Message from the President continuedDue to unforeseen circumstances, our VP of Education has had to step down. Please take this opportunity to consider stepping in and serving your Chapter in this capacity. Contact me or one of our Board Members for details if you are interested.

Save the date! Celebration Gala- We received a positive response to the survey to celebrate being a part of this professional community for 50 years and will hold a Gala March 21, 2014. More details to follow.

We are proud to announce the Chapter is once again the recipient of the Gold Graalman Award for the Chapter year July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. We received notification from National on November 4, 2013. The Graalman Award is recognized throughout the profession for three main areas of achievement:

• Provide Value to Members • Connect NCMA and Members • Effective Chapter Operations

The December Dinner Meeting features “Why is security so hard … and what can we do about it?” presented by Dr. Richard Ford. Remember, at each meeting there is an opportunity to walk away with a “free dinner” to a future meeting as this is one of the door prizes!

Sincere thanks for your continued effort and support in the first quarter of the year. I look forward to seeing many more of you in the next few months.

Happy Holidays!

Dr. Richard Ford is the Co-Director for the Harris Institute for Assured Information at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Understanding cyber security is an important part of contract management. What cyber threats should a contract manager be aware of? How can these threats impact a project? In this talk, an overview of the current state of the art in security is provided. Is insecurity inevitable? Why is cyber security apparently so very difficult? Finally, can the risks associated with insecurity be managed in a practical way?
