The GV Convergent IP/SDI router control and con- figuration system from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, transparently manages facility routing as the industry migrates from SDI to IP infrastructures, maintaining familiar control interfaces as well as introducing intu- itive new GUIs for configuration, management and control. GV Convergent is both infrastructure and signal format agnostic for easy system scalability for your system today and far into the future. The GV Convergent control system is an intuitive, graphically-oriented control system, designed to work transparently across SDI and IP workflows, including commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) IP switches. GV Convergent offers control of hybrid IP/ baseband routing environments, spanning baseband routers and COTS IP switches. GV Convergent makes an IP infrastructure perform similar to an SDI router with respect to setting cros- spoints and managing signal bandwidth allocation at the edge of the network, thereby assisting integration of an IP infrastructure into a familiar SDI workflow. GV Convergent will make routing IP video and audio appear the same as routing SDI to an operator. In essence, it allows an SDI/IP switching infrastructure to look like a single homogeneous switching system. Applications

Making the transition toward IP infrastructure

As facilities migrate towards a complete IP infrastructure, the control sys-tem needs to seamlessly across an SDI/IP infrastructure without adding complexity to the operations workflow. GV Convergent controls SDI rout-ers and IP infrastructure in parallel by leveraging both common SDI router control protocols and open protocols for the control of IP infrastructure and flows.

GV Convergent’s topology-aware capabilities provides for an extremely flexible system, which can handle IP to IP, SDI to SDI, SDI to IP or IP to SDI transparently. For example, you can select sources upstream to an IP switch all the way to its baseband destinations using the same familiar baseband routing workflow.

With new facilities being built with large portions of IP infrastructure, GV Convergent provisions all video and audio, thus guaranteeing integral reach of a source to a destination without loss of packets.

GV Convergent is based on open protocols, standards and platforms, encouraging interoperability, and has been designed to be infrastructure agnostic, working with commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) IP switches as well as SDI routers from Grass Valley and other manufacturers. The system works with a wide variety of hardware and software panels, commonly used today, as well as platform agnostic GUI interfaces. Switching is controlled either by soft-ware defined networking (SDN) or via IP endpoint control.
