Soul Restoration: Restoration for Restorers of the BreachCharles Mock, Servant Leader of Community Baptist ChurchBackground Scriptures: Isaiah 58:9-12; 1st Kings 19:4-13; Psalm 23; Matthew 11:28-29

Christians are Restorers of “the Breach” and there are many breaches these days!

Page 3: deab73077f33b1aab2c2 ...… · Web viewHearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

What is a Breach?A breach is a gap that needs to be mended or something that needs to be repaired so it can function as designed.Christians have been blessed to be a blessing!Christians have been restored to become Restorers!What are some Breaches in need of Restoration or Repair?1.2.3.Our Soul can experience a Breach!What is meant by the Soul?

1. one’s will2. one’s mind3. one’s emotions

The Soul is that which collectively makes us an authentic “self!” It is that which is left over after our bodies die and decay.The Servant Elijah: The Thrill of Victory!Elijah had to be on cloud nine when his God honored his challenge to those who wanted to worship God and Baal. The Agony of Defeat! The Post-Victory SyndromeIt’s hard to fathom that this is the same servant of God who just experienced a major victory! “I’ve had enough Lord! Take my life Lord. I’m no better than others!” His Faith Gave Out but he didn’t Give In!The Path toward Soul Restoration:

1. Eat what heaven provides: Food for the Soul from angels—brothers and sisters in Christ. SOUL RESSTORATION IS GROUNDED AND NURTURED IN A SOCIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER WOUNDED HEALERS AND BREACHERS THROUGH THE HEAVENLY SUPPORT THEY OFFER.

2. Get up and follow the Angel of the Lord: Be led by the Holy Spirit to a place where God’s voice can better be heard.

3. Cave in at the right place: Mt Sinai! Do you have a secret closet?4. The Place of Soul Provision:

a. fresh affirmation of our identityb. fresh confirmation of our ministryc. fresh listening for the Right Voice: Be still so you can hear the still small voice of the Lord.

5. Be honest when answering God’s question: “What are you doing here?”

Kings, leaders with major power and authority even need Soul Restoration!

Psalm 23“The Lord is my Shepherd (Restorer) I shall not want (for any good thing).”Unlike sheep we Christian servants have freedom of choice!When we do not use our freedom for Soul Restoration we experience a Breach in our Soul.

The Good News!The Restorer of all Breaches will step in on our behalf as he did for Elijah and David and: make us lie down in green pasturesmake us drink from His still waters of restorationmake us travel again His paths of righteousnessmake us stand up to our enemies rather than run from them make us eat at his prepared table in the presence of our enemies. make our hair soaking wet with his anointing make us feel homeland security by his Rod of protection make us feel completely at peace by His Staff of comfortmake His mercy and goodness follow us all the days of our lifeand make us dwell in His house forever!

AS LEADERS, WHY STRIVE TO BE EMPATHETIC?Marcus Atkinson, Pastor of Community EngagementEmpathy is a _________ to compassion. It understands how someone feels, and trying to imagine how that might feel for you — it’s a mode of relating. Compassion takes it further. It’s feeling what that person is feeling, _______ it, _________ it, and taking some kind of _________.

There are lots of reasons we might not want to have empathy or “feel with” another person. Here are a few I

have heard myself thinking. Do you think anything like this?

This person __________________________

Why should I engage with his pain?

Page 5: deab73077f33b1aab2c2 ...… · Web viewHearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

Here she goes again. If I show empathy she will just sing the ______________ even longer. I don’t have the __________________ to suffer along with anyone else right now. It just hurts too

much.

Q. – What other factors may contribute to us having an apathetic attitude towards people?

We should be committed to living a life aligned with our understanding of spiritual intelligence. We should see

empathy as a piece of compassion-building. Why?

This four-level hierarchy helps to explain the differences between apathy, sympathy, empathy and

compassion.

Apathy = ____________________________________________________________________

Sympathy = __________________________________________________________________

Empathy = ___________________________________________________________________

Compassion = ________________________________________________________________

Let us examine two key ways in which Christ helps us to manifest this beautiful, but seemingly elusive quality in today's self-serving society.

1. First, the Lord taught compassion as He lived among men by His _______, by His willingness to ______ others. The hands of Jesus _________ those who were sick to heal them.

In Mark 1:40-41 for example, we read these words,40 And a lepercame to him, imploring him, and j kneeling said to him,“If you will,you can make me clean.” 41

Moved   with   pity , he stretched out his hand and touched himand said to him, “I will; be clean”

2.Secondly, we see the Lord taught compassion by His ___________. The Lord's ___________ of compassion for the lost sheep of the house of Israel are depicted in  Luke 19:41-44: 41 r And when he drew near and saw the city,he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would thatyou, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they arehidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies w will setup a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tearyou down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave onestone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

SCRIPTURAL REFLECTION: In 1 John 3:17-18, the Scripture says,17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother inneed, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? 18 Littlechildren, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

Q. - Have we gotten into the rut of “comfortable” and “familiar”? (Open honest prayers to God)

NEXT STEP:Be intentional about walking in the shoes of “others” as often as possible. Allow yourself to be stretched, challenged and uncomfortable.
