    Welcome to DCAD!

    The Continuing Education Program at the Delaware College of Art and Design invites you to join a community of aspiring and professional artists and designers who are committed to creativity and exploration. Classes and workshops are open to the community everyone is welcome! Most classes are conducted in the evenings and on the weekends and are non-degree, part-time courses of study. Classes and workshops range from one to 12 class meetings.

    Summer semester begins Monday, June 9.

    The Continuing Education Program at DCAD is dedicated to providing the community with dynamic courses that foster personal and professional growth. DCAD delivers challenging and inspiring courses in downtown Wilmington. These small classes conducted by an engaging faculty of working artists and design professionals focus on your individual success.

    In addition to a wide selection of classes, DCADs Continuing Education Program also offers Certificate Programs. These provide students with the opportunity to accelerate their careers and artistic abilities through focused, compact courses that develop creative and technical skills while progressing through the prescribed curricula in Web and Graphic Design, Art and Design, Interior Design or Photography.

    No application is required for Continuing Education classes just register! You may register in person, via phone, mail or online at www.dcad.edu under Register Now. Due to limited class size, please register one week prior to the start-date of your preferred courses. The complete catalog, including all course descriptions, is available at www.dcad.edu/CE.

    DAVID MANZOLILLOBA in advertising, NYIT, NY; AA in Advertising Art & Design, SUNY Farmingdale. Dave has taught at DCAD since 1998 and is the Creative Director at Independence Blue Cross. http://manzomedia.com

    JASON OLNEYBFA in Film with a minor in Animation, University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Jason Olney is a freelance designer, illustrator and photo retoucher in Newark, Delaware. Fluent in Mac and PC, Jason also attended DCAD. http://jasonolney.com

    CHARLEY PARKERStudied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Charley is a cartoonist, illustrator and web designer. He produces the award-winning online comic Argon Zark! and works for a variety of agencies in web development. www.cparkerdesign.com

    JOY SMOKERBFA in Communication Design, Pratt Institute; AFA in Graphic Design, Delaware College of Art and Design. Joy is the Special Events & Design Coordinator at Children & Families First as well as a freelance illustrator and design consultant.

    HERB SPARKSBFA in Sculpture and Illustration, University of Delaware. Herb Sparks currently consults as an interactive designer and developer to many regional companies. He has been doing interactive web work for more than 10 years and has been teaching at DCAD for more than five years.

    BRAD WASONBrad began in design working for Time Distribution Services: an AOL Time Warner Company, at age 17. Since his first gig in design he has worked extensively with Fortune 500's, start-ups, local businesses and a passionate community of non-profits. In 2010, Brad founded 23rd & 5th, a boutique branding agency based in Wilmington, DE. As the Founder and Creative Director, Brad then sold the firm to DMG Marketing, a niche direct-mail agency that specializes in Financial Marketing, in the summer of 2012. He currently works at DMG Marketing as their Creative Director. In addition to his career in advertising, Brad has over nine years of teaching experience, working as an adjunct instructor for the following institutions: University of Delaware, Delaware College of Art and Design, and, most recently, The coIN Loft in Wilmington.

Publishing techniques, rough composition skills, concept development and fundamentals of typography are introduced as students learn how such technology is used in real world applications. Mac OS knowledge required.

Issues of space, texture, color, rhythm and meaning are addressed. Type and visual elements are combined to create effective layouts. Computer typography is introduced. Prerequisites: Quark I or InDesign I; Mac OS competency.

    ADOBE INDESIGN ICOURSE ID: GD0053Instructor: David ManzolilloSIX SESSIONSWednesday, June 11 July 16; 6 PM 9:15 PMNONCREDIT Tuition: $300/Lab Fee: $35; 2 CEUsInDesign is the latest tool for page layout and electronic pre-press preparation. Because its an Adobe product, InDesign is designed to work with Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. In this course you will gain basic experience with the software as you work with page layout creation, creating and formatting text, inputting and manipulating images, and gain a basic understanding of color as it relates to printing. Exercises are designed to take full advantage of the basic tools within InDesign. Macintosh knowledge required.

Students will learn to create complex multi-page documents utilizing master pages and advanced paragraph and character styles (including the new nested styles feature). The use of tables within InDesign will be explored to automate design tasks. InDesigns robust PDF export capabilities, along with its helpful preflight and document packaging functions, will also be explored. Prerequisite: Adobe InDesign I.
