BOARD NEWS

We continue to thank each andeveryone for their ongoing support andprayers. Thank you to everyone who

came out to the recent Fall membership Meeting in November. Wewere blessed by the words from speaker Dorothy Vaandering Ph.D.and encouraging reports from the various committees.• The board has been thinking about board vacancies for the

following school year, and starting the process of the search for anew principal for the 16/17 school year.

• The board has asked the Finance committee for look into alternatetuition structures.

• The board is working on updating the constitution.

Brrr! It is a very wintry, cold daytoday and it is only November as I writethis report. This morning we had tomake a decision whether or not to runthe buses. We did and thankfullyeveryone has arrived safely at schoolagain. Students are already buildingsnow forts and snow people; everyone isbundling up to enjoy another greatwinter in Ontario!

On a recent Saturday morning, thevice chair of the school board, SteveHaagsma and I attended an OntarioAlliance of Christian Schools (OACS)Annual Meeting and Conference. Thekey note speaker was Dr. Derek Allison,Professor Emeritus from the Faculty ofEducation at Western University whotalked about another 'chill… cold…brrr!': the chill of attitudes the publicsector holds towards independent and/orprivate schools. In his address "Towardsa Warmer Climate for Ontario's PrivateSchools," he provided some statistics onOntario private schools, and thendeveloped two key messages that couldpossible bring a warmer relationshipwith the public sector. Private Schools(including Christian schools) areencouraged to promote the ideals ofalternative schools, using the acronymAURA.

A - Awareness, U - UnderstandingR - RespectA - Acceptance.

His second message for us was thatwe need to politely, persistently push forsmall reform rather than engage in hugeissues that will only increase the chill. The OACS is busy planning futureinitiatives that will develop positiverelationships that could bring oppor-tunities for us to work alongside publicschools. Let's pray that we can buildbridges with our neighbours in ourcommunities.

God has placed WCS in a warmWoodstock community setting - when Iwear my Woodstock Christian Schoolspirit shirt or jacket to the grocery storeor local restaurant, I inevitably getpositive comments about the schoolfrom fellow shoppers or employees.Visitors to the school feel an acceptanceand welcome when they come throughthe front door. Monthly school chapelsare led by pastors in our community andthey bless us with prayers and encourageus in our passion to bring God's light tothe city. The school choirs are soughtafter to sing in local venues and they liftspirits wherever they go with theirmusic. Opportunities to participate inlocal art shows - art pieces entered atCaressant Care Nursing Home's artexhibition, and in poster/literary contests- entries for the Legion's RemembranceDay contest this month, bring hope todark situations. The Once Again ThriftStore is open again in downtownWoodstock and customers andvolunteers alike are so thankful for thisbeacon of light in Woodstock - a space

where customers are welcomed warmlyby staff, where they can purchaseclothing, housewares and furniture forreasonable prices, and where they canjust 'sit for a spell'.

Students and staff are so pleased tooffer our community a gift of hope andlight through the upcoming playpresentation "The Lion, the Witch andthe Wardrobe", a heroic tale of love, faith, courage and giving based on thefirst book of the classic Narnia series byC.S. Lewis. The Land of Narnia inwhich it is "...always winter but neverChristmas" through the rule of theWicked White Witch is transformedwhen a prophecy about two daughters ofEve and two sons of Adam appearingcomes true and when the King, theMighty Aslan returns. Spring, awarming up of the land, returns toNarnia. Please come to hear and see thisstory which parallels the greatest storyever told - the coming of our Saviour,Jesus Christ!

It is winter in Canada, sometimescold and stormy but a beautiful seasonto celebrate and enjoy because we dohave Christmas. This GloriousImpossible - the birth of Jesus - cannotbe explained, it can only be rejoiced in.When the shepherds saw the bright lightfrom heaven on that cold night, heardthe announcement of Jesus' birth andlistened to the song the angels sang,"Glory to God in the Highest" theywitnessed and began to understand thatthe Whole Earth is filled with HisGlory! This Christmas may we also seeand understand the warmth of God'slove, standing in awe of the reality that"God is with us!"

GRADE 2 – MRS. ERICA SCHUSTER

Now that the season of Advent is upon us, we have begun to talk about the Christmas story in class. We are, and always will be, in awe of the amazing gift that God gave us in the form of baby Jesus. The story that led up to the birth, being born in a stable, and the visits from people from verydifferent walks of life are all part of that Holy night many years ago. Students were challenged tosee this story from a different point of view, the view of one of the people or animals that werethere. The following are some of their stories. Some students chose to write about what Christmasmeans to them. As we get closer to the date where we remember and praise God for His gift, weencourage you to think of the true meaning of Christmas, and see the glory of God shine.

Joseph had a dream. He dreamed thatMary was going to have a baby. They wentto Bethlehem. The king of Judea was mad.He thought Jesus was taking his place asking. The donkey said "Jesus is a specialBaby. He slept in a manger. Animals arewatching baby Jesus. God loves Jesus andJesus loves God.”

Christmas Journey'Hi, I am Gabriel and I am going to tell youa story. On a snowy day, Mary talked toGod… and God said, "You are special"Mary said, "Why… why am I special?" Godsaid, "You are the mom of my son, babyJesus. You will marry Joseph." Then theangel disappeared. Poof! The next dayJoseph went to Mary and said "Will youmarry me." "Yes I will." said Mary. The nextday Mary was pregnant and everybody hadto go to Bethlehem so they went. Crunch...Crunch…Crunch... They went toBethlehem. Then they found a donkey.Mary rode on it for the rest of the journey tofind a place to stay. But there was not aninn to stay in. So they stayed in a barn. Itwasn't the place to stay forever, but it wascozy and dry. That night, Jesus was born, and Joseph made a bed for him. He sleptwell. And that is the story of Christmas.

Shh! Quiet Baby JesusOne night the silence was broken by acrying sound. "Shhh" said Mary, babyJesus was crying. "Nice going cat," donkeysnapped as the wise men and shepherdswere trying to comfort the baby. Theanimals were quiet although cat anddonkey were having a little fight. "It wasn'tmy fault" said the cat. "Is so." "Is not." "Isso!" "Is not!" (you get the idea). Then Jesusstopped crying. Mary yawned and said itwas time for bed, then everyone went tobed. Except cat, she was sitting by thewindow. "Sigh" she said. Oh how shewished she was free. Her master alwayskeeps her locked up in a cage and neverlets her out. Although her sister never getslocked up in a cage, then she went to bedwith a sigh. When cat woke up she ranaway to Egypt. And never came back untilher master died. And from then on theanimals were happy. Let us rejoice for theking has come to earth! Let us praise him.

"Hello. My name is Ephroe. I am awise-man. I am the head of three wisemen. I am about to tell the story of a newand very important king. Us three wise menwere studying the stars when all of asudden I spotted a new star. It was newalright. I could tell because it was thebiggest star I had ever seen. It also had themost points of all the thousands of stars Ihad ever seen. This star was also abeautiful golden colour. I told the other wisemen about the star. I told them come andsee come and see the new star I found. Ofcourse they came and saw the star. I toldthem it might be a symbol of a new king. The others agreed. Indeed it was. Theother wise men, Ocrooth and Pinnitchtakayset off, so did I. I set off in front of both. Incase you forgot, my name is Ephroe. Wewill take a break and I will introduce usthree. Us wisemen wear shoes made ofgold. We do not wear crowns. Now back tothe story. We got all mixed up withdirections. I sure hope to invent somethingcalled a map. After a talk with a King, it wastime we had to think of a good solution. Wecame up with a bad destination. We thenwent to Bethlehem. We met up with afamily. The family's father was Estcroo.Estcroo was the brother of Ocrooth. Thefamily's mother was Reothrae. The brothersof the family were Ryan and the sisters inthe family were Ruth and Mary. I wassurprised to be going to a house becausekings are normally born in palaces. So aftera few minutes, we continued to follow thestar. We followed the star for a little moretime. I was surprised that it was an animalstable. I thought that the place where thisking was being born would be a palace. Butwe went into the animal stable. We had lotsof money so we brought costly presents. We brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh. We had come to an unlikely place for a kingto be born. We had to go back to our homein the East. We live in East Persia. Persiais a big country. We live near the sea.Wisemen know stars and most of the starsare by the sea. So we kept on travelling. We did not go back to Jerusalem. We didnot go back the same way because theking had lied to us. Then when we reachedhome, it was late.

GRADE 6/7A – MR. GREG HIEMSTRA — Out of this World

Have you heard? The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is coming to Woodstock Christian School the secondweek of December. This will be a fantastical time!

Have you seen the lights, and heard the music? This is the time of year that we ponder the real meaning of Christmas, thetime that Jesus came down to this world in human form, to save humankind. "For God so loved the world that he gave his oneand only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

Have you walked the halls of Woodstock Christian School lately? Have you seen strange creatures greet your entrance?Grade 6/7 have created their own fantasy worlds and "creatures" of those worlds. Students have written short stories where landswere discovered, and problems overcome. Here are some pictures of their creatures and excerpts of their stories: (Notice thecreativeness of the students, mirroring their Creative God.)

On my way home I took a shortcut through Smith's Pond. It was abeautiful park with lovely gardens full of colour, and in the centre,a deep blue pond. I've never been here during the winter! It wasawesome. It was the perfect opportunity. All this untouched snow I could buildan amazing snow fort. I dropped my hockey bag and started to digtunnels. But just when was completely hidden in the hole I saw something.I didn't know what it was; it looked rusty, or maybe bronze; but asI dug it out and looked at it I realized it was a key. It appeared to bean old rusty key. But this one still had a small golden shine to it.Well I did what any other kid would do and grabbed it, when all ofa sudden all of the snow crashed down on my back, so I pushedand I pushed and when I popped my head out I was definitely notat Smith's Pond anymore…

(By Daytn from a story called "The Land of Aprax")

You think that that day would be usual. But it was nothing of thesort. That day was a Thursday, if I remember correctly. The treeswere swaying, and all was quiet except for the occasional car. Ihad decided on going out for lunch, so I hopped on my bike andsped off to Ingersoll. I decided on a sub and went to a table outsideto eat. I was thinking about another bite when it was gone. I wishedI had a magical bike with a motor, because I was full and bikinghome can be a terror. But I still mounted my ten-speed and biked off to the house I livedin at the time. It was becoming windier and windier, so windy Ialmost fell off my bike. I had reached Ebenezer Road intersectionwhen I had been sucked up from something like a vacuum, Isuppose…

Ranulph was a strange place; it had strange people, strangelandscapes, and a strange sweet and sour kind of smell. Besides that,Ranulph was very much like earth. "Welcome to my home," Jaspersaid. It was quite obvious we were in the downtown; there were lots of otherGytons of all shapes and sizes. Some had pink spots, others had bluestripes, and some even had a small amount of green, orange, purple, and blue fur. But all of them had a long mouth and nose, orange feet, two little ears and mismatched eyes...(By Adrienne from a story called "How the Gytons got Back Home")

The girls spun around, and to their surprise there was a creature! Hewas tall and strong. He had feathers that looked like leaves and wingsso poofy and white, they were beautiful. He had stick straight legs asit seemed. His tail was silver and came out into three separate parts. He had a huge beak. Then the creature spoke…

(By Marisa & Amy from a story called "Saving the World!")

On Friday, October 10, Ryan and Justin were writing a story for Mr.Hiemstra. They were really bored and they wanted to dosomething fun by throwing pencils around. They both reached intotheir desk and they suddenly they were in another world. Theywere kind of confused. They they walked for miles and miles andmiles until they felt serious hunger pains. They then met a short, skinny, and many coloured piece of wood, with ears like giantsticks with a point at the top and feet like footballs with one point, eyes like perfect cylinder with different coloured rings.
