Solahart Australia ran another successful National Conference in August which really helped unite the team and chart the course for the rest of this year and into 2016. Enthusiasm was high amongst delegates and there was a general feeling that the solar revolution is once again gaining momentum. The theme Rising to the Challenge was about harnessing this shift in momentum. Topics covered included Commercial Solar Hot Water and Commercial PV where we launched Solahart PV systems up to 30 kW to capitalise on this growing market. We shared some valuable consumer insights gained from a Solahart survey we conducted in July to learn more about behaviours and attitudes and to gauge the strength of our brand. As expected, the number one concern was high energy costs, which is still the main reason people want to go solar. The research told us that our brand is the clear leader in solar hot water. However because the PV market is so fragmented no brand really stood out. This is where the opportunity lies for Solahart. Much of the conference was about manufacturing and R&D investment with so much capital and human resource going into these areas. Exciting News - Solahart announces collaboration with Tesla EnergyAustralian solar expert Solahart has joined forces with US energy storage pioneer Tesla Energy, and from early 2016 will be offering Australian households a one stop shop for all their renewable energy needs.

The collaboration will see Solahart, already one of Australia’s leading renewable energy solution innovators, become a Tesla Energy Authorised Reseller. The revolutionary Tesla Powerwall will be added to Solahart’s already extensive renewable energy range, with installations expected to commence in February/March 2016.

The Solahart offer will allow Tesla Powerwall batteries to be retrofitted to existing photovoltaic systems, or sold as part of an integrated solution when paired with a new PV system.

“This is a natural fit and makes perfect sense, for Solahart,” says Stephen Cranch, Solahart’s GM Sales and Marketing Renewables.

“We’re not new to renewable energy. Indeed, Solahart has an unsurpassed reputation for solar excellence spanning more than 60 years, and we are committed to providing the best products and advice to local homeowners. We also have an extensive installation capability throughout Australia, which was obviously a key consideration for Tesla in identifying preferred resellers.”

Solahart has been operating in the solar sector since 1953. It has manufactured over one-million solar hot water systems, which have been installed in 80 countries on every continent. In 2010 it made the move into PV, with Solahart systems now installed on thousands of Australian roofs.

“We have witnessed myriad changes in the solar industry in Australia and we anticipate significant changes in the

country’s energy market and how consumers perceive and take up renewable energy,” says Cranch.

“We believe the introduction of the Tesla Powerwall battery in Australia will be a game changer, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of this exciting new phase.

Product quality has always been a major point of difference for Solahart, and we are very selective about whose products we sell. Our Research and Development team thoroughly tests everything – and the Powerwall is no exception. We currently have the Tesla Powerwall in our test lab and have been conducting general battery storage testing for some time.

“Solahart’s experienced dealers and accredited installers are also well positioned to provide advice on the benefits of the Powerwall battery and the other renewable energy solutions we offer that help householders and businesses to reduce their energy bills and their impact on the environment. They are skilled in understanding the specific needs of consumers and tailoring solutions to suit those needs, so being able to now add the Tesla Powerwall to our comprehensive product suite will greatly benefit householders.

“We expect our prices for the Powerwall will be competitive with what is being offered by others in the market – and we can offer a holistic solution should that be required.”

Cranch says the Tesla Powerwall battery will also fit strategically with Solahart’s future direction. “This exciting announcement is just the first of many that we’ll be making in the near future, as we develop a comprehensive range of integrated products that will assist consumers in dealing with the rapidly changing Australian energy landscape.”

03HaRTbeat TeStiMOnialsAs we’ve discussed in previous editions of Hartbeat, customer testimonials are a proven and powerful form of communication and we’ve been keen to have more in our armoury for quite a while. In November this year, after a nationwide search, we met with a selection of happy Solahart customers and captured their stories. The resulting short films will be placed on our new website. Here are a few of the customers we visited.

18 months ago, the Footer family installed a Solahart Solar Hot Water system onto the roof of their home. Crucial to their decision were the high levels of integrity and professionalism displayed by their local Solahart dealer in initial discussions. The couple was so impressed they decided it was worth investing in a brand they could trust and that had a proven record in customer service.

The Brookers, Tenambit, NSW

Graham and Bev Brooker are true Solahart fans. In 1978 they installed a 302L Solahart Solar Water heater on their rooftop which amazingly, after 37 years, has only just stopped working. Without a moment’s hesitation, Graham and Bev called Solahart who installed a brand new system just two days later. Due to its superior performance, the new system is already giving Graham and Bev greater efficiency and even greater savings.

The MS Sydney to the Gong Ride is Australia’s most respected and spectacular one-day community bike ride, and it was held on Sunday 1st

November 2015.

Since its inception, the ride has become a Sydney cycling tradition famous for its atmosphere, spectacular scenery through Royal National Park

This year 10,000 cyclists commenced from either St. Peters (to complete a 90 km long course) or Engadine (with a shorter 58 km course) and finished at WA Lang Park in Wollongong.

This year Solahart supported the Wentworth Point Cycle Club by supplying the teams lycra outfit – the team pictured on the left include Barry Barnett, National Technical Helpline Manager, and Anthea Knowles, Group Manager Quality Assurance.

The Wentworth Point team completed the 90 km course plus raised in excess of $2,500 for the MS Foundation – a few also beating their previous personal best times for the event.

Congratulations to the Team!

Solahart gets the Gong

and Ocean Road as well as the generosity of its riders and volunteers.

Since 1981, hundreds of thousands of cyclists have taken the challenge of riding to Wollongong and raised over $33 million dollars to support people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Dealer Principals Tony and Macca decided that they would target the builder market a few years back. After plenty of hard work and site visits, the team’s efforts and dedication is paying dividends. Not only does Solahart Port Macquarie get extra buying power from the local plumbing suppliers who are keen to get their business, but their builder work has also generated a constant stream of installation work and 5 year services.

The high penetration of solar hot water is now also creating potential solar power customers as residents settle into their homes and realise the savings they make from their Solahart Solar Water heater.

All this hard work has paid off for Solahart Port Macquarie who took out the NSW Dealer of the Year award at the recent Solahart Conference.

The annual AGQUIP Field Days in August has always been a good source of leads for the local Solahart Dealers who have been attending the event for many years. This year, Lachlan and Will from Solahart Tamworth went all out taking two sites and setting up an eye catching Solahart display. The results were fantastic with record numbers of appointments booked over the three days.

The Sustainable Living Festival in Coffs Harbour has always been one of those events that Dealer Principals Cindy and Steve know that they have to be seen at – but often came away empty handed.

That all changed this year as the one day festival saw record patrons coming through the gates and most importantly the Coffs Harbour Team managed to take a record number of enquiries in both solar hot water and solar power proving that perseverance pays off.

Solahart Central West packed its gear and hit the towns of Parkes, Condobolin and Nyngan collecting customer testimonials for their Facebook page and presenting solar forums to small groups.

Whilst the numbers in each town where slightly down on expectations, the quality of the leads generated surpassed expectations. Featuring in the Condobolin newspaper and a radio interview, they managed to get a few sales and also a Commercial PV quote. Not to mention the great opportunity to visit iconic ‘cultural’ sites like the big Bogan in Nyngan.

Since July 2015, the challenge of turning around the Solahart business in Canberra has been taken on by Grant Hanslow and Leonie Stewart and the initial signs are very positive.

Grant, fresh from a commercial air-conditioning background, has embraced the retail solar market and sees great opportunity growing the solar penetration in commercial property around Canberra.

Leonie has experience running her own small business prior to taking on the Solahart challenge and focuses her time on the all-important customer service and administrative functions of the dealership.

Canberra has always presented some interesting opportunities as Grant has found out. He recently shipped a Solahart Solar Hot Water unit for the New Zealand High Commission to Tarawa, a small atoll 4,500 km north-east of Sydney in the Pacific Ocean.

Winter, spring, summer or autumn – Solahart provides you with reliable hot water, even when it’s snowing.

This is how it was on July 17th this year when a wintry blast from the south struck without warning sending shivers through the unsuspecting QLD population……….never fear, Solahart is here.

Thanks to Rob Fluerty from Solahart Brisbane South for sending us this great shot.

After 31 years, John Jackson of Mt Gravatt decided to upgrade from his old Solahart to a new one.

During the 31 years he had the system, he never experienced any issues with it, so the decision was easy. Mr Jackson made special comments regarding how the local Dealer, Rhys Lowis’ professionalism and willingness to help with finance had made for a first class buying experience. John also made a point of showing Rhys his original 302L brochure as well as a Ben Lexcen document highlighting the features and benefits of a Solahart.

Rod Heathcote is well known for his love of all things fast, that’s why he is nicknamed ‘Hot-Rod’ (at least that’s what Teri, his wife, calls him!)

Rod recently had the opportunity to sponsor a young race car prodigy Tom Turner, who like many future aspiring race car drivers, started up with Go-Karts.

Like so many young Australians, it’s very difficult to maintain and support their passion so that they have the opportunity to represent their country in years to come. That’s why Rod and Teri are so passionate when it comes to being involved with the community and helping where they can. Solahart Townsville’s sponsorship of $2,000 can go a long way to help Tom. The Turner family were extremely grateful for Rod’s and Solahart’s support.

Craig Hamilton from our Brisbane South East dealership set up camp at the Redlands Festival in early September.

This was Craig’s 3rd event and with 10 leads and 4 sales, the nearby residents showed once again how they really like to support local businesses.

Well done Craig!

Malcolm Davison from our Darling Downs Dealership, loves his Home Shows.

Not only does he do a great job with his local event but he also goes a step further and helps out his Brisbane neighbour dealers at their own Home Shows.

This time around Malcolm was really happy with the 30 leads captured during the event, with many of them being quality SHW and PV leads, topped off with a few service jobs.

Malcolm says that the rewards aren’t just during a Home Show, but that he and the team get plenty of momentum long after the event is over.

In mid-July this year, Gold Coast Dealer, Daniel Kelly, braved some wintry conditions at a local outdoor weekend event.

This was Daniel’s first real crack at doing this type of event, so he wasn’t sure of what to expect.

It goes to show that with a great brand, a great targeted sales approach, and a fantastic offer, you can surpass your wildest expectations. The result was outstanding with more than 30 leads over the 2 days!

Suffice to say Daniel is planning to book more local lead generation events throughout the year.

Solahart Cannington has relocated premises after 22 years.

Current owners since 2008, Matt and Dana Lyon have made the tough decision to move from Cannington to nearby Canning Vale.

There was a lot to weigh up moving from prime retail position to a commercial location tucked away from any passing traffic.

But in the end, having business premises with a much larger, more usable warehouse space plus an indoor-outdoor showroom, made the decision an easy one.

One of Solahart Mile End’s customers recently called to book another 5 year service on his Solahart 302L.

When the customer, Mr Vinall from Hazelwood Park, requested a check on his service history, the following was discovered:

Feb 1985 – installed 302L

Feb 1990 – 5 yr service

Jan 1995 – 5 yr service

Nov 1999 – 5 yr service

Sep 2004 – 5 yr service

May 2010 – 5 yr service

It appears the system has been installed for 30 years now and is still going strong.

The dealership has no record of repairing or replacing any parts, other than an anode change every 5 years.

In January 23, 1978, Sweden was the first country in the world to recognise the effect of aerosol sprays on the Ozone Layer and banned their sale. In November that same year, Solahart produced a 300L Solar Water Heater, with serial number 26733 which was later sold to a couple in Elizabeth Vale and their family of four.

Fast forward to June 2015 – 37 years later – and CFC aerosol sprays are a thing of the past. And, whilst the house has changed hands, unit 26733 is still working!

It was during a routine 5 year service this year that Solahart Mile End noticed a small leak and the decision was made to retire it from service. The new owners of house continue to enjoy ‘hot water free from the sun’, from their new 302L Solahart.

Hot water free from the African sunTeal & Green, the newly appointed Solahart Distributor for South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland, put together their first Sales, Marketing and Technical Conference since they took over the rights to distribute Solahart systems back in Feb 2015.

The Conference was well attended with dealers travelling from Lesotho, Swaziland and Cape Town as well as invited guests from Botswana and Mozambique.

Rolff van der Linden was awarded the Distinguished Dealer’s Award for 30 years service to the Solahart brand. Rolff would be one of the world’s longest serving dealers who has worked with a National Distributor to promote and sell Solahart products.

The Dealer of the year for 2015 was awarded to Brandon Harding from E-Motion Consulting from the Midrand/Pretoria area.

The Most Progressive Dealer Award went to Solar Perfection from the East Rand. Unfortunately Johan

was not able to receive his trophy personally due to ill health.

Vince Scrooby introduced himself and the Teal & Green Group who have taken on the daunting task of driving Solahart forward in a volatile market.

Vince has been supported by fellow Directors Ray Fernandez, who is responsible for Domestic Sales and Marketing and Chris Elliott, who looks after Commercial Sales and Technical Services.

Congratulations go to both Ray and Chris for their great effort in building the Solahart Brand in South Africa. On behalf of Solahart Industries we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ray and L’Oreal on the birth of their first “Ray of Sunshine” with many more to follow in the future.

Vaughan Boultwood (left) and Rolff van der Linden (right) Supporting the Desert Dash Namibia 2015

In early December, a team from Solahart/NEC participated in the annual Desert Dash Namibia 2015. The event, now in its 12th year, is a gruelling 24 hour, 369km mountain bike race on dirt, sand, and graded gravel roads between the Namibian capital city, Windhoek, and the coastal town of Swakopmund on the wild Atlantic coast. There are three categories you can enter. Solo, a 2 man team, or a 4 man team. This year, Solahart/NEC entered two teams, both wearing Solahart branded jerseys and spreading our message of energy free from the sun as we struggled under the intense Namibian sun. The teams representing Solahart/NEC were:

Team 1 Solahart / NEC Niko Brueckner & Ecki Freyer

Team 2 Solahart / NEC Andreas Brueckner & Andrew Corbert

Well done to all four gentlemen for completing the ride within the allotted time. No mean feat, indeed! Niko and Ecki finished in 20hrs 45 minutes while Andreas and Andrew finished in the commendable time of 21hrs 50 minutes. We hope you all get a good rest over Christmas.

Jim Sebastian, Managing Director for Ecoval Trading LLC, conducted a seminar on Solar Water Heating and the new Solahart Heat Store System for CIBSE (The Chartered Institution of Building Solution Service Engineers).

CIBSE’s guidelines for the seminar presentation were very simple in the sense that the seminar should be purely technically oriented. The response was very good with more than 65 decision makers in attendance.

It was very important to highlight that the main thrust of the technical presentation was the flexibility in design to our new

commercial solar water heating solution. Nic Byczynski, Head of Mechanics, Arcadis- Hyder, spoke for a few minutes about the New York University campus in Abu Dhabi and how it was a great success having Solahart’s ‘Drain Back’ technology installed on this project.

Ecoval ensured that all attendees were provided presentation packs and after the presentation, a special Italian themed dinner was provided.

At the conclusion of the presentation and dinner, Jim thanked the participants and a mystery draw was made from the

selection of business cards of invitees. The gift, a set of Bose Bluetooth Speakers, was well received.

Our distributor, Ecoval, is well aware of the need to educate local companies and engineers in all aspects of renewable energy and that Solahart has a range of high quality cost effective solar solutions.

It is planned to hold a larger seminar in January 2016 in Abu Dhabi again, open to VIP guests of CIBSE.

Solahart/Accent Air have combined to provide energy efficient solutions in Sri Lanka.

Solahart has been successful in establishing a large solar market in Sri Lanka, over the past 30 years.

Since the end of the civil war in 2009, Sri Lanka has seen the emergence of the commercial market with the construction of many new hotels and resorts. Solahart has been working closely with Alpha Thermal (Solahart

During the month of October, Alpha Thermal successfully hosted a seminar for the local consultants and architects which was attended by all the top players within the industry. The seminar was held to demonstrate the abilities of Accent Air and Solahart to provide large scale commercial solutions. Showcasing projects such as The Sydney Opera House 4 star green building award and large hotel projects in Macau.

To demonstrate the continued support and development to the market, both James Browne (Solahart Manager) and Mark Crowther (Accent Air) were welcomed to the seminar as speakers by Kushan Jayasuriya (Alpha Thermal).

The Lyons, Bradbury, NSW

Savings and sustainability were the two main attractions of going solar for the Lyons. The couple runs a family day care centre from home and were looking to cut energy bills and create a “greener” lifestyle. They recently installed both Solahart Solar Hot Water and Solar Power and already can see a massive difference in their bills. Mr Lyons noted that he actually now looked forward to the arrival of an energy bill to see how little it was!

The Finnegans, Capalaba, QLD

For the Finnegans, the choice of going solar was one way they could make a contribution to the issue of global warming. 10 years ago they installed a Solahart Solar Hot Water system and less than a year ago, they installed Solahart Solar Power. Already the new system has resulted in a 75% reduction in their energy bills and the Finnegans believe the unit will pay for itself in around 3.5 years. And all while doing their bit for the environment!
