The systems will autonomously capture license plate numbers with corresponding location and time information to be stored in a secure central database. Law enforcement will be able to access this database which in turn will aid in the apprehension and surveillance of persons of interest as well as aid in the search and recovery efforts of abductees Automated Vehicle Tracking System (AVTS) AVTS Hardware AVTS High-Level Block Diagram Conclusion AVTS, upon full implementation, will greatly improve the process of locating and rescuing abductees efficiently, thus saving lives. The prototype has proven the concept is achievable within relatively low costs. Overall, AVTS presents a tool providing law enforcement the potential to be one step ahead of the criminal. The AVTS team would like to acknowledge and thank all faculty and staff members who were consulted throughout the conception, design, and implementation phases of the project. Specifically the team would like to thank Professor August Allo for his guidance and insight in the prototyping process from an original idea to a functioning paradigm. Currently the most common tool put into place for such cases is the federally mandated AMBER alert. This however is an extremely sluggish and costly option as it can take several hours and cost thousands of dollars to fully implement. In an AMBER alert information about the suspect’s vehicle must be known and therefore becomes the strongest lead available. The team proposes a new tool, AVTS, that will aid in the apprehension of abductors and the rescue of abductees in the event that vehicular information is known. In addition to child abduction cases, this system will aid in any instance where law enforcement must track down a specific vehicle quickly.
