Peabody first visited Craggy Range at the tender age of 12 and experienced the vineyards and winery first hand, he knew immediately it was something he wanted to be involved in. But when David told his grandfather, Terry Peabody, of his aspirations a few years later he had to prove he was serious. David accepted his grandfather’s challenge and took a part-time role at a local fine wine store while he completed a Bachelor of Business at Queensland University of Technology. After graduating in 2010 and with newfound knowledge of the fine wine world, Terry Peabody agreed it was time for David to learn the ropes. David relocated to Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand and commenced working in the Gimblett Gravels Vineyard and Cellar Door. These hands-on roles were the perfect introduction to the business with David then completing his first vintage in 2011 as Cellarhand. Being a part of the winemaking team and having a hand in crafting wines offered David extensive knowledge of the single vineyard philosophy. David’s breadth and knowledge continued to grow before moving into the role of Viticultural Technical Assistant at the Gimblett Gravels Vineyard . In 2012, David returned home to Brisbane taking up the role of Queensland Account Manager where he was responsible for working with fine wine merchants and dining establishments across Australia to extend the distribution network further. More recently David relocated to Singapore to build on the growing Asian market and will continue to drive the Craggy Range philosophy and brand. As the third generation working in the business, David returns to Craggy Range multiple times per year to celebrate key milestones such as the annual Deep Purple Wine Club and vintage blending sessions with the remainder of the family.
