National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence Friday 16 March The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools in 2018. This year, schools are called to imagine a world free from bullying and share their ideas on how to make this happen. At WRSS we say BULLYING. NO WAY! And ‘SPEAK. EVEN IF YOUR VOICE SHAKES!’ Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Please come and join us on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00pm in the hall where we will come together and celebrate the wonderful diversity of our student body. POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PBL) FOCUS The PBL Focus for this fortnight is being safe, respectful and doing the High 5.

We expect our students to: keep their hands and their feet to themselves solve problems using the High 5 Use kind words Allow others to join in Follow adult instructions Take turns

What is the High 5?

• The High 5 is a strategy you can use to help solve problems you may be having with another person.

• EXAMPLE: if someone is calling you names, teasing, pulling faces at you… There are 5 steps…Ignore, talk friendly, talk firmly, walk away and report. (one for each finger)

• The High 5 helps us to be resilient when dealing with problems ourselves

Reading Strategy for the Fortnight Ask questions and look for answers before,

during, and after reading.

Find the answers for… Who, What, Where,

Why, When and How.

Our Attendance Bear: Detective Watson Detective Watson now has a travel journal and we look forward to reading all about his adventures each week.

Lions PREP and Year 1/2 WALT: Use 2D shapes and lines to create artwork. We used shapes like rectangles, triangles and circles to draw our lions. We then used different lines (straight, wavy and zigzag) to create the lions main. After we finished drawing we painted our lions using warm colours.

DRAGONS 4/5/6 E and C WALT: Use and identify the elements of art in our work. In English the senior classes are exploring the book “Dragons Quest” We used this topic to combine what we have been learning about the

elements line, shape, colour and texture to create our own dragons.

CATS/DOGS 2/3 WALT: Use lines, shape and colour to create abstract artwork. We used our understanding of 2D and organic shapes to draw an abstract cat or dog. Once we had our outline we used different lines to create patterns. Thin and thick lines helped to create emphasis which makes parts of our art stand out. After we used warm colours for our pets and a cool colour for the background. Again this added emphasis to our pet making.

Harmony Day Parade 2017

Today is National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence

Australian schools stand united in their communities to celebrate National Day

of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA).

Here are some ways of getting help.

Help from someone you know You don't need to be alone with bullying. There are people who can listen and

help. It is really important to tell someone who can help. You can talk to:

a teacher, guidance officer or school counsellor

someone in your family – aunt, uncle, grandparent

a friend who could help you.

If things don't get better after you've told someone, tell them again or tell a different person. There is always someone who can

help.

Someone else to talk to If you want to talk to someone else about what's happening, you can contact:

Kids Helpline provides free, private and confidential, telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people

aged between 5 and 25 and helpful information about relationship topics.

ReachOut.com provides an online youth mental health service and information, stories and a support network of other young

people who have been through tough personal situations.

eheadspace also offers online chat or email support services for young people aged 12–25, as well as their family and

friends. You can call them on 1800 650 890. It is a free call. The eheadspace team are available between 9am – 1am (AEDT) 7

days a week.

If you're outside of Australia, you can go to Child Helpline International to find a helpline in your country. Click on the 'Where We

Work' tab. A world map will appear. Then click on your country and a list of child helplines that you can call in your country for

help now will appear.

Reporting serious online bullying If a person under 18 has experienced serious online bullying, the material can be reported to the Office of the eSafety

Commissioner. The site also provides information on how to report online bullying directly to the social media service.
