Campers will choose adventures that require teamwork to understand animal populations and what information should be collected to helprescue these animals. 5th-6th GradersANIMAL BEHAVIOR 101Studying an animal’s behavior in the wild or a zoo can help us get to know them better as individuals AND give scientists valuable insight into the nature and habits of their species. This knowledge can lead to improvements to their care and conservation in the wild and in human care. During this week-long camp, we’ll utilize Zoo hikes and special animal visits to focus on learning the basics of animal obser-vation and investigate the questions that come up.Dates:May 29-June 2June 5-9June 12-16June 19-23

7th-8th GradersZOO CAREERSRunning a zoo involves a lot more than meets the eye. Join us for a week of exploring the many jobs involved in taking care of the Zoo’s animals and creating a great experience for Zoo visitors. You’ll get a chance to get down, dirty and creative with hands-on activities,animal demonstrations, & behind-the-scenes tours. JUNGLE JOURNEYCome on a tropical safari with us! This camp will explore the tropical rainforest where we will meet every animal under the canopy! All of the animals in the Zoo come in differ-ent sizes, some bigger or smaller than others! Join in for a journey through the Zoo to discover some of the largest and tiniest Zoo residents. TERRIFIC TEXTURESPlants and animals come in all different textures! Some are soft like the hair on a rabbit and some are rough like the scales on a lizard’s back! COUNT ON ME1 train, 6 legs, 7 penguins…there sure are a lot of things to count at the Zoo! Join us to work on counting, the animal way! A craft, activities, and the animals we see on hike and in our classroom will make practicing our counting skills fun. I spy…Our world is full is places to discover and explore, and our toddlers are doing just that! Join us for a four week series as we explore our world by getting out into the Zoo, and looking up, down, and all around! You and your child will explore the out-doors, meeting animals who live in the water, underground, in the soil, and way up in the sky! Each week we will discover these animals through live encounters, Zoo hikes and dramatic and exploratory play, in our own Education back yard!

Steps1. Discover the words we use to describe nature2. Identify animals and how they may be the same or different from one another3. Use our senses to explore our surroundings4. Develop senses of wonder and curiosity about our world and friends

PurposeWhen I have finished this series, I will have discovered that animals can live upin the sky, in the trees, or under the ground.

The Art of Nature It’s time to use our creativity to explore the great outdoors! Come outside with us to create our own art projects, and discover the fascinating art palette nature has to offer! Each week of our series we will meet animals face-to-face inside and around the Zoo, as we get hands on with nature in our own backyard!.

SLEEP WITH THE MANATEESDid you know that The Cincinnati Zoo is one of only two insti-tutions outside of Florida that rescue and rehabilitate mana-tees? Come experience a once-in-a-lifetime sleepover with these gentle giants! During the overnight you will enjoy two sneak peeks behind the scenes, hike the Zoo at night, play games, experience animal encounters and fall asleep with our resident manatees swimming at your feet. AFRICA PREDATOR PROWLProwl the Zoo at night searching for predators of Africa and beyond while learning about the vital role predators play in an ecosystem and how humans and predators can coexist to-gether. Groups will meet animal ambassadors, hike the Zoo at night, get a peek behind the scenes, and do a hands-on investigation exploring predation techniques in the African Savannah. For families with children 5 years old and up.Dates: June 3, 10, 17, July 1, 28 or 29: 6 pm-9 amCost: $40/Member $45/Non-Member

WHAT’S THE BUZZ ABOUT POLLINATORS? Who likes honey? How about apples, avocados, grapes, almonds, and CHOCOLATE? If you said yes to any of these foods, thank a pollinator! Creep, crawl, fly, or hop on down to the Zoo to join us for a class that cel-ebrates these unsung heroes (such as bees, bats, hummingbirds, and but-terflies) of our food chain as we go for a scavenger hunt around the Zoo to learn about their food sources and look for signs of their handiwork.

HURRAY FOR DAD! From babysitters to breadwinners, the dads of many animal species take an active role in their families’ lives. We’ll learn more about these import-ant and often overlooked family members as we celebrate them on their special weekend.Dates: June 17: 10:00-11:30 am
