AccommodationIf you’re looking to move away from home then we can arrange accommodation for you with some of the UK’s leading student accommodation providers, so that you have a safe, comfortable place to live while you’re studying at De Broc. By staying in our accommodation, you’ll get to meet and live with students studying on other De Broc and University of Law courses.

Accommodation is usually in shared flats or, in some cases, self-contained studios. Flats are usually shared with three, four or five other undergraduate students. Typically you’ll have a shared kitchen/dining room which includes a fridge-freezer, oven, hob, kettle and microwave. In most accommodation there’s a separate shared lounge area with comfy sofas and TV, some with inclusive Sky satellite channels.

You’ll have your own fully-furnished bedroom, which will normally include a study area and an en-suite bathroom. On-site laundries are available at most accommodation sites, with on-site gyms at some. 24-hour security is taken extremely seriously at all our accommodation locations. Door entry and intercom systems restrict access and CCTV surveillance gives added protection.

Most halls have dedicated accommodation management staff available on-site to help you. For further assistance, some locations have student wardens, usually second-year students, who are happy to provide extra support, especially if you’re living away from home for the first time.

As an indication, for 2015/2016, weekly rental costs are £245 per week in London and £105 to £155 per week outside London.

We guarantee you an offer of accommodation in the first year of your degree if you have accepted us as your firm choice and applied for

accommodation by September 2015.

If you’re classed as a UK or EU national and resident, you will be able to apply to the UK government for support to assist with covering the costs of this course, subject to meeting the individual eligibility requirements. To contact a member of our finance team, please email: [email protected]

Tuition Fee LoanIf you’re successful in securing a UK government fee loan, any payment for fees would be made directly to the University of Law in three instalments throughout the course. As we’re a private institution, the maximum fee loan that can be awarded to study a full time degree here with us is £6,000 per year, which is what we charge.

If you have secured a UK government loan, you need to provide us with a copy of your University and College Payment Advice letter at registration in order for the University to receive tuition fee payments from the Student Loans Company (SLC). If you’re unable to provide this notice from the SLC at registration, you’ll be responsible for paying the full tuition until the University has seen evidence of your support entitlement.

This loan is not means-tested and therefore most UK students should be eligible to receive the maximum £6,000 loan, unless you have studied a first degree previously. You can also choose to borrow a lesser amount (or none) from the SLC.

Maintenance LoanAlso known as a living cost loan, students studying on a full time course are eligible to apply for a maintenance loan to help you pay for living costs such as accommodation, food and travel. The amount each individual will receive is affected by the household income and circumstances.

De Broc School of Business’s status as a private institution (as part of The University of Law) doesn’t affect the amount of living support you’ll be entitled to receive. Again, these loans are not required to be repaid by the student until you have left the course and are earning an income.

Depending on which centre you decide to study at and where you decide to live, you can apply for the following amounts:

Fees and fundingRepaymentThe amount you owe will increase each year with interest. Interest is charged at the rate of inflation plus 3%.

You don’t start repaying your tuition fee and maintenance loans until you are in work and earning over £21,000 a year. The amount you repay is calculated at a rate of 9% of your income over £21,000. So, if your salary is £25,000 a year, you pay 9% of £4,000, which works out as £6.92 a week.

How to apply for student finance (UK students)You can apply for student finance online or by completing paper applications.

Students can submit an application for support from the December before your course start.

You should apply for support as soon as possible to allow time for your application to be processed prior to enrolment. If you apply late you may not receive confirmation of how much support you’re entitled to receive before the course starts and may experience delays in the funding being released.

For further information, visit the student finance website for your region.England:  Student Finance EnglandWales:  Student Finance WalesScotland:  The Students Awards

If you accept a place at De Broc School of Business through UCAS and then decide you don’t wish to take up this place, you’ll need to request the cancellation in writing to the admissions department on or before the 19 September in order not to be liable for the first instalment of tuition fees.

GrantsAs well as the loans, there are a number of non-repayable grants available to support full time study at DeBroc School of Business.

Maintenance GrantEnglish students may also be eligible to receive up to £3,387 as non-repayable Maintenance Grant depending on the level of household income. If you have a household income of £25,000 or under, you are eligible to apply for a full Maintenance Grant of£3,387. If you have a household income of between£25,000 and £42,875, you are eligible to apply for a partial Maintenance Grant.

The Maintenance Grant offsets some of your Maintenance Loan, meaning you can take out a smaller loan but still get extra financial support, which you won’t have to pay back. To find out more about what you could be entitled to visit the UK Government website.

Students from Northern Ireland, Wales and ScotlandThese authorities are yet to confirm the student support rates for 2015, however we have provided rates for 2014 as a guide until the 2015 rates are announced. Students from Wales could be entitled to a Welsh Assembly Learning Grant of up to £5,161 instead of a Maintenance Grant depending on family income circumstances. Students from Scotland could receive up to £1,750 as a bursary instead of a Maintenance Grant, depending on family income circumstances. Students from Northern Ireland could receive up to £3,475 as a Maintenance Grant depending on family income circumstances.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)If you have a disability, you may be entitled to claim extra financial help while studying. Disabilities covered include long-term illnesses, mental-health conditions and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. These grants do not depend on income and don’t have to be repaid. To find out what you could be entitled to, visit the UK Government website.

Advice for international studentsWith locations in the UK’s largest and most exciting business hubs, De Broc is an ideal place to start a business career that will have impact around the world. Our fees for international students are £9,500 per year.

Students who require a visa to study in the UKStudents who will require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK will need to pay 25% of the total course fee for the year in the first instalment, which is £7,125. This is in order to meet the requirements of the visa application.

• Instalment One (due 6 September 2015) - £7,125• Instalment Two (due 1 January 2016) – £1,187.50• Instalment Three (due 1 April 2016) - £1,187.50

For students who require a Tier 4 visa, the initial fee payment must be made before any Confirmation of Accepted Studies (CAS) letter can be issued to apply for a visa. Therefore it is strongly recommended that a student requiring a visa pays the initial fee at least 4 weeks before the course starts to allow for any visa application to be processed.

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)If you need to be sponsored under Tier 4 of the points-based system, the University must issue you with a CAS before you can apply for your visa. You must have paid at least the first instalment of your Year 1 course fees before the University can issue this to you.

If you accept a place at De Broc School of Business and then decide you don’t want to take up this place, you’ll need to request the cancellation in writing to the admissions department before the 20 September 2015 in order not to be liable for the first instalment of tuition fees.

Language requirementsTo apply as an international student, you’ll need to provide evidence of English language ability before we can issue you with a CAS reference number, unless you’re from a majority English-speaking country (listed below). However, in some circumstances the University may request evidence of your English language proficiency either before you start a programme or during the programme of study.

If you are from one of the following countries, we do not need to see evidence of your English language ability:

Course cancellation policy Definition1. Course cancellation is the decision not to run a

course, i.e. a specific mode of a programme from a specific start date in a specific location, after it has been advertised as available to prospective students, for example in the prospectus or on the website.

2. A decision to run a course from a different site in close proximity to the original location e.g. London Moorgate rather than London Bloomsbury, is not a course cancellation but a course variation and is governed by a separate policy.

Reasons for course cancellation3. Courses may be cancelled for educational, practical

or business reasons, for example where student numbers are expected to be so low that the student learning experience will be harmed, or where a Centre is unable to resource a course or where a course will not be economically viable.

Process4. A decision to cancel a course must be taken in

accordance with the supporting course cancellation protocols which may be amended from time to time.

Protocols5. The supporting course cancellation protocols will

be student focused, transparent and time sensitive

They will:• aim to minimise the inconvenience and cost to

students of course cancellation, and• seek to enable students to attend a suitable

alternative course.

What the course cancellation policy means to youDe Broc School of Business endeavours to run all the courses it advertises but sometimes this is not possible due to reasons beyond its control; in particular if critical numbers on less popular start dates are not met.

In order to minimise the inconvenience and expense of course cancellation to you the University will:• warn you if a course is at risk of cancellation due

to failure to achieve critical numbers• use its best endeavours to recruit sufficient students

to be able to run the course• take into account the regulator’s recommendations

and requirements, the educational experience and the circumstances of individuals who have accepted a place on the course in making a decision in relation to cancellation

• in relation to courses exceeding one week in duration, give you not less than 6* weeks’ notice of cancellation prior to the start of the course

• provide you with help and advice in relation to finding an alternative course with the University

• and if you decide to withdraw, promptly refund your deposit and any fees paid towards the course

* subject to circumstances beyond our control
