FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome back everyone, to the last term for the year. The term has started very well with teachers and students working hard to finalise learning programs, as well as turn our thoughts towards reporting, swimming lessons and end of year arrangements.
Coming up in November are two very important presentations, firstly for our Year 9 and 10 parents and students as they look to gaining their Learners Permit and Drivers Licence, followed by a light supper, and then a presentation for all Parents and Community Members called ‘Talking Drugs’.
Presenting these two informative sessions will be Rose Power, who is the School Drug Education and Road Aware Consultant for the Wheatbelt North area. I look forward to seeing the Yr 9/10 parents at the first presentation and then as many parents and community members as possible at the supper and following ‘Talk for Drugs’ session.
Just a reminder that this term Mr Everett will be working from Monday – Wednesday, then Mrs Calderbank will take on the Deputy Principal role each Thursday, and Mrs Beaton each Friday.
AttendanceThank you to those Parents who are responding to the Messageyou sms sent when their children are absent, or for using it to notify us of absences or other information. This tool assists us greatly and I hope it makes life a bit easier for you!

FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Term 4
Traditionally, Term 4 is always a term that is full of wonderful activities and opportunities to learn something new. Whether it is a reflection on a student’s achievement and effort during class or their successes in extra-curricular activities outside of school, I am confident that all students have something to be proud of following the 2018 school year. If a student is struggling to think or remember something that they are proud of, there is still time left to create some memorable moments and produce some terrific work in their classes.
Birds of Prey Incursion
On Monday the 15th of October, our school was visited by Yvonne Sitko who showed our students some of her fantastic birds. Our students were able to see a variety of Owls, a Falcon and an Eagle. Yvonne also cares for ‘Auzzie the Eagle’, the West Coast Eagles pre-show spectacle, although due to its size and temperament, it remained in Perth.
Regards,
Michael Everett

Athletics
In term 3 students across the school trained for and trialled for athletics as part of their PE lessons, in preparation for both the YSSSA and Interschool carnivals.
On Friday the 31st August the YSSSA carnival took place with students from Pre-primary to Year 6 participating as Centaur and Phoenix, against Moorine Rock and St Josephs. A great day was had by all students with many examples of sportsmanship, persistence and support seen throughout the day.
We had many of our students from both Centaur and Phoenix achieve outstanding individual results for the day.
The following Tuesday a team of students from Pre-primary to Year 10, travelled to Bruce Rock for the WADHS Interschool carnival where they competed against students from Kulin, Corrigin, Bruce Rock and Narembeen.
It was a busy day with jumps and throws taking place in the morning, followed by the various running races, team games relays and finishing with the 1500m event. The team competed hard throughout the day with many students going up into older age groups for the team games. Well done!
This year we finished 5th in the outright placing and 2nd in the handicap; we had 8 students come away with individual awards for their age groups. Congratulations! Another big congratulations, to Taine Kings for beating the shot put record and becoming the first Southern Cross record holder.

Without the help of many people carnivals like these would not
happen. Thank you to all the parents who helped out at one or both of the carnivals, the staff
members who supervised bays and ensured students got to their events, and the Shire of Yilgarn for the use of the oval facility and marking the oval.
