Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to June’s Newsleer, every month we seem to go from strength to strength across the Federaon with the mixed and varied events we are enjoying both in school and across the local commu- nity. The newsleer is jam packed with acvies such as our World Rec- ord Aempt, Quad Kids, Kwik Cricket, Community visits, and Wells Country Dancing to name but a few. The posive ap- proach to learning that is evident across the school is wonderful and this has definitely over-spilled into the children’s amazing representaon of our school during recent visits. To say I am a proud Head Teacher is an understatement. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending me reading reports and reflecng on each of your children’s progress across this year. It has given me the opportunity to revisit many of the wonderful and v aried learning experiences that your children have been involved in, and to celebrate the different approaches that our teachers and support staff have across our staff base. The ladies and gentleman of the PTA are busy pung together the final touches to the School Fete that is being held on Friday July 6 th at 5pm. This is definitely not an event to be missed this year! As we head into the final three weeks please take the me to look at the diary so you don’t miss any excing end of term events. We are all looking forward to next week’s transion acvies. Quad Kids Holly class learnt about how to find safe places to cross the road by looking for orange flashing nights to signal a zebra crossing. They were reminded that we have to stop look and listen still as cars may not see us still. They then learnt about traffic lights and how to know it is safe to cross by looking for the green man. They thought about where traffic lights are in town and they were reminded that again that they need to be aware of what the cars around us are doing. Holly Class had a good knowledge about road safety and could answer questions well.

Our school Attendance Policy states that all pupils should achieve at least 95% attendance with the ultimate aim of 100%. We are very pleased to let you know that our whole school attendance to date stands at 96.7%. Please remember that your child’s attendance is monitored weekly and, if their attendance drops below 90% we will contact you to see how we can support you with this. Lateness It is really important that your child is in school and ready to start their day by 9am. Thank you for your support in this.

Children were very excited by the thought of competing on the Yeovil athletics track. One child said ‘is this where they trained for the Olympics’. We all had fun and every child tried their best, competing in the 400m, 50m, standing long jump and vortex throw. Poppy Conroy got fastest 400m girl and came 7th out of all the girls, Lucus came 25th out of all the boys. The rest of the team all put in 100% to gain as many team points as possible. It was a great way to learn how we had to work as a team, cheering each other on and supporting each other to do well together. Thank you to the parents, who supported us on the day. We look forward to next year. Mr Pearse

On Friday 8th June Mrs Dawson and Mrs Gosden were furious to find out their classrooms had been messed up! There were books all over the floor, leaves on their computers, drawers pulled out and so much more! They thought that it was a mischievous child who was trying to trick them. When Holly and Hazel Class came in they became detectives to prove to Mrs Gosden and Mrs Dawson that it wasn’t them. They found some clues such as bones, footprints, leaves, a very strange looking machine and even a dinosaur selfie! When they were talking together as two classes Mrs Gosden was reminded about a story she had read to her daughter the previous night called The Dinosaurs Next-door. They read the story and realised that there were lots of similarities. They found out that there had been some full sized dinosaurs in school overnight but that the machine they had found had shrunk them to the size of a toy. We are looking forward to mak-ing some news reports about this and looking at the story in more detail.

Monkey World A group of year 3 and 4's took part in a Kwik cricket tournament at Ilminster Cricket ground on Friday 22nd June. Poppy Hawker , James Chatterton, Archie Cummins, Olivia-Jane Carling, Sayer Pilton, Oliver Dobrzynski and Poppy Conroy all took part. Poppy Hawker was our captain and helped set the field when we were bowling. They lost the first game but came off smiling as they had made some good runs and learnt a lot about what they needed to do. The second game was a lot closer as they fielded well and hit some 4's. They grew more confident as the afternoon went on. Their final game was their best. They fielded well stopping the opposition from scoring 4's and bowled well. They all scored 4's throughout the after-noon and were a real credit to the school. They really improved and were very confident by the end of the afternoon.

Country Dancing

What a lovely day, the monkeys were all out and about making noise and swinging around. The children really enjoyed seeing the monkeys doing rude things and playful things; we even made it to the chimpanzee talk which was very interesting. Thank you all those helpers which supported us throughout the day. The children behaved brilliantly and I was stopped two or three times by pedestrians to say how lovely and polite the

children were. Well done all. Mr Pearse

On Wednesday I woke up feeling excited because I was going to Monkey World for my school trip. I arrived at school and Mrs Wills gave me my lunch. My partner was Alfred. We got on the coach. I sat next to the window. Alfred and I talked about what monkeys we were going to see. First we all went to the toilet. After that we walked to see some monkeys. A monkey was holding a bottle and he

banged it on the window. Next we ate our lunch. By Emilio Year 1

On Saturday 16th June, the country dancers from Ashlands took part in the Somerset Folk Dance Festival on the Cathedral Green at Wells. There were a few light showers in the morning but for-tunately not enough to cancel the event. At 1.30pm everyone met at St Cuthbert’s Church eagerly waiting for the start. Ashlands and Misterton danced as a federation and the children mixed together to parade through the town. Once on the Cathedral green the children sat in their allocated space and waited for the dancing to start. The children danced brilliantly throughout the afternoon with both schools mixed together. At one point there was a heavy downpour, but the dancers kept going whilst the parents hid un-der umbrellas. At the end of the event, all the children found their parents and everyone took part in the Circassian Circle dance. Well done to all the dancers.

Mrs Hooper

Year 4 enjoyed a trip to Maiden Beech this week. They used the tech suite to complete activities on the computers, bought snacks from the can-teen (pizza and pasta pots were the favourites) and enjoyed playing on the field (particularly football). The Y7 children who visited Ashlands as part of their transition activities earlier in the term also helped to look after the children whilst playing on the field.

Poppy Curtain

We were approached by the organisers of the fete to create some art work to commemorate the end of WW1. Mrs Hooper and Mrs Gosden came up with the idea of creating a wall of poppies. Every child made a poppy, using card, wool and shiny pa-per. These were sewn onto a curtain to create our “Curtain of Poppies”. This was displayed at the fete and we won a £10 book voucher.
