Why should invest in → Da Vinci Resolve 9 ← for in-house Color Grading

* Special Note: This presentation is for the Davinci Resolve Software only, not the massive hardware that is also available for this system.

Why not Apple Color?vs.

We already have Apple Color right? So why Da Vinci Resolve? Here’s why:• Resolve is the Color Grading industry standard. It came out in 1982 (older

than me).

• Apple Color was released in 2009, as a “Consumer Color Grading Solution”.There are very little tutorials/lessons online for Apple Color. Most of the reviews I’ve seen basically say, “I use Resolve at the office with clients, I use Apple Color at home.”

• All of our current Color Grading is done in Resolve. Billy at uses Resolve to grade everything we bring him. So we know the quality and what to expect. Again, this is the industry standard software.

• Presets. Resolve comes with a library of preset “looks” that have been built up over the 20+ years it has been around, mostly added by pro Hollywood colorists. This often make is easier that starting from scratch.

• MOST IMPORTANT: Apple Color will be dead soon. The last version/update for Apple Color was in 2010. There will be no new updates. Since Final Cut X came out, they included limited Color-like controls INTO Final Cut X, so they stopped updating Color. Forever. Resolve is constantly updating/upgrading.

Why not Apple Color?

vs.

Here is a great review comparing Apple Color vs Da Vinci Resolve that goes into a little more technical detail. Here are some quick points it talks about:• Resolve has faster image processing/rendering and tracking.

• Color does not support all video formats and cameras (like the Red Epic).

• Resolve is “node” based, which provides a much smoother/faster workflow.

• Color is meant for ONLY working with Final Cut. Resolve works with Final Cut, as well as all other editing software.

• Apple Color is dying. (No new updates)

Overall, this presentation is not just for Sean to learn Color Grading.

(even though I’d kick ass at it)

It’s about helping Spots grow, and and expanding what we can do in-house.

FOR THE LOVE OF !!!

Resolve has been around so long and it is so widely used, that there are tons of resources to learn it and find tutorials/lessons.

Here is page with several of free tutorials.

And if we are able, here is a $100 video series tutorial which I could take that goes into even more depth.
