Schools are dynamic “people organizations” and it is through the support and goodwill of many people that we are able to offer our varied and challenging educational programs. A big thank you to our teaching and support staff - they are a dedicated, professional team who are extremely supportive of each other and are committed to ensuring the positive growth and wellbeing of every child in the school. A special thank you to the children for their industrious efforts and the positive manner in which they approach their school life. Thank you to the members of the School Council whose voluntary commitment to the school makes an enormous difference. Many other people too numerous to name individually have helped through volunteering their time and skills in supporting school programs and activities, by supporting fund raising, by contributing time and effort at school functions and activities and by being involved in the life of the school in so many other ways. The sum of this effort is a magnificent contribution to making the school an even better educational environment for all. So…. From all of us!! We thank and farewell a number of staff who will not be with us in 2011. Ms Judith Medley is taking leave prior to retirement in 2011: Ms Sarah Mendham has completed her contract with us and is moving to

a position at Anula Primary School; Ms Claude Collins has also completed her contract with us; Ms Maryam Islam will be on leave for all of 2011and Ms

Annette Harris (Pre-School) also remains on leave for Semester 1 due to family circumstances. Thank you most sincerely to these staff members for their excellent contributions to the school and, of course, our warmest wishes go with them. We also thank Ms Gayle Cann and Mr Brian Hyke for the excellent job done in the leadership positions temporarily created by Ms Hudson’s relocation to Anula Primary School.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION: Our Years 6 students enjoyed a lively graduation ceremony, dinner and dance this week in the magnificently decorated school hall. Each student was presented by their teacher with their graduation certificate, a group photograph, some school memorabilia and a DVD featuring images of each of the students and their concert performance. Our school community congratulates these very energetic and fun-loving students and wishes them the very best in their new life in Middle schools. The Graduating students are listed below.

HELPING TO MAKE CHRISTMAS BETTER FOR OTHERS: St Vinnie’s Appeal: Thank you for the very generous donations to this annual appeal – many boxes of food and other items have been collected by Vinnies and all items will help make Christmas brighter for the less fortunate in our community. Christmas with Friends Concert: Another marvellous occasion! We were privileged to watch students giving their all in their concert items and having fun doing so before a happy and appreciative audience. The energy and commitment of the students in preparing and presenting their items was quite inspiring. A number of classes also conducted stalls and a total of just under $170 was raised and is used to support programs for homeless children in Thailand. The place getters are listed below.

FAREWELL, THANK YOU AND EVERY BEST WISH: It is with a very heavy heart indeed that, next week, I complete my time as Principal of this fine school. I will be on leave for most of 2011 and will retire from the NT Department of Education and Training at the end of that leave, having been associated with the Department since my teenage years. For my family’s sake, we know that the time is now right. I am very proud of Parap Primary School and its well-earned reputation over many years as a good place for children to learn and grow. There have certainly been many wonderful times and many challenging times over the last 13 years and I have been greatly honoured to be the Principal of the school. I ask that you welcome and support our new Principal, Ms Aderynne Chatterton, and do all that you can to help her settle in. I have every confidence that she will bring new ideas and fresh approaches and will ensure that the school continues to flourish. Thank you for your friendship and support over the years and for your enthusiastic interest in the school. I wish you every happiness and success in the future and look forward to hearing of the life journeys of our students over the coming years. Take care and God bless.

Our school wishes you the most joyous Christmas and a bright and happy New Year!!

Dr Michael B. (Mick) Myers Principal
