** In each of the first three degrees of Freemasonry, the candidate expresses a desire for light. But once he has been raised, we tend to leave him to his own devices. Those true seekers will find the Royal Arch degrees to be the best “first step” on the path to more light in Masonry.
The six Royal Arch degrees are intimately related to the first three degrees in Masonry. They detail the story of the completion, dedication, destruction, and rebuilding of King Solomon's Temple including the recovery of the lost secrets.
The Royal Arch Degree completes the Blue Lodge Mason's basic instruction and prepares him for a lifetime of seeking light. In Virginia our ancient Constitution of Masonry (Chapter 3, Sec-tion 4, Number 7) states, “to exercise all degrees of the Ancient Craft, and consequently the Royal Arch.” This clearly shows the
intimate connection between the Blue Lodge and the Royal Arch from ancient times. For more information or to obtain a petition, please contact me at [email protected]
If you have already taken the path in the Royal Arch but not yet
considered The Knights Templars, please ask me about this won-
derful Christian Masonic Organization!!!

Gigi Costis, Grand Worthy Advisor of Virginia My charity is Give‐Kids‐the‐World Village in Kissimmee Florida. Here is the full write up I have about my charity, and the reason behind my choosing it. This year I am serving as the Grand Worthy Advisor of Virginia. As Grand Worthy Advisor, I choose my fundraisers, ser-vice, and charity projects, but to understand my charity you have to understand a little about me. As some of you know, I have a brother. Matthew Thomas Costis was born 18 months be-fore I was and was the best big brother a girl could ask for. When we were little, Matthew treated me like a princess. He was an amazing little boy, competitive, funny, and imaginative, an amazing soccer player, and above all, my hero. As a child, I truly believed that Matthew was invincible. That is until he disappeared to the hospital with my parents one day in 2008. Matthew was 8 years old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Stage 4, terminal. Sud-denly the fairytale we had been living in was falling apart. I stopped being a princess, and he stopped being invincible. Matthew was no longer Matthew; he was the little boy with cancer. Our “normal” life was over, and I could not for the life of me figure out why. I didn’t even know what cancer was, all I knew was my brother, my best friend, my hero, was dying, and I couldn’t do anything about it. There are many parts of this term that have been inspired by my childhood, and Matthew, but nothing more so than our Charity project. As I stated before, my family was distraught when Matthew was sick, it was hard for us to do anything. When every day is full of chemotherapy, surgeries, doctor visits, and pills, it’s hard to focus on anything more than just surviving. There was one time however, one week that my family was able to do more than just survive. One week of normalcy, one week of fun, one week where I was a princess, and Matthew was invincible again. That was the week that my family was sent to Give‐Kids‐The‐World Village. Give Kids the World is a magical place just out-side of Disney world, where Make‐a‐wish and organization like it, send children who are too sick to stay at a Disney resort. Give Kids the World Village takes in families for one week, for a completely free vacation. They provide a magical experience for terminally ill children. Everything in the park is handicap accessible. They have Disney characters come to the vil-lage to visit the children that are too sick to make it to Disney parks. At Give Kids the World every family is treated with respect and kindness. Every child gets to be normal. When my family was sent to give kids the world village, we had the most amazing experiences. We were able to meet Disney characters during the day and explore the storybook village. At night we were brought hot food, and a volunteer named the “wish fairy” would bring gifts for Matthew and me. At the end of every child’s visit to Give Kids the World a star is placed in the Castle of Miracles. They are just small mirrors cut into the star shape with the name of the sick child engraved on them. They are in the castle to symbolize hope. Hope for a cure, hope for a miracle, and to give hope to the children who see them and know that they are not alone in their illness. Matthews star is placed in a constellation in the castle of miracles. Mat-thew died shortly after our trip to Give Kids the World, and the last memories I have of him are from that trip. This year we will be raising money for Give Kids the World. They are completely non‐profit, everyone who works there is a volunteer, and they rely completely on donations to do what they do. We are trying to raise $9000 this year, enough money this year to send one family to Give‐Kids‐ the World for a week. It’s a lot of work, but I know that to-gether we can raise enough money to give a family just like mine a chance to have a happy, normal, amazing week.
