Database evidenceBy Ana Figueiredo

Field name: Food itemData Type: textField Size: 25

ExplanationI have used text because for this specific field the answer will always be a written answer. I chose field size 25 because I don’t think that there is a food item that has a name longer then 25 characters.

Field name: groupData Type: textField Size: 2

ExplanationI have used the field size as two as I have done a validation rule and a drop down box which only allows two letters. I have used the data type as text because the answer will be in letter format.

Field name: unitData Type: textField Size: 10

ExplanationI have used text for the data type because all units are in letter form and the field size is 10 because there it no unit larger then 10 characters long. I was going to make unit a drop down box however there are so many units that you wouldn’t be able to include them all.

Field name: QuantityData Type: NumberField Size: Integer

ExplanationI have used number because a unit is a number to make one portion of the food item. I have used integer as I need a whole number.

Field name: carbohydratesData Type: NumberField Size: double

ExplanationI have used number because carbohydrates are written in number form. I have used double as my field size as ?

Field name: FibreData Type: NumberField Size: long integer

ExplanationI have used number because fibre is always shown through a number form. I have used long integer as I need a whole number.

Field name: fatData Type: NumberField Size: double

ExplanationI have used number because amount of fat is shown in number form. I have used double as my field size because there may be a decimal.

Field name: CaloriesData Type: NumberField Size: long Integer

ExplanationI have used number because calories are shown in number form. I have used long integer as my field size as calories are usually large/long numbers.

After all of database was ready I went to import text file and imported the text file and selected ‘append a copy of the records to the table eat well’ and then clicked finish.

The final outcome

Queries

In my query I had picked the fields, group and calories to find out what type of meats are healthy. I picked to look at the group meat because the results from my survey suggested that most young people have a preferred food type of meat. I made the amount of calories <100 because the following link suggests that men and women need 2000-2500 calories a day. With less than 100 calories the people will be able to eat a balanced diet. http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/pages/understanding-calories.aspx

Food preference

Food preference for dessert items

For this query I was trying to discover what would be needed for a healthy dessert and I believe that fruits are very healthy therefore I have put that as one of the requirements. To shortlist my results I made sure that5 the fruits that I had picked were less than 36 calories. As too many calories may lead to heart problems.

I made the amount of calories <36 because the following link suggests that men and women need 2000-2500 calories a day. With less than 36 the people will be able to eat a balanced diet. http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/pages/understanding-calories.aspx

Main mealFrom my surveys I came to find that fish was the least preferred food group therefore I have decided to create a main meal based on fish.

To shortlist my query I then made sure that the fish had less than 3 grams of fat. I come to find that in my research that too much fat is bad for you however a suitable amount such as 3 would be a healthy amount. Fish is very good for the brain as it contains a lot of omega 3.

http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/goodfood/pages/fat.aspx I made the amount of fat <3 due to the fact that the above website suggests that low fat food must be below 3g of fat per 100g. To much fat may lead to serious health problems in the future (heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes).

Reports

1. Whilst I was on my query I clicked on the tab create-> then create report.

2. Once I had clicked create report a report appeared however it wasn’t created with my theme therefore I edited it so that it would go well with all my other pieces of work.

3. After that was completed I saved it.4. I repeated these steps for my other 2 queries.

Developments to reports

My test buddy said that I needed to improve the whole aspect of my reports therefore I have aligned the colours on my screen as they overstretched into another page.

Changed the colour of the background and changed the title and improved alignment.

I have been told to add an introduction to each of my reports therefore I have done therefore the next three slides will be of my improved reports.

Testing the database

I made sure that the data validation worked by typing in an unknown content into one of the columns. Due to this testing I know that the data validation is working as the following box appeared
