BIKE EDUCATION

During Bike Education the students have

been learning a range of bicycle and road

safety skills. These have included how to

effectively use brakes, where to position the

bike for safe riding on the road and signalling

when turning or stopping.

We have three Bike Education sessions remaining, followed by

the annual Bike Ride to English’s Bridge on Tuesday 27th

October.

We would love to have some parents to ride with our group or

drive support vehicles for the Bike Ride to English’s Bridge.

Thanks to those who have already offered to help! If you are

able to assist please let me know.

Attached to today’s newsletter are further details about the

Bike Ride on Tuesday 27th October, a permission form and

lunch order form (see below).

SPECIAL LUNCH ORDERS—TUESDAY 27TH OCTOBER

Tuesday 27th October is Bike Ride day for the Grade Three-Six

students. As such, we are offering lunch orders on this day.

Prep-Two and Grade Three-Six students are able to order.

Attached to today’s newsletter is a Lunch Order Form to be

returned to the school.

RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN 2016

There have been some changes announced by the Government

regarding the delivery of Religious Instruc;on in schools. For

parents with a student enrolled in Religious Instruc;on there is

a short ques;onnaire accompanying today’s newsle6er. We

ask that you please look at this, complete and return to the

school to help us with planning for 2016.

GRADE FIVE-SIX CANBERRA CAMP

A reminder that the cost of this year’s Grade Five-Six Canberra

camp is $417.75, less the $50 deposit which has already been

paid. It is Goornong PS policy that all camps are paid in full

prior to the camp. We ask that the Canberra Camp payment be

finalised by Friday 13th November. The camp runs from

Monday 23rd—Friday 27th November.

I encourage parents to come and see me should payment for

camp be a concern as it is our school’s belief that no students

should miss out on camps due to finances. Joanne and I are

happy to talk with you about flexible op;ons to ensure your

child is able to a6end.

GRADE SIX GRADUATION DINNER

For parents of Grade Six students, please find a6ached to

today’s newsle6er details of this year’s Gradua;on Dinner to

be held at the Drovers Arms Hotel on the evening of Tuesday

8th December.

Principal’s Report 2016 SCHOOL YEAR

Our school has begun planning for the 2016 school year.

This includes planning around the structure of the school in

relation to classrooms, teachers and support staff. The

number of students attending the school has a significant

impact on our planning for 2016 as school funding is directly

linked to the number of enrolments. As such, I ask that

those parents intending to enrol their child at Goornong PS

in 2016 please now return their enrolment form. Enrolment

forms are available from the school should you require one.

I also ask that parents please contact me if they are not

intending to send their child to Goornong PS in 2016.

HEAD LICE INSPECTIONS

Head lice inspections were conducted yesterday at school

and the result of your child’s inspection was sent home. I

wish to thank all parents for their vigilance in regularly

checking their child’s hair for head lice and treating for eggs

and live lice where necessary. This has meant that we have

had very few cases of head lice at the school this year.

I also wish to thank our dedicated team of volunteer parents

who conduct the head lice inspections—thanks for your

efforts!

HOURS OF SUPERVISION

A reminder that the hours of supervision at Goornong PS

begin at 8.30am. We ask that students do not arrive at

school prior to 8.30am as we are not able to meet our duty

of care in terms of supervision of the students prior to this

time. We thank parents for their cooperation with this.

LODDON MALLEE REGION ATHLETIC SPORTS

Congratulations to Molly who competed in the

girls 10yo shot put at the Loddon Mallee

Regional Athletic Sports in Bendigo on Monday.

Molly came second in her event, ‘putting’ a

distance of 6.52m. Molly will now compete at the School

Sport Victoria State Track and Field Championships in

Melbourne on 26th October—well done Molly!

SCHOOL COUNCIL

The next mee;ng of our School Council is on Monday 12th

October, beginning at 7.00pm. Finance Commi6ee will meet

at 6.30pm.

world is at the feet of an elderly person.”

Garden Science Program.

All the students did a wonderful job mulching lots of garden beds around the school. Top

marks for demonstra;ng team work and persistence. A big thank you to Les Varker for weed-

ing the gardens. The prep to two students also worked hard mulching the gardens, using a

"flock of chooks" method to spread the mulch. A very innova;ve method to spread mulch

without access to large rakes.

GRADE PREP-TWO EXCURSION

We are excited to announce that this year’s Grade Prep-

Two excursion is to the Golden Dragon Chinese Museum

and Botanical Gardens in Bendigo. This excursion aligns

with our Chinese Language Program.

On the day the students will par;cipate in a range of

ac;vi;es related to Chinese Culture, including a Chinese

craJ workshop, guided tour of the museum, explora;on

of the Chinese precinct and the opportunity to sample

some Chinese cuisine using chops;cks. The students will

also be visi;ng the Botanical Gardens for lunch.

The group will be travelling by bus for this excursion,

depar;ng Goornong PS at 9.15am and returning at

about 2.45pm. There is no cost for this excursion.

There is a limited number of spots available for parents

who would like to join us and help out on the day. As

was publicised earlier in the year in the newsle6er, our

school now requires parents a6ending excursions to

hold a valid Working With Children Card. If you hold a

valid WWCC card and would like to join us on this excur-

sion please see me ASAP.

A permission note for this excursion was a6ached to last

week’s newsle6er.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any ques;ons.
