A few weeks ago we all tooktime to honor those who lostso much 10 years ago in theterror attacks that took placeon September 11, 2001. It isimportant that we use this asa constant reminder of neverbeing too careful. That doesn’tjust mean while we’re traveling –cyber attacks are just as much aconcern with the dawn of socialmedia.According to Dr. Farshid

Delgosha, a professor at theNew York Institute of Technology,cyber attacks are becomingmore prevalent becauseconsumers are able to accessthe Internet and complete tasksfrom basically anywhere throughmobile devices. Wirelessexchanges may be monitoredby hackers, and someone’sdevice can be accessed to steal

personal data.Social Media can also lead to

cyber attacks. Let’s face it: socialmedia makes the Internet andsharing information with peopleso much more fun so you end updoing it more often.Cloud computing could be

another area for hackers totake advantage of, but Dr.Delgosha thinks this technologyneeds additional work andunderstanding before taking astance on security.It’s important that we all take

security concerns with ourmobile devices, social mediaand other forms of informationtechnology seriously.

News...The number of special education

teachers is expected to increaseby 17 percent from 2008 to 2018,according to the U.S. Bureau ofLabor Statistics.Thanks to a $5,000 grant from

the TD Charitable Foundation,the charitable giving arm of TDBank, America’s Most ConvenientBank, Mount Saint Mary Collegewill better meet this need byfurther developing its specialeducation programs, part of thecollege’s nationally accreditedteacher education curriculum.The TD Charitable Foundation

grant provides for assistivetechnology equipment for usewith current and future specialeducation students in publicschools, particularly in theNewburgh and Beacon cityschool districts. Studies showthat assistive technology in theclassroom benefits students byenhancing learning and buildinglife skills.

Mount Saint Mary Collegestudents partner with more than50 area school districts in theMid-Hudson Valley, workingwith students with and withoutdisabilities and utilizing the mosteffective teaching methods.Before they even start studentteaching, Mount students complete100-150 hours or more of in-school fieldwork.Approximately two thirds of

For working women, goingback to school to furthertheir education can be abig challenge of both timeand money. The ChamberFoundation hopes to helpalleviate one of those worries,and is proud to again announcethe availability of the ATHENAAdult Scholarship.The ATHENAAdult

Scholarship is available toany female who lives, worksor volunteers in DutchessCounty, has been out of high

school for at least five years,and is pursuing education at anaccredited Mid-Hudson Valleycollege, university or tradeschool or through an accreditedonline educational programwhile maintaining residencyin Dutchess. For the purposeof this award, “Mid-Hudson” isdefined as Columbia, Dutchess,Greene, Orange and Ulstercounties.Scholarship applicants will

be judged based on a criteriaincluding past academic

performance and future goals,community involvement,application essay and letters ofrecommendation, and financialneed. All applicants arerequired to write an essay of 500words or fewer discussing howa specific woman (other than a

relative) has had an influence onyour life. All applications mustbe postmarked by October 15,2011.The minimum scholarship
