From the Director… Dear Parents,
Happy December! The halls are being decked, and the
anticipation of Santa is in the air. At Hope we have a few different
opportunities to give to those who are less fortunate. A flyer went
home explaining the three “Ways to Give”. Hope UMW (Hope’s
Women’s Group) has a mitten tree accepting mittens, hats,
scarves, socks and diapers. You can also donate to Extended
Hands of Hope, a local charity in Denver that helps girls and young
women who are victims of human trafficking. Finally, you can
donate new and gently used toys for the Denver Santa Shop
through December 7th.
Our Christmas Program is Wednesday, December 12th at 7pm. Our
3’s and Jr-K children will be sharing the joy of Christmas with us on
this marvelous evening!
Dimple shirts are coming back December 7th just in time for
Christmas shopping! Brooke McCready and her crew will be in the
hallways with these awesome shirts for children and adults. These
popular shirts are made to order and 10% of the proceeds on the
shirts comes back to Hope! Look for them in the hallway on the 7th.
So many thank yous…
• Thank you for supporting Hope and eating at Piccolo’s! It was
great seeing so many Hope families. We received a check for
$300 from this fun night!
• The staff enjoyed an autumn breakfast provided by Stephanie
Jurado, Colleen Chan, and Tara Terella. We are so thankful to
you for this wonderful treat for our staff…thank you!
• Thank you for supporting our Usborne Book Fair. We were
excited to offer these books to everyone, and our teachers are
thrilled to have them in their classrooms. Thank you Miss Amanda
Nelson for doing this for us!

• Thank you also for using your reloadable King Sooper cards. Our last check was for
$345.02! If you need a King Sooper card, please come and see Robyn in the office. A
card costs $5 and it already has $5 on it. It is so easy to use! You simply reload it while at
Kings and 5% of the money you spend comes back to Hope!
Noteworthy and Newsworthy…
• We ask that you please keep sick children home. If your child appears sick, we will call
you and have you come and pick them up. Thank you for helping to keep us all
healthy. If your child has been diagnosed with anything contagious, please let us know
right away! We do our best to keep everyone healthy!
• We are asking that you please not keep sunscreen and/or hand sanitizer in your child’s
tote - both of these are keep out of reach items for all children. Thank you.
• Our Christmas Break is from December 24 - January 7th. We return to school on Tuesday,
January 8th.
• Speaking of January…it will be registration time again!
Registration forms for church members are due Sunday, January 13th.
Registration for returning and alumni children is January 17th. Open registration is
January 24th. Look for more information coming right after Christmas break!!
• Enrichment will be starting back up in January, so be sure to get your forms turned in for
the spring session. Starting in December, they can be found online at
hopechangeslives.org. Students who are currently enrolled do get first priority.
• The lost and found bucket is getting full. It is by the PDO Office.
• Please remember to update us if anything changes such as a phone number, address,
or someone new picking up your child. We cannot release your child to someone who is
not on your emergency card.
• If your child goes to the doctor for their annual checkup, please get a new health form -
not just updated immunizations. The General Health Appraisal Form that the doctors’
offices have is acceptable. Our form can be found online, or you can pop into the
office and grab one. Thank you for your help with this.
Christmas is a perfect time to help children learn about the true spirit of Christmas; love, joy,
peace, giving, kindness, gratitude, and Jesus, the best gift of all! May the Lord bless you
and yours this Christmas! We hope you enjoy the magic of the season and have a very
Merry Christmas!

Nursery Rhymes In keeping with our belief that kindergarten readiness begins at birth, we will be stressing several
nursery rhymes each month. Children love Mother Goose because “she enchants the ears and
knows how to make words sound wonderful.” This is a big part of phonemic (the sounds that letters
make) awareness and is a necessary pre-reading tool. Help your children learn these rhymes and
have fun! Below are the nursery rhymes for November and December. The nursery rhymes we will
be using are taken from Mother Goose: A Treasury of Best-Loved Rhymes illustrated by Tim and Greg
Hildebrandt and edited by Watty Piper.

Snow Delay
We want to remind you of our School Closure/Snow Day Policy. If the Cherry Creek School District is
closed, then we are closed too! However, if the Cherry Creek School District is on a delayed start,
then we will start 30 minutes late, at 9:30. This change in our Snow Day Policy is due to the new start
times that were implemented in the Cherry Creek School District this year.

Language and Learning Fun Over the Holidays
Reading is the most important learning activity you can share with your child. Reading daily promotes
vocabulary, listening, pre-reading, concept development, and overall academic skills. Interactive read-
ing involves four activities while you read. This simple process will increase your child’s love for reading!
First, prediction of the story - Look at the cover of the book and guess what you think the story is about.
Read the title and guess again.
Second, receptive vocabulary - Ask your child to point to pictures throughout the book.
Third, expressive vocabulary - Ask your child to name the pictures you point to throughout the book.
Fourth, comprehension of the story - Ask your child if your prediction was correct. Ask a question about
the story.
Reading is also a great time for your child to hear the correct way to pronounce sounds within words.
They may not have the tools to correctly pronounce the word however; you should repeat the word cor-
rectly. Stretch out the beginning sound you want your child to hear.
Cooking is also a great time to expand your child’s language and academic skills. Measur-
ing, pouring, and mixing combine fun activities and learning all in one. Your child learns a
variety of concepts, action words, and math concepts all in one activity.
Getting enough sleep Q: My son has a hard time falling asleep at
night. How can I make it easier for him?
A: Getting enough sleep - 10 to 12 hours a night
- will help your son grow, stay healthy, and do
well in school. First, have him stick to a nightly
bedtime routine. Your son might take a bath,
brush his teeth, and listen to a story, for instance.
Repeating the routine each night helps him rec-
ognize it’s time for sleep. Also, research shows
that watching TV or playing video games close
to bedtime can get kids wound up and keep
them from sleeping. If he uses electronics, have
him turn them off at least an hour before bed-
time. Finally, encourage the rest of the family to
read or do other quiet activities after he says
good night. Your son may have an easier time
going to bed - and staying there - if he doesn’t
feel like he’s missing out on the fun.
“I love my school!” Encourage your youngster to have a positive
attitude toward school with these suggestions:
• Let him hear you say good things about his
teacher and his school. Example: “Mrs.
Jackson always has such fun projects for
your class to do.”
• Attend special events as part of your fami-
ly’s routine. Going to class parties and on
field trips helps your child see school as an
important part of his life.
• Volunteer when you can. You might help
with school carnivals, book-fairs, and fund
raisers if you have time. If your schedule is
tight, look for quick ways to show your sup-
port, like saving magazines for class projects
or sending in fruit for a snack.
