Dear Algonquin Lakes Elementary Family,
Second Step Curriculum
We are excited to let you know that we are continuing with a K-5 curriculum Second Step which addresses student’s social and emotional skills. Social skills include things like making and keeping friends, showing respect for others, and resolving disagreements in positive ways. Emotional skills include things like being able to recognize their own and others’ emotions, and showing healthy self-control. In addition, your child’s classroom will be participating in the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) Program. The goal of this program is for teachers and families to identify and enhance a child’s social and emotional skills, which are essential to academic achievement. Teachers will use Second Step and the DESSA to help children be more successful in school. In addition, teachers will share information about activities that you can do at home to build your child’s social and emotional skills. We are working to improve your children’s education by ensuring it meets their unique needs. If you have any questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact me.
Pickup and Drop Off Procedure
Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and efficient student drop off and pickup procedure. As a reminder, no cars are permitted in our North the parking lot as buses utilize the area. We understand K-3 students lineup in the area but refrain from using the area.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am excited to share that District 300 is continuing to implement a Math and Reading program called i-Ready.
Below, you will find information on the program and how we will be using it in the classroom.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us assess your child’s individual needs and monitor their progress
throughout the school year.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive test that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s
performance. Its purpose is not to give your child a score or grade but instead to determine
where they need the most support.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs,
so your child can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive,
with games and characters to keep your child engaged.
How will i-Ready help my child?
i-Ready will help us determine how we can best support your child in meeting their learning goals and will
provide lessons that fit their individual needs. Past data shows that students who used i-Ready for more than 45
minutes per week grew 44% more in Reading and 65% more in Math than the average student.
To login to iReady on your home computer - please have your student login to Rapid Identity
(https://id.d300.org) with their student ID number which can be found on the parent portal (i.e. 123456) and
password. Password is the word “Student” and last 2 digits of the student’s ID# – (i.e. Student56) Click on the
iReady icon and begin working in iReady.
Please contact your child’s school for assistance with your student’s login and password.
If you continue to need support, please email [email protected]
Sincerely,
Patty Schmidt
