Dear Parishioners,
We are now in that season known as Ascensiontide.
This is the period which extends from Ascension
Thursday, through to the Vigil of Pentecost exclusive.
As I mentioned in last week’s bulletin letter, this time would also be
known as the “Octave of the Ascension.” Though I couldn’t possible
remember THIS detail, I’d venture to guess that it would have been a
second class octave. That, of course, is a tidbit you’ll never need to
know anyway.
Last Saturday, May 25, I attended the ordination of three priests at
the Cathedral of St. Raymond. It was unfortunate that I couldn’t
attend the priestly ordinations of the Fraternity of St. Peter last
Saturday in Nebraska. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet mastered the art
of “bi-location,” but I’m still working on it.
Things will get a bit easier for me once I have an assistant. I have
plans for him and for us. For example, on Wednesdays, there will no
longer be an “unscheduled” Mass. And on Thursdays, there will also
be a 7:30 AM Mass in addition to the one in the evening which is
followed by our Holy Hour. There will also be no Saturday morning
without Mass here because I have to celebrate Mass for the Poor
Clares. Yes, one day, there will be 7:30 AM Masses Monday through
Friday. There will always be a Saturday morning Mass. And, at least
“ad experimentum,” when my assistant arrives, I’ll be planning an
early Sunday Mass, say, 7:30am or 8:00am. Of course, it goes
without saying that the Sunday evening Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul
will continue.
What will NOT happen, however, will be the celebration of two
public Masses on weekdays, that would defeat the idea of an
assistant whose primary duty would be to sub for the pastor (as the
pastor would sub for him) at vacation times, times of possible illness
or the necessity of attending meetings or conferences. All of the
wrinkles will have to be worked out, but it will be a most exciting
time, my children and my friends.

church of St. Joseph, a true treasure. But like
any treasure, it must be protected and
maintained so that all may see her beauty.
We are very much in need of volunteers from
