Take advantage of this leisurely time of year to complete your final summer

projects and prepare for the busy fall season to come.

Inside

Clean Windows Balance. If windows stick, clean the tracks in which the sash

slides with a mild detergent. Lubricate with silicone spray if the window drags.

Make sure ceiling fans are working. Check for a warped blade, loose blade

screws, or a wobbling motor. Clean the blades regularly.

Keep allergens at bay. Damp-wipe window blinds and fan blades and vacuum your

home thoroughly at least once a week.

Outside

Clean the barbeque. Run a gas gril l for 10 to 15 minutes on high to burn off

residue, then turn off, and clean with a wire brush.

Turn off indoor lights when you're using your deck or porch at night to keep

insects from finding their way inside.

Order bulbs for fall planting. Catalogues offer plenty of design ideas and a wide

selection.

Another bonus: Buying in bulk through the mail usually means a discount.

Touch up exterior paint before fall sets in, as a sudden drop in temperature can

compromise your paint job. Scrape, sand, and clean any blistered or peeling areas.

Spot-prime and apply a finish coat with enough overlap to adhere to the existing paint

surface.

Gochujang Gazpacho

INGREDIENTS

2 cups diced ripe tomato, divided

1/2 cup chopped peeled seedless cucumber, divided

Zest and juice of 1 orange

2 garlic cloves, chopped

2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion

2 tablespoons finely chopped yellow bell pepper

2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean hot pepper paste)

2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

2 tablespoons Sherry vinegar

1 teaspoon grated peeled ginger

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons chopped mint

Preparation:

Pulse 1 1/2 cups tomato, 1/4 cup cucumber, orange zest and juice, garlic, onion, bell pepper, gochujang, dill, parsley, lemon juice, vinegar, ginger, and salt in a blender until coarsely chopped. Drizzle in oil while pulsing until mixture is combined but not totally smooth. Divide gazpacho between 2 bowls and garnish with remaining tomato and cucumber. Top with mint.

Do Ahead

Gazpacho can be made up to 2 days in advance and refrigerated Wait to garnish until ready to serve. Cooks' Note: You can find gochujang at Asian food markets or online.
