next Sunday’s hospitality or call the rectory.

St. Ann’s Parish 3rd Sunday of Advent December 13, 2015

This Monday, December 14th, the Archdiocese of New York celebrates Reconciliation Monday.

Every parish in the Archdiocese of New York will hold confessions from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. This is

especially significant now that we have begun our Year of Mercy. We cannot know God’s mercy until we

acknowledge our need for it, meaning, we acknowledge that we have sinned and are not as blameless in the

eyes of the Lord that we know we need to be. Admitting our sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation is not

meant to be a time for putting a sinner down, but precisely the opposite: for lifting a sinner up! There is no

finer feeling in life than the feeling of God’s merciful forgiveness, so don’t deny yourself this wonderful

gift. If it’s been a long time since you’ve been to confession, don’t worry! Just tell the priest so and he will

help you. Believe me, it makes our day when we have someone come into confession who has not done so

for many years. Now is a perfect time to feel God’s forgiveness, no matter how serious your sins are. If

you are afraid that the priest will yell at you, I PROMISE YOU that would never happen at St. Ann’s!

Nothing you have to confess will shock us. Be assured, we’ve heard it all before! Some people have said

they don’t know how to go in this “new way” of going to confession. What “new way”? Nothing has

changed except that you may choose to sit in front of the priest and go face to face if you so desire. There

is still the screen to kneel before if you wish to go anonymously. The only change here at St. Ann’s is that

the confessional is no longer dark and stifling, but lit and airy. If you’ve forgotten the Act of Contrition,

don’t worry! It is posted on the wall by the screen or the chair. So you see, there is no excuse and nothing

to fear. Come and confess your sins to Jesus through His priests and let Him lift you up in His mercy.

Christmas Party

The Father DiFalco Council Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Pot Luck Parish Christmas Party on

Saturday night December 19th at 6:30pm at St. Ann’s School gym. Price of admission is a traditional dish

that serves 6-10 people and $10 per family. Join us for a night of Christmas cheer including Christmas

carols performed by our choir. Please RSVP by Friday, December 11, 2015 by filling out your reservation

sheet included in this week’s bulletin. Let’s celebrate Christmas together as a parish!

NEW YEAR’S EVE New Year’s Eve will be here before you know it! Plan to spend your New Year’s Eve at St. Ann’s at our

second annual Gala New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance. Many people have lamented to me that, with the

casual attire that is so common today, there are few occasions left to get all dolled up. Well, here is one for

you! Our semi-formal attire and 18-and-over age limit gives us an opportunity to

celebrate as adults, and gives couples with young children a much needed “mommy

-and-daddy’s date night.” But for those who cannot get a babysitter and would still

like to come, we will be arranging free babysitting service and a little party for the

children in the school cafeteria while we party in the gym. Just tell us when you call

to register that you have children for the party. For $35 a head and free babysitting

if needed, it’s the best deal in town! See you New Year’s Eve at St. Ann’s!
