) y 71 (María, mi mamá), los vi pelearse muchas veces, pero también los vi perdonarse muchas veces y para mi eso es un testimonio que jamás borraré, son imagenes que guardé con mucha delicadeza en mi corazón. Hoy los veo grandes, con más de 55 años de casados pero amandosé como aquél primer día que se conocieron. Estoy Seguro que el día que falte uno de ellos el otro se vendrá abajo de una forma inesperada porque se que no podrían vivir el uno sin el otro. De ese matrimonio nacimos seis hermanos, cuatro mujeres y dos varones, el otro varon partió a la Casa del Padre hace un par de años –dolor para mis padres que tampoco jamás olvidaré– todos crecimos y cada uno tomó un rumbo diferente, todos se casaron exepto yo que me aventuré al sacerdocio luego de experimentar el llamado en mis años de adolescencia. Tuvimos simpre muchas peleas como hermanos, celos, y discusiones que hasta el día de hoy siguen dividiendonos pero de lo que estoy seguro es que como familia, hay un vinculo que nos une que jamás nos separará con nuestros padres, ya desgastados por los años de la vida, y entre nosotros como hermanos.

En esto consiste “ser familia”, en que a lo mejor no se vive de la forma que uno desearía pero si es la forma que la vida nos regala a cada uno, lo que tengo es lo mejor que puedo tener. Mis padres son los mejores que puedo tener, mis hermanos son los mejores que puedo tener, mis familia es la mejor que puedo tener y ser agradecidos con ellos será uno de los pasos esenciales para ser feliz y amar a mi familia. Así fue la “Familia de Nazaret”, ellos solo vivieron en la profundidad de la intimidad, con sus miedos y desafios, como toda familia, pero nunca dejaron de estar juntos y eso fue lo que los hizo diferente y unió cada vez más. Aquí se encuentra el desafió de toda familia y que toda familia no debería de perder jamás. Somos tan tercos a veces, que nos cuesta mirar este ejemplo de la “Familia de Nazaret” e imitar para cada uno de nosotros.

Quiero que reflexionemos sobre esto y a ejemplo de la “Familia de Nazaret”, pidamos que la “unión” y la “Paz” sea lo que sostenga a tantas familias que hoy lo necesitan. No es dificil sentarse y contemplar la Sagrada Familia, solo debo hacerlo.

“En la Resurrección, la Luz iluminará toda vida” El Señor Jesús es la Luz que ilumina toda vida, El Evangelio que tenemos para este Domingo 27 de Diciembre, en donde celebramos la “Sagrada Familia de Nazaret”, Simeón cuando levanta al Niño dice: “… Luz para alumbrar a las naciones y gloria de tu pueblo Israel”, El mismo Simeón reconoce a Jesús como la Luz, la luz que le devuelve el sentido a todo lo creado, el sentido perdido por el pecado pero ahora recuperado por la Vida, por el mismo Dios que no nos quiso perder a ninguno de nosotros. Esta es la verdadera Luz, no la que el mundo muchas veces nos quiere vender a oferta para que creamos que el sentido esta en poner la mirada en las cosas terrenales; para nada; el verdadero sentido de la vida está en el Cielo y solo si levantamos la mirada a lo alto, al cielo, podremos ser iluminados profundamente por la Luz inagotable. ¿te pusiste a pensar que muchas veces no nos animamos a mirar la Luz?, escapamos de Cristo como si Él en vez de darnos sentido a la vida no los quitara. Es momento de volver la mirada a Él y solo disfrutar el regalo de dejarnos iluminar por la “Luz que ilumina toda vida”. Padre Julio.

Fiesta en honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe. El Comité de la Virgen de Guadalupe representado por Carlos Davalos, quiere agradecer de una manera especial a todos los que han sido parte de estos festejos de la Virgen de Guadalupe que se llevaron a cabo estas semanas pasadas en el Corazón de Peoria. Tanto a las personas que colaboraron con su tiempo (danzas, tamales, arreglos florales, limpieza de los diferentes espacios ocupados) o materialmente. Somos conscientes que una comunidad crece si trabaja unida y hemos sido testigos de que muchos de nuestra comunidad han trabajado desde el Silencio de una u otra manera. Gracias de Corazón. Horarios 2020. Para este 2020, los horarios de la Adoraciones de los viernes continuará desde las 9am hasta a las 5pm en la Catedral Santa María todos los viernes, y la Misa diaria será de martes a viernes en la Iglesia San José a las 5:30pm el rezo del Santo Rosario y a las 6pm la Santa Misa –las Misas no son más en la Cate-dral Santa María de Lunes a viernes a las 8:30am-. El resto de los grupos irán informando sobre las activi-dades programadas para cada uno de ellos. Este tiempo consideremos que debido a la pandemia hubo cambios en las actividades programadas para el Corazón de Peoria.

Edificando familia Juntos Tenemos el agrado de contarte que se puso en marcha la recuperación de la Iglesia San Pedro, esta Iglesia, ya hace un tiempo sin funciones, a sido entregada al Ministerio Hispano para que sea el nuevo centro San Juan Diego, en donde la comunidad hispana tendrá su centro de reuniones y eventos. Como comunidad hispana queremos invitarte a ser parte de este proyecto esperado y soñado por muchos. El lema que nos guiará será “Edificando familia juntos”, lema que queremos instaurar para la vida de Fe de nuestra gente en la Diócesis de Peoria. Este proyecto lo encomendamos a San Juan Diego, para que así como supo llevar con humildad la notica al Obispo sobre la aparición de la Madre del Cielo, así nosotros podamos, trabajando como familia, llevar la noticia a las periferias como comunidad que crece en comunión. Bendiciones del Divino Niño Este año aremos la bendiciones de los Divinos Niños en la Misa que se celebrará el día 24 de Diciembre a las 6pm en la Iglesia San José, en donde se realizará también la pastorela. Ese día Bendeciremos a los Niños que serán puestos en los nacimientos durante esa noche. Te esperamos, lleva tu Divino Niño…

La comisión de trabajo presidida por el Señor Jorge Martinez – 309-868-8430 - invita a que todas las personas que quieran ser parte de este proceso se pongan en contacto con alguno de los nombrados en la imagen que aparece en el margen inferior derecho.
