(a) The Triumphant Entry

(b) The Last Supper

(c) Jesus on the Cross

(d) Empty Tomb

Station Activities:

The Easter Story is divided into 4 portions, namely (a) The Triumphant Entry, (b) The Last Supper (c)

Jesus on the Cross and (d) Empty Tomb. During story time, the room will be divided into 4 stations, with

each station telling one portion of the story. The children will “travel” from one station to another,

listening to the Easter Story as it unfolds in a “time-line” fashion.

As children of this age group learns well by repetition, telling the same story over the period of 4 weeks

will help them to remember it. Team Leaders should try to assign leaders to attempt to teach a different

portion of the story each week so that at the end of the 4th week, all the leaders would have learned to

share the full Easter Story.

Important skill that children will be learning in all 4 stations - Association of sound to the sequencing

of the story.

As a way to reinforce and to bring up this skill for the children, on 3rd week and 4th week of this series,

we will be using the different sounds in this story for you to start each station.

Station Activity #1 – The Triumphant Entry

Children will be led through the entire scene of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Activities that children will be doing:

- They will see “Jesus riding on a donkey” plastic picture. - They will be given ‘coats’ to lay down for Jesus to ride over. - They also will be given ‘palm leaves’ to wave or put on the floor for Jesus to walk on. - They will be led to shout ‘Hosanna! Hosanna! to the King of David!’

Logistics needed:

TC – 2 sets logistic, Suntec – 1 set logistic

1. “Jesus riding on a donkey” laminated picture cards – 2 pcs 2. Pre-cut laminated Palm Leaves picture cards – 15 pcs 3. Pre-cut laminated Coats picture cards- 15 pcs 4. Sound clip on thumb drive - Clippety-clop

Ldr 1: We are going to hear about the

story of Easter today. Are all the

children seated and ready?

Ldr 2: Direct children to sit in a

circle. Engage the leaders or

parents or kakas to assist you. Keep

the props in the middle of the

circle.

To make sure

that you have

everything you

need with you

Ldr 1: Let’s begin—In our Bible story,

Jesus went to Jerusalem. He entered

the city on a donkey! When a donkey

moves, the sound goes like this:

“Clippety-clop, clippety-clop”. Now, I

want all the children and leaders to

make the “Clippety-clop, clippety-clop”

sound as Jesus entered into Jerusalem

on the donkey.

Ldr 2: Move the “Jesus on donkey”

picture along the floor round the

circle formed by the children. Be

careful not to get too near to the

children as they might reach out to

grab the picture. Remember to also

make the “Clippety-clop, clippety-

clop” sound as the picture moves.

Ldr 1: The people were excited to see

Jesus and wanted to welcome Him. (Let

me see your excited face) Some people

spread their coats on the road. This

showed that they welcomed Jesus as if

He were a king.

Ldr 2: Give out “coats” picture

cards to children and direct them

to lay the “coats” down on the

floor. Use the “Jesus on donkey”

picture card and move it around

the “coats”.

Walk the picture card round the

circle formed by the children.

Direct children to stay seated and

that Jesus will be coming to them

soon.

Ldr 1: Other people cut branches from

palm trees and laid them on the road

for Jesus’ donkey to walk on. What a

happy day it was!

Ldr 2: Give out the “branches”

picture cards to the children and

direct them to lay the branches

down on the floor.

‘Jesus on donkey’ picture card to

go around the circle a second time.

Ldr 1: Some people ran ahead to tell

other, “Jesus is coming! Jesus is

coming!” And even more people came

to see Jesus. They laughed and sang.

Ldr 2: Encourage the children to

say together with Ldr 1 that “Jesus

is coming”

Nil

Ldr 1: They shouted “Hosanna!

Hosanna!” (“Hosanna” means “please

save us” and was shouted to praise

someone.)

Ldr 2: Direct children to pick up

and wave palm leaves and to shout

“Hosanna! Hosanna to the King!”

while you continue to walk “Jesus”

on a puppet donkey around the

circle.

Ldr 1: It is pack up time! Come let’s

return all the “leaves” and “coats”.

Ldr 2: Help to collect back all the

visual aids from the children.

Additional Activity for Week 3 & 4 only: To help the children to associate the sounds that are in

station 1, please do the below activity before you teach at the next station.

Ldr 1: Now let’s see if we

can remember the story. Tell

me what is happening when

I say “Clippety-clop,

clippety-clop”.

Children should be able

to respond by telling

you that Jesus is

entering Jerusalem on a

donkey

Ldr 2: Move “Jesus on donkey” puppet

along the floor when the children

answer correctly

Ldr 1: Very good children,

now tell me what is

happening when I say:

“Hosanna! Hosanna to the

King!”

Children should be able

to answer you by saying

that the people are

welcoming Jesus

Ldr 2: Direct children to pick up and

wave the palm leaves and to shout

“Hosanna! Hosanna to the King!”

while you continue to walk the “Jesus

on donkey” puppet around the circle.

Station Activity #2 – The Last Supper

Children will be introduced to the Holy Communion meal or The Last Supper as the Lord served it on the

night he was betrayed. The symbolism of the bread and the wine will be told to the children. The

children will not partake the Holy Communion elements because they have not yet said the sinner’s

prayer, but will watch the leaders and adult partaking them as part of the teaching or role model for

children. (Please do not give the Holy Communion elements to kakas or parents who are not believers).

Logistics needed for Role Play:

1. Holy Communion cups (small plastic cup) 2. The 3 laminated pictures (Basket of bread, individual bread and Jug) 3. Masking Tapes (to fold them as double sided tape and paste them on the ‘broken’ bread) 4. Red permanent markers (to paint over the “communion cup”, to look like filled with wine)

Basket of bread Individual bread

Jug

Skills (Children): Focusing, self-control, listening to instructions, vocabulary and pretend play

Skills (Leaders): Conducting communion, storytelling, team teaching, usage of props.

Role Play (Scripture text is taken from Matthew 26:26-27 (NIV)):

Leader: Children, after Jesus entered into Jerusalem, He and His 12 disciples had supper or dinner

together. This was to be Jesus’ last supper before He died on the cross. (take out the “baskets of bread”)

After giving thanks, Jesus took the bread and broke it and said, “Take and eat; this is my Body” (to break

the bread and please highlight the “cracking” sound as you tear the bread from the “basket”) Then He

took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to all His disciples, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my

Blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (hold the cup and drink

and make sipping sound).

Partaking of Holy Communion (to be distributed out by leader who is teaching in the small group):

Logistics needed:

1. Holy Communion elements: 60 elements per week (TC), 36 elements per week (Suntec)

2. Plastic bag (for disposing of used cups)

Leader: This meal is a very serious meal called Holy Communion and only Christians who believe that

Jesus died on the Cross for them can take this meal. In our church, when we take the Holy Communion

we are given this (show the children the Holy Communion cup with biscuit and grape juice). When

Christians eat this bread and drink this cup, we are remembering the death of Jesus until He comes

again so now I am going to give this Holy Communion element to those adults here who have Jesus in

our hearts and have said the sinner’s prayer. (Leaders please check with parents and kakas whether

they are believers. Only give the elements to those who are Christians.) Adults, we are going to have

our Holy Communion here in David Club. Children, you are to watch quietly as we partake the Holy

Communion.

(Leaders, please note that the children, most kakas and some pre-believing parents are not partaking

because they have not yet said the sinner’s prayer, so do not give the Holy Communion elements to

them. Do explain to all.)

Leader to distribute the Holy Communion elements and then say the below prayer:

“Jesus we thank you for dying on the Cross for our sins. We want to continue to love and serve You. In

Jesus name we pray. Amen!” (Then instruct every adult to partake the Holy Communion element)

Additional Activity for Week 3 & 4 only: To help children to associate the sounds that are in station 2,

please do the below activity before you teach in this station.

Ldr 1: Now let’s see if we can remember the story. Tell me what is happening when I make the “Cracking Sound?”

Children should be able to respond by telling you that it is the breaking of the bread.

Ldr 2: Demonstrate the breaking of the bread.

Ldr 1: Very good children, now tell me what is happening when I am making the “Sipping sound?”

Children should be able to answer you by saying that you are drinking the wine at the Communion.

Ldr 2: Demonstrate the drinking of the wine.

Station Activity #3 – Jesus On the Cross (Experiential Learning)

Children will be taught what sin is and that we need Jesus to save us from our sins. In this station, we

will highlight three sins that this age group struggles with namely disobedience, anger and selfishness.

They will be encouraged to bring these “sins” to Jesus, by sticking these sin

labels on the cross.

Logistics needed:

1. Board with picture of the cross. 2. Plastic figurine of Jesus #1 3. Stickers with the words “Disobey”, “Anger” and “Selfish” (new sets must

be replaced weekly) 4. 3 units of thumb tacks 5. Stapler and a pen (this is to create nail hammering sound) 6. Sound clip on thumb drive – nail hammering sound

Skills (Children): Focusing, self-control, listening to instruction and fine motor skills (pasting of stickers)

Script for Leader Actions

Ldr 1: Children, I have two leaders here. This is

mummy and this is Tommy. Mummy asks Tommy

to come over here, but Tommy refuses. Now when

Tommy says “No”, he is disobeying his mum.

When we disobey anyone who is taking care of us,

we are sinning against God!

I have disobeyed my mum too! ____________

(Name of Leader) has also sinned! Sin is choosing

to do what we want!

Ldr 2: Hold up the “Disobey” sticker and

paste it onto self.

Ldr 1: Have you disobeyed too? Yes? Then you

have sinned too! Paste on yourself like what

Auntie / Uncle (Name of Leader) did.

Ldr 2: Give out “Disobey” stickers” and

direct children to also paste onto

themselves.

Ldr 1: This is the Anger sin sticker. Have you ever

been angry when you don’t get what you want?

(Now all show me angry faces) Yup! That is sin too.

Ldr 2: Hold up the “Anger” stickers and

paste onto self. Give out to children and

direct them to paste onto themselves.

Ldr 1: Have you ever snatched someone’s toys?

(get someone to do the role play) Have you ever

been selfish and refused to share? Oh dear… that

is sin too!

Ldr 2: Hold up the “Selfish” stickers and

paste onto self. Give out to children and

direct them to paste on themselves

Ldr 1: Oh dear, we are so full of sins. We cannot

save ourselves. We need help! We need Jesus to

save us!

Ldr 2: Nod and agree with Ldr 1

Ldr 1: Jesus is able to take away our sins because

when He was nailed on the cross and died, our sins

were paid for. Jesus died on the cross to take away

our sins – all the bad things that we had done.

Ldr 1: Make nail hammering sound as Ldr 2 “nails”

the thumb tacks. Jesus’ hands and legs were nailed

on the cross and it was painful (more hammering

sound). But Jesus loved us so much that He

willingly bear our sins in pain.

Ldr 2: Using the 3 thumb tacks nail one

thumb tack onto the right wrist, the second

one onto His left wrist and the third one

onto His feet

Ldr 1: Come let’s ask Jesus to save us. If you know

you have disobeyed or are angry easily or have

been selfish, and you know Jesus loves you and

want to take away your sins. You can pray this

prayer after me, line by line. (Note: This is the

moment we can lead David Club children to Jesus)

“Dear Jesus, Thank you for loving me. I am so

sorry I have sinned by doing all the bad things.

Please forgive me and save me. Please take away

my sins. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Ldr 2: Direct children to bow their heads

and close their eyes and fold their hands

together.

Ldr 1: Yes, Jesus will take away our sins. This

means our sins can be removed. Jesus can take

away our sins. Here children, come and paste your

sin stickers unto Jesus.

Ldr 2: Hold up the picture of Jesus and let

the children paste their sin stickers onto

Him.

Ldr 1: We have no more sins! Who has our sins

now? Jesus! Jesus has taken away our sins and put

it upon Himself. “Yeah!” “Yeah!” Only Jesus has

the power to do that; “Behold the Lamb of God

that takes away the sin of the world!”

(1 John 1:29, NIV)

Ldr 2: Point to Jesus on the cross.

Ldr 1: Come let’s thank Jesus together. Repeat

after me: “Dear Jesus, thank you for dying on the

cross for me. Thank you and I love You always.”

Ldr 2: Direct children to bow their heads

and close their eyes and fold their hands

together

Additional Activity for Week 3 & 4 only: To help children to associate the sounds that are in station 3,

please do the below activity before you teach in this station.

Ldr 1: Now let’s see if we can

remember the story. Tell me what is

happening when I make the “nail

Memory Verse Time (to be done by TLs in big group) :

The children in your group may face difficulty memorizing the verse for the first two weeks, but by the

third week onwards, they should get the hang of it. To be successful in this, TLs will need to get familiar

with the actions and wording first before you stand in front of the children.
