Death Camps The death camps were created

by the Nazi regime to eliminate people they felt were inferior to the Aryan race. first camp was created in 1933 when Dachau was built. Jews and Gypsies were the main people sent to the camps. Also Serbs, Russian prisoners of war, Poles, communists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and homosexuals were sent to the camps.

The camps were sometimes different in method but all were designed to kill as many people as possible.Once the people were dead, they were put in the crematorium where they were burned. Their ashes were buried or scattered

Treblinka Established July 23, 1942 Carbon Monoxide gas-

Carbon Monoxide poisons by entering the lungs from the nose and replacing oxygen from the bloodstream. Altering the normal supply of oxygen puts at risk the functions of the heart, brain and other vital body parts.

Killed 700,000

Treblinka was between the Polish towns Siedlce and Malkinia.

Auschwitz-Birkenau Established

September, 1941 Zyklon-B Killed over 1,200,000

Auschwitz-Birkenau the most notorious of all the extermination centers. It was located 37 miles from the town of Auschwitz. There were a total of 1,208,000 people murdered at Auschwitz. Only 198,000 survived.

Stutthof Established June,

1944 Zyklon-B gas Killed 65,000

Stutthof is located in the northeast of Germany near a town named danzing. Most of the prisoners inside Stutthof were not Jews, there were some polish Jews however.

Chelmno Established December

7, 1941 Gas Vans Killed 320,000

Chelmno was a Nazi death camp in Poland on the Ner river. The camp was used for the extermination of Jews from the Western Polish provinces

Sobibor Established March,

1942 Carbon Monoxide gas Killed 250,000

Sobibor was built in a forest on the bug river near the polish town of Sobibor

Majdanek Established October,

1942 Carbon Monoxide and

Zyklon B gas Killed 1,380,000

Was located on the outskirts of Lubin. It was originally made as a prisoner of war camp for the Poles.

Summary

3.5 million people were murdered in Nazi death camps

The Nazis rationalized these murders with their racial superiority beliefs

Hitler’s quest for world domination allowed the Nazis to implement the greatest crime known to mankind
