PRINCIPALS REPORT
Have a fantastic weekend and once again thank you.

Walk-a-thon It was absolutely fantastic to watch the students, teachers and parents participating in the Walk-a-thon fundraising event that we held on Tuesday afternoon. Shane Pearton decided that if I jogged a lap he would donate $20:00. Well I was all up for the challenge and my not so in shape and aging body did complete a lap jogging. What I found really amazing about this experience was that the students at our school were so enthusiastic, persistent and encouraging. It bought a tear to my eye hearing them encourage not only me but their peers. Is it any wonder I love where I work.
MS Readathon The MS Readathon is being held from August 1
st to 31
st. If you wish your child to
participate in this cause you can find more information or register at www.msreadathon.org.au. We also have a few forms available at the school office.
Darrelyn Returns I would once again like to thank the school community for their support while I have been in the Acting Principal role. It is such a big job with a great many different roles. No day is ever the same. I really enjoy learning all the different things that are required of the position but am also really looking forward to Darrelyn’s return on Monday. I can’t wait to hear about all of her adventures and am sure that she will be sharing lots of these with
Ramingining Trip The countdown is well and truly on, this coming Tuesday afternoon Shane Pearton, Ross Woolger and I will be heading off to the Northern Territory. This year we will be accompanied by Taleisha, Vanessa, Abbey, Abbey, Jayden, Maddy, Hannah, Gerry and Brianna. Our first few days will be spent around Darwin and Litchfield, then on Saturday the 15th August we will be flying in to Ramingining where we will spend the next week 8 days living in the community. On our return to Darwin we will then head into Kakadu for a few days before returning to Darwin and then home. We can’t wait to share our experiences with the whole school when we return. About a week after our return we will be welcoming the Ramo mob who will spend about 10 days with us. Do keep an eye out for notes coming home and information in the newsletter about events that everyone can be involved in whilst the Ramingining students are here. Hopefully we can bring back some warmer weather on our return.
Planning Week I really enjoy getting out and chatting to parents after school, whilst chatting with some parents it became apparent that some of our families are not aware of how and why we run Planning weeks. Our Planning week schedule is - at the start and end of term 1 to plan for term 1 & term 2, start and end of term three to plan for term 3 and term 4. We do not have Planning week in term two and four as we have report writing. Our planning days are used for us to work in our teams and plan the activities and learning for the year. On planning days the students have all their specialist subjects that would normally be spread out over the week in one day, this way we ensure the students are not missing out on any teaching time. This is only the start of the planning process, as teachers plan weekly out of school hours with their team as well. If you ever have any questions regarding these types of days or anything please do not hesitate to ask us.
Spare Clothes This term there has been more accidents than normal with students falling in mud or getting wet. We do ask that all students carry a change of clothes in their school bags for such occasions. We have a very limited number of spare uniforms at the sick bay and request that if your child uses these they are washed and returned to school in a timely manner. If you are looking for a place to send any good condition old uniforms, we would welcome them in the sick bay.

*Kids Artwork Fundraiser this term
PFA are running a fantastic Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser this term. Your family will be sent one box of Cadbury Chocolates to sell. Selling price for the chocolates is $1.00 each or 5 for $5.00.
There is a collection envelope in each box of chocolates to place your money. This price is excellent value, and all profits will go to the students at our school. We suggest you could sell them to family
members, friends, neighbors, or take them to your workplace. If children are selling the chocolates – please make sure they are adequately supervised. The money from the sale of the box of chocolates
($50.00) is to be returned to the Office by Thursday 27th August. If you would like extra boxes of Cadbury Chocolates to sell, please ask at the Office.
PFA will be giving a prize to the Student who sells the most Cadbury Chocolates & returns the money to the Office by Thursday 27th August.
The next PFA Meeting will be held on Friday 14th August at 2pm at Brekky Club. Please come along
and help us get organized for our Fathers Day Stall, plan our other fundraising events and to help plan our Carnival.
PFA will hold a Free Dress Spinning Wheel / Grocery Days on
Friday 14th August in preparation for making hampers for our School Carnival (to be held 4th Term). Notes will be sent home soon….
Our Fathers Day Stall will be held Thursday 3rd September. We have ordered lots of amazing products from within Australia, and from
all over the world so the students can get their Dads, Grandpas, Pops, Special Person something wonderful for Fathers Day. Items will range
between $1 and $10.
The Kids Artwork Fundraiser will be held a bit earlier this year, to help you plan & get organized for your Christmas list….. There will be Calenders, Diaries, Notebooks, Mouse Mats all with your own childs
artwork professionally printed on them. Wendy Dene has already done lots and lots of work with the students to make sure their artwork is absolutely
stunning…… Thankyou Wendy ☺☺☺☺ We have some FANTASTIC news to share with you- Woolworths Earn and Learn is back!! The Earn and Learn program is a wonderful opportunity for our school to ‘earn’ points that we can redeem with one of the leading school supply stores. These points will be shared across the school and will allow levels to get ‘bonus’ items that they would like. We need your help though. We have set a target of 20, 000 points. Which means that as of Wednesday the 15
th of July, when the earn
and learn program opens at all Woolworths stores we would love it if your family, extended family, neighbor’s etc. could collect stickers for our school. These stickers can be sent to school, either on a sticker card or we will put them onto a card. The Earn and Learn
program will run until Tuesday the 8th of September.
This gives us 55 days to collect as many stickers as we can. We can do it!! We will let you know, via the website our weekly total. So make sure you start collecting the stickers. Remember every $10 spent earns you a sticker. Thank you for your participation. Sarah Wintle

The cheap and cheerful conditioner head lice treatment You can buy prepared chemical solutions in bottles, but with head lice resistance a common problem, university researchers and schools recommend the cheap conditioner and comb cure for head lice. You need to know before you begin:
• Wear gloves.
• All combs should soak in hot water and disinfectant after use.
• Lice die in hot water at 60C in 30 seconds.
• Scrub the combs and check that they are clean before reuse.
• Try to use a very fine comb, and after use you will need to scrub it with an old hard toothbrush and
perhaps a pin or dental floss used to remove eggs caught in the base of the comb. Check in good light
that the job is done properly.
It does need to be followed precisely to be effective:
• Apply plain white conditioner liberally to dry hair.
• Cover scalp to the ends of the hair.
• De-tangle hair with regular comb - if you do it with the nit comb straight away, your child will squeal
and never co-operate again!
• Leave conditioner in hair for five minutes
• Separate hair into sections.
• Comb through with the fine comb.
• Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a tissue and look for lice and eggs (nits).
• Remove all nits to assure total lice treatment.
• Rinse conditioner from hair and clean the fine comb in accordance with instructions above.
• Repeat this if active cases of head lice reappear. They do come back! Check your child's hair regularly.
