RESPECT LIFE--"Never tire of firmly speaking out in defense of life from its conception and do not be deterred from the commitment to defend the dignity of every human person with courageous determination. Christ is with you: be not afraid." ---Address of John Paul II to the Bishops and Apostolic Administrators of Albania on their "Ad Limina" Visit, February 3, 2001 Fetal Development of Hannah Tradition teaches us Christ was conceived

on the Feast of the Annunciation. We will watch the parallel development of “Hannah” in the womb beginning on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) until December 25.

Fetal Development of Hannah December 21 (week 40) Celebrate! Hannah is born! Don’t be surprised at how Hannah looks after birth. Her head may be misshapen and the skin may be discolored with patchy looking rashes. Hannah, like all babies, is made in the image and likeness of God. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:14) Prayer for Priests by St. Therese de Lisieux O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep you priest, Fr. (name the priest), within the shelter of Your Sacred Heart, where none may touch him. Keep unstained his anointed hands, which daily touch Your Sacred Body. Keep unsullied his lips, daily purpled with Your Precious Blood. Keep pure and unearthly his heart sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood. Let Your holy love surround him and shield him from the world's contagion. Bless his labors with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom he ministers be his joy and consolation here and

in heaven his beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR PRIESTS: Sunday: Fr. David McBriar, O.F.M. Monday: Fr. Richard Doherty Tuesday: Fr. Matthew Schroeder Wednesday: Fr. Michael Spurr Thursday: Fr. John Gournas Friday: Fr. Gerald Waterman, O.F.M.,Conv. Saturday: Fr. Michael Burbeck

From the Desk of the Historian: Last week we were asked to

pray for two priests who served Transfiguration: Here is an

update on them.

Father Steven Carlson was our priest for a brief period in

1999-2000. Currently pastor of St. Patrick in Fayetteville, he

is a former US Army helicopter pilot whose service to us was

cut short when he was recalled to serve in the military. He is

an avid bicyclist and jogger.

Father Donald Staib served Transfiguration for a four month

period in 1961. He has served the Diocese in many ways in

his 53 years as a priest. In addition to being the founding

priest at St. Mary Magdalene in Apex, where he is still pastor,

he was Superintendent of Schools. Director of Planning, and

Chancellor for the Diocese. He also taught part time at UNC

Chapel Hill and NC State. For many years, he regularly taught

English and American culture to Southeast Asian refugees in

the Philippines and Vietnam.
