In order to participate fully, please, no food or drink in the sanctuary, and remember to silence your cell phones and electronics before the start of the service. Thank you! Processional Hymn: This text and this tune occur in almost all English-language hymnals (though not always together). The transforming power of love motivates the unending praise of the life to come, and this fine Welsh tune (whose name means “delightful”) gives us a foretaste of endless song. Sung Prayer of Adoration & Praise: This “short song,” as the Iona Community calls it, can be especially effective as a means of setting a welcoming tone for a service (especially an ecumenical one). Like most such songs, it needs to be sung several times, adding and improvising harmony with each repetition. John Bell is the leading composer of the Iona community. Hymn: This hymn from a noted New Zealand hymnwriter affirms that God’s hospitality transcends the barriers erected by human society and that we who have been created in God’s image are called to live in ways that reflect our Creator’s values: justice and joy, compassion and peace. RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Brief Statement of Faith) Hannah GodwinIn life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our LORD Jesus

Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the onetriune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. TheSpirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to loveGod and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body ofChrist, the Church. The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rulesour faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Wordproclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life andthe cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church.

In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in ourdaily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heavenand new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” Amen.

Offertory Anthem: John Rutter was born inLondon in 1945 andreceived his firstmusical education as achorister at HighgateSchool. He went on tostudy music at ClareCollege, Cambridge, where he wrote his firstpublished compositionsand conducted his firstrecording while still astudent. Hiscompositional careerhas embraced bothlarge and small-scalechoral works, orchestraland instrumentalpieces, a pianoconcerto, two children’soperas, music fortelevision, and specialistwriting for such groupsas the Philip Jones BrassEnsemble and TheKing’s Singers. Today’sOffertory Anthem, AClare Benediction, wascomposed by Rutter tohonor Clare College.

Processional Hymn:The scriptural basis ofthis text is Romans15:7, recast as a prayerin the opening two linesof the first stanza. Themany implications ofliving as people whohave been accepted byChrist fill the remainingstanzas. This tune wascomposed for the firstpublication of this text.

Marcellocomposed a variety ofmusic includingconsiderable churchmusic, oratorios, hundreds of solocantatas, duets, sonatas, concertos andsinfonias. Marcello wasa contemporary ofAntonio Vivaldi inVenice, and hisinstrumental musicenjoys a decidelyVivaldian flavor.

The Angel Tree Is Coming! For many years DPC has participated in Decatur’s A Season ofGiving/Christmas Decatur through our Angel Tree. This is alocal mission to some of our low-income families and senioradults who live in Decatur.

Each year members and friends of DPC visit the Angel Tree, select angel gifts, leave their names in the Angel Tree Box toregister to bring gifts, shop, and return the paper angels withthe gifts. There are directions for shopping and wrappinggifts printed on the back of the angels.

You will notice some changes in the Angel Tree this year:- We are excited to announce that participants in the DPC

Angel Tree will have a new online option for selecting giftsto purchase for our neighbors in need. Watch foradditional details coming soon to the DPC website.

- The angels have a different look. Gifts for children areprinted on yellow paper and gifts for adults are printed onred paper. You will record your gifts by writing your nameon the Angel Tree Gift Record attached to the back of thepaper angel, tearing it off, and dropping the Angel TreeGift Record in the Angel Tree Box.

-Please provide receipts for clothing gifts in case itemsneed to be exchanged for a different size.

- Since space is especially limited this year, there will be oneAngel Tree in the Narthex and an Angel Tree Banner inSlack Fellowship Hall. Angel Tree Boxes for collectingAngel Tree Gift Records will be near the Angel Tree andAngel Tree Banner.

- Gifts can be brought to the church as soon as they arepurchased. ou may leave gifts in the Angel Tree Gift Boxesin the Narthex on Sundays and in the church office duringthe week.

- Angel Tree Angels, green paper angels, are beingintroduced this year. ngel Tree Angels are available inresponse to the many “angels” who have asked how theycan go the extra mile in providing angel tree gifts. TheAngel Tree Angels will help with shopping in the event thatgifts are still needed after the November 19th due date. Angel Tree Angels are encouraged to pick up the redand/or yellow angels for children and senior adults inaddition to the Angel Tree Angel and will need to be ableto shop during the week of November 19th.
