Dear Beehively , The faculty met Friday to prepare for our return on tomorrow. Right away, I want to thank our teachers and administrators for their incredibly thoughtful preparation and support, as any two weeks out of school are already disruptive, but a two week natural disaster break is something altogether different. Your children return in tremendous hands. We decided that it was important for our kids to get back into a routine that is safe and predictable. Our teachers all felt like they wanted to the opportunity to be with their students in their homerooms first, so the day will start for kids much like it always does, with classes together for a morning prayer and morning meeting in homerooms and then back into learning. Parents are welcome but not required to "mingle with their kids" in the classrooms until 8:30. For those of us who can't quite imagine another minute of mingling with our kids, we will have an informal welcome back coffee for the parents, from 8:309:00 (Coffee and treats will be out at 8:00 in the Activity Center and I will start at 8:30). I will highlight some of what the school has already done and also some of the decisions we are in the process of making, especially how best to make up for this time away, and what we might expect to see from the kids (emotionally, and in turn, academically and behaviorally). I will send everything we share/discuss to the entire school community afterward. I realize that the time away from work for many has been very difficult, so attendance at the meeting is only for you if you can and want to. The kids and teachers will come together at the end of the day for a light and fun gathering of our own, with their buddy classes. PLEASE PLAN FOR MONDAY DROP OFF AND PICK UP TO BE BUSY (COME EARLY AT DROP OFF, AND LATER AT PICK UP IF YOU WANT TO SAY HELLO TO EACH OTHER, PLEASE PARK IN THE BACK AND TAKE YOUR TIME). Aspire classes will resume Monday afterschool, as will Afterschool care. PLEASE make sure you email Emma Evanson ([email protected]) if your child(ren) will attend aftercare.
