READING: READ and ANNOTATE Chapter SEVEN. Don’t forget to give chapter seven a

title after reading. In the Remote Learning Week 6 Folder under ‘Helpful Resources’, I have

placed the HIGHLIGHTING CODE, ANNOTATING STRATEGIES, and Quizlet Link to

Vocabulary. (highlight setting, character, figurative language, etc) I will provide screen shots in

Showbie of my annotating and highlighting of each chapter. Your annotating can look like mine

but make sure you are putting your own notes to help you better understand the text. I will

provide an audio read of chapter 7 in Showbie. NOTE: the author uses a lot of figurative

language – this is author’s craft.

Create a PIC collage or poster of your own "cardboard jungle" in Hooverville based

on the setting of the story and the author's use of descriptive language. You must

show/label the water, food, entertainment, and other things people may have

needed at that time. Submit PIC collage to Showbie in Remote Learning Week 6

under Thursday. Directions for submitting:

ELA – For Mother’s Day Poetry Book – Watch the videos that I have provided in

Showbie and keep a copy for your Mother’s Day book to give to her on Sunday, May

10th. You will be adding two more poems next week to the book.

Day 5 – Friday – Reading/English Plans –

**WHEN COMPLETING A MATH ASSIGNMENT ON PAPER, PLEASE WRITE THE PROBLEM AND

THE ANSWER. The only time you do not have to write a problem is when it is a word problem.

When you have a word problem, you must write the equation needed to solve the problem and

the answer. (Your equation will show the problem needed to solve the word problem and then

of course, your answer.) **

**Remember there are multiple ways to view your math book: Showbie, Pearson Realize

(PearsonRealize.com), Realize Reader app (rr), and the Books app once you download Topic 8. [I

think the easiest way to view the book is to download it to the Books app.] **

I have assigned videos from Pearson Realize too, but it seems that at times it is difficult to view

them. There are other videos to watch.

**All religion assignments sent via Showbie, can be completed directly on Showbie. Select

‘done’ when you complete the assignment and it will send back to me automatically. **

**Important note about assignments: Assignments will be available on Showbie beginning at

8:00 am on the day they are to be completed. **

TEKS: 9A and 9B Students will observe how living and nonliving things interact in an ecosystem

and will describe the flow of energy through food chains and food webs. Students will predict how

changes in the ecosystem will affect the food web.

Direct Teach/Independent Practice: The Pearson Realize Activities for today will give you the

opportunity to review and extend your knowledge of food webs. They will also help you prepare for your

Ecosystems test on Thursday.

1) Watch "What are food chains and food webs? 60-sec Video" and respond to the

2) Watch “Dependence within an Ecosystem Flipped Video” and respond to the question.

3) Participate in the “Where does it fit in the food web?” Interactivity.

TEKS: 4B Students will describe the growth, development, and impact of the Cattle Industry.

Direct Teach/Independent Practice: After the Civil War, the state of Texas once again

had very little money. However, they did have a valuable natural resource: cattle! The challenge

was how to get the cattle from the south where they were plentiful to the north where they were

needed.

help you prepare for your test on Thursday.

along with the Word Bank. However, you may go back to the text if necessary.

4) Did you get any of the Kahoot questions wrong yesterday? Did you have to take a guess in

order to answer some correctly? If so, go back to the eText (pages 384-409). Looking

that information up in context will be very helpful.

5) It will be good for everyone to go to Kahoot and play “Ecosystems” again. You will likely see

your score increase from yesterday.

You can use link from yesterday or open the Kahoot app on your iPad and use the same PIN.

off by a metal fence that has several metallic thorns on it? That there’s a barbed wire fence, partner! Texas

ranches have that type of fencing today because of the invention of Joseph Glidden. Read on!

3) Click Play (not login).

4) Follow the directions on how to play.

5) Post a comment in the assignment discussion to tell me about something you learned or

something you understand better about ecosystems after playing.

6) Post a new poto of your terrarium and compare the growth you observe now to the growth

you observed in the last photo.

throughout the history of the entire world, people have had different points of view that form their opinions.

Once ranchers began using the barbed wire fencing that Joseph Glidden invented, farmers, ranchers, and

cowboys had different points of view on that too. What opinion might each different type of person have on

this subject?

3) Review the articles “Ranching and a Changing Frontier” and "Joseph Glidden and his

Invention that Changed the West.”

4) Review the questions for each.

*Illustrate a Texas Farmer and a Texas Rancher or Cowboy in the appropriate spaces (that the

thought bubbles are coming from).

*In the space provided for their thoughts, write an opinion about barbed wire that each person

would have based on his or her point of view. Write a sentence or two for each person with important

details. If you need more space, you may write on another piece of paper or type in the assignment

discussion for today.
