PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Grade 4 Ride for Rick Camp

The grade four students have been excitedly preparing for the Ride for Rick Bike Camp through the bike education program held at school during terms two and three. The group will leave school this morning and return tomorrow afternoon at approximately 4.00PM. The students and staff will ride along the Bass Trail for approximately 44kms, from Buffalo to Foster Primary School where they will stay overnight in their multi purpose room. In advance, I would like to express my appreciation to the volunteers and staff who will be accompanying our children whom without these camp experiences could not occur. Thank you to the teachers, particularly Shane Pearton for the work involved in organising the camp to ensure that the children have a wonderful time.

Days of Extreme Heat

With only a few weeks until the onset of summer, I feel that it is timely to remind parents of our policy that relates to days of extreme heat. At our school we implement the policy as developed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development that ensures the children's wellbeing on days where the temperature is very high. Under this policy, the children's lunch time in the hot afternoon can be reduced by 30 minutes.

We ask all parents to check the forecast before school on the 8.00AM news bulletin on the morning of a day where the temperature is expected to reach 38 degrees or above. Irrespective of whether the expected temperature reaches that forecast for the day, if the prediction before school is for temperatures of 38 degrees or above, the children will be dismissed at 3.00PM. The children will have a shortened lunch break to ensure that there is no disruption to learning time. All teachers are on duty until the normal time, so if the amendment to the dismissal time causes any hardship please write a note to explain that your children are to remain at school until 3.30PM. If supervision of your children is required on a permanent basis, one note will be sufficient. Please indicate in your letter that this is a permanent arrangement. If no note is received it will be assumed that your child will be dismissed at the earlier time of 3.00PM. The children who will be going to After School Care will be supervised by teaching staff until the After School Care program commences at 3.30PM.

I would like to remind all parents that the school has a very detailed Counter Disaster Plan that ensures the safety of the children in the event of any disaster. Fire drills are a normal part of our summer routine!

Remembrance Day

Next Friday, the 11th November 2016, all students will walk to the Cockatoo RSL, on Belgrave-Gembrook Road to participate in the Remembrance Day service. This year the students will be led by a piper playing the Scottish bagpipes. All students will be invited to place a poppy in a special planter box filled with sand. Our school captains will read a poem regarding the battle on Flanders Fields.

The students will arrive at the RSL at approximately 10.30 in time for the ceremony to commence at 10.45PM. After the ceremony the students will walk back to school.

Carols Night

The school’s annual Carols Night will be held on Monday 12th December 2016. The PFA will provide food from 5PM and the concert will commence at 6.30PM. Due to the school production this year the format of the concert will change slightly for this year. Each grade of students will lead a carol from the stage

Does your child love to sing? One of the school mothers is recording an original song and would like to enlist the help of some local children to sing backing vocals. If your child is interested in taking part, please collect a form from the office. Thank you
